What you'll see and do
La Fortuna de San Carlos
The sloth is one of the most emblematic animals of Costa Rican fauna. These small and friendly creatures are sweet and beautiful, and always appear happy, with an eternal smile painted on their faces. We would love for you to join us for a short hike through the secondary rainforest to try to locate them. This trail is only 2 km. (1.25 miles) and is designed with the entire family in mind. It is very common to spot these small mammals hiding among the vegetation. But our expert guides know all their secrets and tricks! We will also learn interesting facts about some of the fabulous plants we spot along the way. Due to its location and type of flora, this trail is also heavily populated with birds. To complement a morning or afternoon full of wildlife, we will be able to appreciate many species of birds in the area. Recommended only for sloth and bird lovers! Bring your camera charged and ready to go.

Knowledgeable and Professional!
An incredible private tour where we saw several sloths, lizards, birds, and frogs in such a short period of time while on the walk. Our guide was knowledgeable, professional, on time. Would highly recommend this tour company to anyone, especially with a family. They were thoughtful with snacks and water- such an incredible experience!

Sloths & hanging bridges with Jhersson
We had an incredible experience with Jacamar Naturalist Tours! Our guide, Jhersson, went above and beyond to make the tour both educational and exciting. His knowledge of Costa Rica’s wildlife was impressive, and he had an amazing eye for spotting animals we never would have seen on our own, including sloths, colorful birds, frogs, and other wildlife. The suspension bridges offered beautiful views of the rainforest, and Jhersson made the entire experience engaging by sharing fascinating facts about the plants, animals, and ecosystem. You can tell he is passionate about what he does, and it made the tour unforgettable. If you’re visiting Costa Rica and want to experience its incredible wildlife with a knowledgeable guide, I highly recommend Jacamar Naturalist Tours. This was one of the highlights of our trip!

His passion for Costa Rica’s wildlife and ecosystems is something he truly enjoys sharing, and we're glad that came through during your tour. It's great to know you were able to see so many amazing animals, including sloths, colorful birds, and frogs. We also appreciate your kind words about the suspension bridges and the way the experience was presented in an engaging and educational way. Creating meaningful connections with nature is exactly what we aim for. Thank you for your recommendation and for choosing Jacamar Naturalist Tours. Great tour
We had a nice hike through the rainforest. Our tour guide “Jay” was excellent and very knowledgeable. He pointed out sloths, birds and frogs. It had rained all morning so the sloths were curled up in the trees. It was a nice relaxing tour. Make sure to spray for bugs ahead of time.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your kind review! We’re very happy to hear you enjoyed your rainforest walk and had a relaxing experience with us. Even on rainy mornings, the forest has its own special charm and as you noticed, sometimes the sloths prefer to stay cozy and curled up in the trees We’re especially glad to hear that Jay made your tour memorable. Our guides are passionate about nature, and it’s wonderful to know his knowledge helped you spot sloths, birds, and frogs along the way. And yes great tip about the bug spray! The rainforest is full of life, and being prepared helps make the experience even more comfortable. Thank you again for joining us. We hope to welcome you back for another adventure in the future!

Highly recommend
David was so informative and knowledgeable! We did see the sloths right away and we saw 2 more. Both 2 toed and 3 toed. Birds, frogs, etc. My husband and I were very satisfied- the only problem was that the time of the meeting was completely wrong. Thankfully we were only ones on the group tour so it was not an issue. My meeting time was an hour later than his. But aside from that - all went well.

Wonderful experience
Jose is a very talented and knowledgeable guide. He made this tour everything we wanted. This slower paced walk through the rainforest was wonderful for my husband who has a mobility issue.

Slothies and Birds Sightseeing: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for La Fortuna.
How much does Slothies and Birds Sightseeing cost?
+
Prices start at $62 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in La Fortuna usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Slothies and Birds Sightseeing take?
+
Plan for about 1 hour from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in La Fortuna is not rushed.
Is Slothies and Birds Sightseeing worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 64 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 47 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in La Fortuna, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Slothies and Birds Sightseeing?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Slothies and Birds Sightseeing suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 5. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 1-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book Slothies and Birds Sightseeing?
+
Around 16 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in La Fortuna can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in La Fortuna and add a light layer if any part of the 1-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Slothies and Birds Sightseeing start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central La Fortuna within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in La Fortuna?
+
On Outty we rank every La Fortuna experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Upper Balsa River White Water Rafting Class 3/4 in Costa Rica, North Fields Cafe: Craft Specialty Coffee and Chocolate Tour, Canyoning Adventure Rappelling Waterfalls in Arenal Volcano. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit La Fortuna?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in La Fortuna?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
