After another hour of driving through the beautiful Upper Bavarian landscape, we approach the Alps and can see the towers of Neuschwanstein at an altitude of around 1000m. 5. Schloss Neuschwanstein

Neuschwanstein Castle remained unfinished due to the early and mysterious death of its builder, King Ludwig II of Bavaria, and is certainly one of the most visited sights in Germany for this reason. Because of the Corona crisis, tours of the castle have been reduced from 58 to 35 people, and therefore demand far exceeds supply. However, as a participant in our excursion, you will always receive tickets for the castle tour without any waiting times! Your tour guide will also ensure that you are at the castle in time for the start of the tour.

  6. THE top viewpoint of Neuschwanstein Castle - and one of the most famous in the world! The steel Marienbrücke bridge was built in 1866 under Ludwig II - three years before Neuschwanstein Castle began construction. In snow and ice, both the Marienbrücke bridge and the shuttle bus service are closed there.

As the favourite seat of the Habsburg Emperor Maximilian I, Füssen experienced its first heyday at the beginning of the 16th century; the "Hohe Burg" - one of Bavaria's best-preserved medieval castles - was decorated with unusually rich architectural and illusion paintings as early as 1499. Take a stroll through narrow streets and be enchanted by the well-preserved city walls, crooked houses and the Italian-looking former monastery complex with its magnificent Baroque church. Enjoy a refreshment in one of the numerous outdoor cafes or the numerous shopping opportunities.

  • Specialized infant seats are available
  • Not recommended for travelers with poor cardiovascular health
  • Suitable for all physical fitness levels
  • Can you walk the slightly uphill asphalt path from the car park to Neuschwanstein Castle - approx. 1.5 km within an hour? If not, an additional (waiting) time requirement for the horse-drawn hybrid carriage or the shuttle bus must be taken into account. In any case, you still have to walk about 450 meters (with a gradient of up to 15%) or around 500m (with a gradient of up to 19%) from the respective final stop to the castle entrance. The shuttle bus does not run during snow and ice. We would be happy to accompany you so that you can reach your tour on time.
  • There are a total of 346 stairs (up and down) to climb in Neuschwanstein Castle. If this is too much for you, and if you have a corresponding medical certificate stating that you are unable to walk or have limited mobility, etc. (must be scanned and sent to us in advance), we can arrange an exclusive lift service just for you with a maximum of one companion, accompanied by Castle staff, book. The elevator service is at no additional cost, but (due to fire regulations) the number of tours with this service is very limited and must be reconfirmed by the castle authorities.
  • Neuschwanstein Castle can also be reached with strollers, but neither they nor other larger items of luggage (e.g. baby carriages, larger backpacks) are allowed during the castle tour.
  • If you plan to spend a longer period of time outdoors on the Zugspitze, please remember to wear suitable clothing (temperature differences of 20°C/68°F between mountain and valley are not uncommon!). For those who would like to try out the sleds, we recommend a change of clothing. Please also remember sunglasses and sun cream!

A wonderful experience

My husband, adult daughter and I had a fantastic full day experience. Communication ahead of time from Stefan was efficient. Our driver, Karl, was terrific. He showed up at our hotel in Munich promptly at the scheduled time. Our itinerary was flexible with ample time in both Zugspitz and the Neuschwanstein Castle and we were able to add a lunch stop at the adorable town of Füssen and a final stop at Oberammergau to to see wood carvings and an ice cream stop (best gelato we’ve had!). Karl provided great insight into the area and gave us key pointers to help us in accessing and enjoying our tours. Thank you for the best experience. We highly recommend !

Skip the Line NEUSCHWANSTEIN and Mt. Zugspitze Private Deluxe Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Munich.

How much does Skip the Line NEUSCHWANSTEIN and Mt. Zugspitze Private Deluxe Tour cost?

+

Prices start at $288 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Munich usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Skip the Line NEUSCHWANSTEIN and Mt. Zugspitze Private Deluxe Tour take?

+

Plan for about 9.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Munich is not rushed.

Is Skip the Line NEUSCHWANSTEIN and Mt. Zugspitze Private Deluxe Tour worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 60 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 2 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Munich, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Skip the Line NEUSCHWANSTEIN and Mt. Zugspitze Private Deluxe Tour?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Skip the Line NEUSCHWANSTEIN and Mt. Zugspitze Private Deluxe Tour suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 1. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 9.5-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Skip the Line NEUSCHWANSTEIN and Mt. Zugspitze Private Deluxe Tour?

+

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Munich can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Munich and add a light layer if any part of the 9.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Skip the Line NEUSCHWANSTEIN and Mt. Zugspitze Private Deluxe Tour start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Munich within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Munich?

+

On Outty we rank every Munich experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Guided Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site Tour with Train from Munich, Munich Classic Bike Tour @ 11.30am with Surfers & beergarden stop, Dachau Memorial Half-Day Tour from Munich (Early-Start). The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Munich?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Munich?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
