About this experience
The Quintessence of Tonkin is located away from the hustle and bustle of central Hanoi in the Quoc Oai district, just over 20 kilometers west of the city. In the tranquil countryside, with the Thay Mountain as the backdrop, the spectacle draws inspiration from the Thay Pagoda in nearby Sai Son village — one of the oldest Buddhist temples in Vietnam — and which you are encouraged to visit. The stage is large enough to accommodate all 250 performers at once and is permanently submerged under 10 centimeters of water. This allows for unique theatrical displays and provides an unusual canvas for Vietnam’s more striking cultural treasures, such as water puppetry and dragon boat racing, to be creatively portrayed. Tonkin Show is a long story that tells about the length of Vietnam's history, gets through the history mark, and shows Vietnam's old life, Vietnam art, and Vietnamese festival and religious life.

Quintessence of Tonkin Show
This was a great experience. Great props, lights, costumes and effects. It was based on water which was really effective. For most of the show they had English translation. We felt the show ended abruptly and the last part of the show didn’t have English translation. Would recommend paying for gold section seating so you have a seat with a back for the show. It is also a fair drive out of the old quarter. They do offer a bus and show ticket option.
Response from the operator: Thank you for your thoughtful feedback! We're so glad to hear you enjoyed the overall experience — from the props and lighting to the water-based effects. Your note about the English translation and the ending is much appreciated and will be shared with the team. We also agree that the Gold Section seats add extra comfort, and we're happy the transport option was helpful. Thank you again for your recommendation!

Amazingly Beautiful
It was the most incredible show I have ever watched. I would climb on a plane just to go and watch this show. We weren't allowed to use our phones for videos or pictures but it ended up forcing you to stay in the present and also you then didn't have all these shining phone screens in front of you ruining the experience.
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for sharing your experience! We're truly honored that the show left such a lasting impression on you. It's wonderful to hear that the phone-free policy helped create a more immersive and meaningful atmosphere — being fully present really does make all the difference. We’d be thrilled to welcome you back anytime, even if it means hopping on a plane again!

Beautiful show
Beautiful evening show, lovely show to enjoy whilst on your trip, transport to and from the show was good, extra time before the show to enjoy local food and music at the venue
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your kind words! We're so glad to hear that you enjoyed the evening show and had a great time experiencing the local food and music beforehand. We're also happy to know that the transportation worked well for you. We hope this added a special touch to your trip!

Amazing show, horrific tour operator.
The show is beautiful. Highly recommend. Everything else was so bad. The doors don't open until 19:15. It's a very accessible location, it makes more sense to just get a taxi directly there and arrive on time to avoid waiting around in the heat and mosquitoes. You can also purchase the tickets elsewhere at a fraction of the cost. We took the bus, communication surrounding it was horrendous. What should have been a pleasant 1.5-2hrs was a frustrating 4.5hrs There was some basic food available, but it was average. Address is Tinh Hoa Bắc Bộ, Đình làng Đa Phúc, Baara Land, Quốc Oai, Hà Nội 100000
Response from the operator: Dear Mr, I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to extend my sincere apologies for the inconvenience you experienced during your recent trip. Regarding the timing issues: - Show Timing: The doors for the show open from 7:00 to 7:15. Prior to the show, there is a local market you can enjoy, accompanied by traditional music. Unfortunately, the showtimes are fixed, and we regret any inconvenience this may have caused. - Bus Delay: I typically inform clients 30 minutes in advance to ensure they do not miss the public bus. Unfortunately, due to an unexpected traffic jam, the bus was delayed, causing discomfort. As soon as you contacted me, I immediately called to extend my apologies. We deeply regret any distress these incidents may have caused you. Receiving a 1-star review is something we take very seriously, and we are genuinely sorry for not meeting your expectations. Please accept our sincere apologies once again. We value your feedback and will use this experience to improve our services. Thank you for your understanding. Best regards,

Why this scores 40
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Skip the Line: The Quintessence of Tonkin Ticket (Wed, Sat, Sun): questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Hanoi.
How much does Skip the Line: The Quintessence of Tonkin Ticket (Wed, Sat, Sun) cost?
+
Prices start at $18 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Hanoi usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Skip the Line: The Quintessence of Tonkin Ticket (Wed, Sat, Sun) take?
+
Plan for about 1 hour from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Hanoi is not rushed.
Is Skip the Line: The Quintessence of Tonkin Ticket (Wed, Sat, Sun) worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 40 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.9/5 across 7 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable culture & history in Hanoi, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Skip the Line: The Quintessence of Tonkin Ticket (Wed, Sat, Sun)?
+
No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.
Is Skip the Line: The Quintessence of Tonkin Ticket (Wed, Sat, Sun) suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Skip the Line: The Quintessence of Tonkin Ticket (Wed, Sat, Sun)?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Hanoi can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Hanoi and add a light layer if any part of the 1-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Skip the Line: The Quintessence of Tonkin Ticket (Wed, Sat, Sun) start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Hanoi within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Hanoi?
+
On Outty we rank every Hanoi experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Ninh Binh Day Trip from Hanoi with Tam Coc or Trang An & Mua Cave, Ha Giang Loop Tour 4 Days 3 Nights with Ha Giang Vision Tour, Halong Bay Day Tour With Titop Island, Cave, Kayak & Lunch. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Hanoi?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Hanoi?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
