Scotland Food and Drink selected my experience as one of the best fifty Food and Drink Experiences in 2025, and I am delighted because it is important for guests visiting the Highlands to eat the best of what the region has to offer, incorporated into traditional recipes, and I can guarantee a thoroughly Highland experience. The Cleikum Social Eating Club has been modelled on the Cleikum referred to in Sir Walter Scott’s “St. Ronan’s Well”, and who did more than the latter to introduce the Highlands for romantic destination travel? I was born and brought up in Inverness, and am enthusiastic about the visiting potential of this area, and know it well. I was a hostess/guide in the observation car of the Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh during the summer season when I was at University. I provided a running commentary during the journey, and helped travellers with suggestions on where to eat on arrival, what they should see in the area, and information on the Isle of Skye.

Exceptional Experience
I was welcomed into Karen’s lovely home. I had booked the lunch experience and it ended up being just me. Was by far my best travel experience ever! Karen’s love for architecture was an interest we were able to share/connect over as I work in design and construction. She set a beautiful table and the food was outstanding, I asked and cooked the kale and oatmeal soup recipe at home - was delicious. It doesn’t get more authentic and I highly encourage others to book this wonderful and tasty time!

Just excellent
We had a lovely time visiting Karen at her beautiful home. After running the Loch Ness Marathon (and spectating in the gloom!) this nourishing, hearty meal was just what we needed. It was so special to see local flavors come to life—I keep trying to single out one dish that really stood out, but I fear that’s a fool’s mission. The smoked fish, the roasted carrots and pheasant with blackberries, the mushrooms, the apple crumble custard… all standout!! We loved hearing Karen’s stories and laughing together. I can’t recommend this experience with greater enthusiasm. Many thanks to Karen for opening her home to us!

Amazing experience, fabulous food!
Absolutely wonderful experience! The food was delicious and the company was amazing. Karen is a wonderful hostess, helping us feel so welcome in her home. The meal included many foraged and local ingredients to create a unique experience I'll remember forever.
Response from the operator: Good morning Hebe, Thank you very much for your lovely review. My friends and I enjoyed the great company and conversation with you. I am particularly pleased that you have gone home with happy memories of Highland hospitality. All the best! Karen

Karen rocks it!
Karen. was a joy of a host and her food was plentiful and uniquely good. She is very facile with Scottish and Italy/French cuisines and went out of her way to pair the elements. MAKE SURE to take the wine pairings as well. Very fair value. Very cozy setting. Loved out time there!!
Response from the operator: Hi Greg, Great review. Thank you very much. Heading back to Italy soon, through France and Spain. So useful for the wine pairings and having some fun. Take care and all the best! Karen

Overpriced and Misleading — Would Not Recommend
We booked this experience based on glowing reviews that described an evening of being “wined and dined” with “slow food, Highland dining, and storytelling.” Unfortunately, the reality fell far short of that promise. The “storytelling” was mostly our host sharing personal anecdotes about living abroad and why she prefers Italy over Scotland, instead of sharing local history, culture, or Scottish traditions as we expected. For £385 (about $525 USD) for four people, the meal was incredibly basic — just soup, meat, potatoes, and a simple dessert — with only water offered. Before we arrived, our host offered us a whiskey flight by email. We agreed, thinking it would be a nice addition to the dinner, but it turned out to be tiny sips (less than an ounce each). After the meal, we were unexpectedly charged an extra £105 (about $143 USD) for what was barely a tasting. Directions to the house were also unclear, which made getting there stressful. The evening felt rushed too — we were told to have a taxi booked for 8:30 p.m. so our host could prepare for other guests, which made it feel like we were on a strict schedule rather than enjoying a relaxed meal. This was the most expensive dinner of our trip — and by far the simplest and most disappointing. Overall, we felt the experience was misrepresented, overpriced, and did not deliver what was advertised. I would not recommend this experience to anyone.
Response from the operator: This is a vicious and cruel review, and I am going to do nothing more than acknowledge it because the guest appears to have problems understanding written English. Consequently, it would be a complete waste of my time replying to the points raised above.

Slow Food Highland Dining and Storytelling in Inverness: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Inverness.
How much does Slow Food Highland Dining and Storytelling in Inverness cost?
+
Prices start at $123 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Inverness usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Slow Food Highland Dining and Storytelling in Inverness take?
+
Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Inverness is not rushed.
Is Slow Food Highland Dining and Storytelling in Inverness worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 64 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.5/5 across 26 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Inverness, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Slow Food Highland Dining and Storytelling in Inverness?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Slow Food Highland Dining and Storytelling in Inverness suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Slow Food Highland Dining and Storytelling in Inverness?
+
Around 9 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Inverness can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Inverness and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Slow Food Highland Dining and Storytelling in Inverness start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Inverness within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Inverness?
+
On Outty we rank every Inverness experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include The Ultimate Isle of Skye Day Tour from Inverness, Isle of Skye and Eilean Donan Castle Day Tour from Inverness, Loch Ness, Outlander & Urquhart Castle from Inverness. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Inverness?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Inverness?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
