    2. Vatican City

We continue our visit entering Vatican City, the smallest country in the world. Encircled by a 2-mile border with Italy, Vatican City is an independent city-state that covers just over 100 acres, making it one-eighth the size of New York’s Central Park. Vatican City is governed as an absolute monarchy with the pope at its head. The Vatican mints its own euros, prints its own stamps, issues passports, licenses plates operates media outlets and has its own flag and anthem. One government function it lacks: taxation. Museum admission fees, stamp and souvenir sales, and contributions generate the Vatican’s revenue.

    3. Vatican Museums

The Vatican Museums feature many works of art that belonged to the different Popes and are full of artistic beauty. Here is a glimpse of some of the most beautiful things to see in the Vatican Museums. Rooms and Galleries of the Vatican Museums, as the Greek Cross Room, the Gallery of Maps, the Gallery of Tapestries, and much more! These collections have been piled up over the course of centuries through acquisitions, donations, commissions, confiscations, and quite often lucky discoveries from underground Rome and not only.

    4. Sistine Chapel

Admire the breathtaking Sistine Chapel of Michelangelo! The most famous section of the Sistine Chapel ceiling is Michelangelo’s Creation of Adam. This scene is located next to the Creation of Eve, which is the panel at the center of the room, and the Congregation of the Waters, which is closer to the altar. Not everything was done by Michelangelo and your expert guide will be able to point that out. This proves just how great artists, even little known, left their marks in these magic locations. This is the right time to discover that!

20 minutes here · Admission included

    5. St. Peter's Basilica

If you thought the size of the Vatican Museums was overwhelmingly spectacular, St. Peter’s Basilica takes the “wow factor” to another level. The sheer capacity of the interiors is enough to leave any visitor searching for words to describe its vastness. At 613 feet long, 85 feet wide and 147 feet high, it took an incredible 120 years to build, starting from 1506. Admire Michelangelo’s unparalleled Pietà masterpiece and stroll towards the center-right nave to observe Bernini’s 30-foot high bronze Baldachin, which sits directly atop the site of St. Peter’s tomb.

    6. St. Peter's Square

A visit to Vatican City would not be complete without standing in awe of the beauty in St. Peter’s Square, also known as Piazza San Pietro. This massive square, which frames St. Peter’s Basilica, is where the pope holds Wednesday General Audiences and special masses on religious holidays.

    Jennifer_B · October 2026

    An interesting and historical tour.

Very historical and interesting. Don’t go in Summer as the heat is unbearable. Do a skip the line tour as the crowds are difficult.

Response from the operator: Dear Jennifer_B, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience! We’re delighted to hear that you found the tour so interesting and enjoyed learning about its incredible history! We completely understand your advice about visiting in summer; the Roman heat and crowds can certainly be a challenge! That’s why a skip-the-line tour can make such a difference, allowing you to spend more time enjoying the amazing art, history, and architecture rather than waiting in the heat. Thank you for choosing What a Life Tours and for sharing your helpful tips with fellow travellers. We hope to welcome you back to Rome one day, perhaps during a cooler season! Until next time, wishing you all the best and safe travels ahead! Kind regards, What a Life Tours Team

    Wonderful tour!

Just long enough and just private enough, with a knowledgeable guide. This was a "bucket list" experience, for sure! Definitely worth the price and the time! :)

Response from the operator: Dear Tahne_L, Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful feedback! We’re thrilled to hear the experience was the right length and offered the perfect balance of privacy, with a knowledgeable guide bringing everything to life. We always prioritise small groups, as we believe it offers a more personable experience where guests get to interact with their guides more and, additionally, creates a more personal experience. We're happy this was evident! We’re especially delighted that this was a “bucket list” experience for you and that you felt it was absolutely worth the time and investment! It was a pleasure to be part of such a special experience, and we truly appreciate you choosing What a Life Tours to help you tick another item off your list! Thank you again, and we hope to welcome you back to Rome for another unforgettable experience! Until next time! Kind regards, What a Life Tours Team

The ONLY way to visit the...

The ONLY way to visit the Vatican and Saint Peter’s Basilica; working your own way through the massive crowds is far from optimal!

Response from the operator: Dear Andrew_T, Thank you for choosing to book your Vatican experience with us and for taking the time to share your feedback! We’re delighted to hear that you feel this is the best way to visit the Vatican, and we couldn’t agree more! With the sheer number of galleries and collections to explore, the Vatican can certainly feel overwhelming and, at times, like a labyrinth to navigate. That’s why having an expert guide by your side can make such a difference, allowing you to seamlessly navigate the sites and crowds without taking away from the overall experience. We’re so glad you recognized the added value of our guided small-group tour and appreciated having your guide lead the way! Thank you again for choosing What a Life Tours. We truly appreciate your support and wish you safe and happy travels ahead. Until next time Kind regards, What a Life Tours Team

Skip-the-Line Vatican, Sistine Chapel & St. Peter's | Small Group: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Rome.

How much does Skip-the-Line Vatican, Sistine Chapel & St. Peter's | Small Group cost?

    +

Prices start at €94 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Rome usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Skip-the-Line Vatican, Sistine Chapel & St. Peter's | Small Group take?

    +

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Rome is not rushed.

Is Skip-the-Line Vatican, Sistine Chapel & St. Peter's | Small Group worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 91 out of 100, which we label "90+ Club". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 8,408 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Rome, and how flexible the cancellation terms are. Scoring 90 or above puts it in the Outty 90+ Club, the top tier of everything we rank.

Can I cancel or reschedule Skip-the-Line Vatican, Sistine Chapel & St. Peter's | Small Group?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Skip-the-Line Vatican, Sistine Chapel & St. Peter's | Small Group suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Skip-the-Line Vatican, Sistine Chapel & St. Peter's | Small Group?

    +

Around 2,943 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Rome can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Rome and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Skip-the-Line Vatican, Sistine Chapel & St. Peter's | Small Group start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Rome within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Rome?

    +

Rome runs on skip-the-line access. The Colosseum underground, the Vatican before opening, and the catacombs south of the walls all require a licensed operator, and the price gap between the good ones and the rest is smaller than you would expect. We rank by guide credentials, group size and how reliably the promised access actually materialises. On Outty we rank every Rome experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Rome Pizza & Gelato Class with Wine by Cooking Italy, Rome [4in1] Pasta Making_Tiramisù_Wine Tasting_Secret Cellar, Rome Pasta and Tiramisu Class: Ravioli, Fettuccine & Fine Wine 5*. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Rome?

    +

April, May, September and October. August is hot and half the city is shut. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Rome?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
