    This was an incredible...

This was an incredible experience! Everyone was great from the minute we were picked up at the port. Our shuttle driver gave us an unofficial tour as we drove through Sitka which gave us some cool spots to check out after the boat trip. Captain Cole was awesome. I tend to get a little seasick and he was ready with some ginger chews to help me get through (the water was a little choppy that day). Our group of 4 shared the boat with 2 others (both there solo) and it was nice to talk to them and hear their stories on the way out to see the whales….which we did get to see! This group also owns a little coffee/sandwich shop in town which was nice to go to afterwards to read the chill regroup. Overall, this was a great experience and I highly recommend! Once of the best tours we had on the trip.

Response from the operator: Thank you, Amy! We are thrilled that you chose us to help you get out on the water and experience the beauty of Sitka's Wildlife! We exist because of wonderful people like you!

SPECTACULAR whale watching! Breached right next to us!

The most spectacular ending possible to our 8 day Alaska trip! Captain Cole started us out with close up views of adorable sea lions basking on a buoy, then took us to a rock out at sea surrounded by fluffy sea otters using seaweed as blankets! We then headed out to watch whales, following a pod of humpbacks as they blew spouts over and over, tracking them until they were right next to the boat. Just when we thought it couldn't get any better, a whale LEAPT entirely out of the water 10 feet from our boat, spinning like a ballerina! Our whole family had our jaws on the floor, we couldn't believe it! The whale then went right under our boat and did TWO MORE spin jumps just for us right on the other side. It was like it had been rehearsed, it couldn't have been any more perfect. An epic adventure with a captain who knew exactly how to put us right in the middle of the action! Once in a lifetime!

Response from the operator: WOW Danae!!! You really did get the whole VIP experience!! Sometimes those whales really do act like they know you're watching and put on an amazing show. Captain Cole has a remarkable ability to arrive at the right place at the right time. Thank you so much for choosing us. We know there are many choices, but we are honored that we got to share that once-in-a-lifetime experience with you!

    Whale watching

We saw many gray whale up close. The staff was friendly and accommodating to changes. It would have been nice to see a larger variety of wildlife. As we all know. …. Some critters are hard to control.

Sitka's Ultimate Wildlife Boat Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Sitka.

How much does Sitka's Ultimate Wildlife Boat Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $300 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Sitka usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Sitka's Ultimate Wildlife Boat Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Sitka is not rushed.

Is Sitka's Ultimate Wildlife Boat Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 58 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Sitka, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Sitka's Ultimate Wildlife Boat Tour?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Sitka's Ultimate Wildlife Boat Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Sitka's Ultimate Wildlife Boat Tour?

    +

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Sitka can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Sitka and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Sitka's Ultimate Wildlife Boat Tour start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Sitka within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Sitka?

    +

Sitka runs sea otter and whale quest boats, bear and raptor rescue centre visits, Tongass rainforest hikes, kayak paddles through the islands and Russian colonial history walks. On Outty we rank every Sitka experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include PREMIUM Sitka Scenic Tour, Best of Sitka Land Tour / Bears, Raptors, Totems, Guided Hike | TONGASS NATIONAL FOREST. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Sitka?

    +

May to September. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Sitka?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
