Fantastic and Memorable Skippers Canyon Half-day Tour
Del was an excellent and humourous driver and told us a lot about goldmining in Skippers Canyon as well as the film locations for LOTR and Mission Impossible. His local knowledge of the best stops for photographs was much appreciated. His Discovery vehicle was very clean and comfortable and we had no issues with its colour. We would highly recommend the half-day Skippers Canyon tour and would have done the full-day tour had we not had to get our son to the airport to catch his afternoon flight.

Skipper Canyon Tour: Holiday Highlight
We had a fantastic afternoon with Del taking us in his 4WD to Skippers Canyon. He is knowledgeable and very easy company. We felt very safe on the drive and were able to relax and enjoy the beautiful surrounds. Definitely coming back to do a full day trip with him next year. We had our disabled daughter with us who loved the experience.

Great tour
Fantastic bespoke 4WD tour. We had a 3 day tour with Del. Travelled with my Father and his good mate both in their late 70s. Del really went out of his way to taylor the tour to our needs. We all had a great time. This part of NZ is really beautiful and interesting. Lots of little surprises along the way. Brought back a lot of memories for my dad and our friend who both grew up in this area. Del has been doing this for a long time, we always felt looked after and safe. Thanks Del

Perfect experience!
We went on the half-day Skippers tour, and it was amazing. The weather was clear and the mountains had snowy peaks - picture perfect! Del was the perfect guide. He knows all the stories and the history of the canyon and the general area. It’s easy to tell that Del has been doing this for years. He knows his way around and he is an excellent driver. We had the best time! I usually don’t put reviews on TripAdvisor, but 4WD Expeditions really deserves the warmest recommendation.

A must see for Queenstown visitors!
As this would be our final day in New Zealand, we wanted a day out to remember. 4WD Expeditions delivered just that! We were picked up from our accommodation in a fantastic comfortable 4x4 and driven by an experienced, confident, friendly driver out to see some of the most beautiful, breathtaking scenery we have seen in New Zealand. Our brilliant driver Del was knowledgable, funny and entertaining through the whole trip. Tea and cake was included in one of the best picnic spots imaginable, and a beautiful Lord of the Rings location visit was the cherry on the delicious cake. This trip is a definite must for anyone visiting Queenstown, offering something for everyone- exciting 4x4ing on cliffside roads, beautiful scenery and views and a chance to chat and laugh with a friendly New Zealander!

Why this scores 66
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Skippers Canyon PRIVATE Half Day Photography Tour, Queenstown NZ: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Queenstown.
How much does Skippers Canyon PRIVATE Half Day Photography Tour, Queenstown NZ cost?
+
Prices start at $150 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Queenstown usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Skippers Canyon PRIVATE Half Day Photography Tour, Queenstown NZ take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Queenstown is not rushed.
Is Skippers Canyon PRIVATE Half Day Photography Tour, Queenstown NZ worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 66 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Queenstown, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Skippers Canyon PRIVATE Half Day Photography Tour, Queenstown NZ?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Skippers Canyon PRIVATE Half Day Photography Tour, Queenstown NZ suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 1. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 4-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book Skippers Canyon PRIVATE Half Day Photography Tour, Queenstown NZ?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Queenstown can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Queenstown and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Skippers Canyon PRIVATE Half Day Photography Tour, Queenstown NZ start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Queenstown within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Queenstown?
+
On Outty we rank every Queenstown experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Premium Milford Sound Small Group Tour & Cruise from Queenstown, Milford Sound Premium Small Group Tour & Cruise from Queenstown, Award Winning Premium Wine Tour Queenstown Tasting at 4 Wineries. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Queenstown?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Queenstown?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
