Very poor experience, overpriced transfer to this shooting range

If you're considering this tour, know what you're actually getting. We had a "guide" who had no knowledge of the guns, couldn't answer basic questions, and gave us no historical or cultural commentary. What we paid £190+ for was, in practice, a very long (2+ hours longer than advertised), poorly communicated taxi ride to a shooting range. absolutely not worth the money. Pickup & Transfer
After sharing our pick-up location, we were asked to be picked up a 20-minute walk away from the location we sent through (10-min prior to pick-up). The drive to the range then took 2.5 hours, far beyond the advertised 1 hour. This was particularly annoying as it was my birthday and we ended up spending nearly half a day in a car with zero warning this would happen. Different tour guide:
We booked based on reviews praising the guide’s (Dimitri) knowledge of guns (on GetyourGuide), their history, and Almaty/Kazakhstan more broadly, which is why this is listed as a "tour," not a transfer. In reality, the guide barely spoke to us during the 2.5-hour drive, admitted he "didn't know" anything when asked about the guns, and made minimal effort to translate what range staff were explaining. None of the cultural or historical content other reviewers mentioned was provided. Entry Fee Mark-up
The range confirmed the entry fee was 5,000 tenge (£8). We paid £190+ (for 2 ppl) for the experience, a significant markup on top of what was, at best, an inefficient taxi service. The bullets are not included. The shooting itself was enjoyable and the facility is good. However, given we were told nothing about the guns by the guide, we felt a bit confused by everything. Broken Return Time & No Accountability
We were told via WhatsApp we'd be back by 3pm and planned our day around that. When it became obvious we'd be late, there was no proactive communication or apology, we had to raise it ourselves. We'd already rearranged another appointment to 3:50pm to accommodate the delay, but didn't get back until 5pm, two hours later than promised, making us late even for the rescheduled plan. We were told the extra delay was because "that was good for the driver," again without any prior communication. When flagging we needed to be back fro 3:50PM to Dimity via WhatsApp, our messages were just ignored. Summary
For £190+, we got a mismanaged transfer, a guide with no relevant knowledge, an inflated entry fee, and no communication or accountability when things went wrong. I recommend just reaching out directly to gun ranges around Almaty and booking with them and arranging your own direct transfer.

Amazing time

Dmitriy was an amazing guide for this shooting tour, even though I was the only participant, he didn't cancel it and picked me up from the hostel and dropped me off back. His shooting lessons were very easy to follow and I was able to try out both an AK and mosin nagant and dragunov snipers! Very fun experience for sure and Dmitriy is also a great person to talk to if you want to learn more about history of the region and any other tips. I booked another tour with him also afterward for alma arasan spring and the big Almaty lake tour, and he was helpful with booking it last minute!

Response from the operator: Thank you)

How much does Shooting tour Almaty - AK 47, Mosin, M16, Glock and others cost?

+

Prices start at $130 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Almaty usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

Is Shooting tour Almaty - AK 47, Mosin, M16, Glock and others worth it?

+

How far in advance should I book Shooting tour Almaty - AK 47, Mosin, M16, Glock and others?

+

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Almaty can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Almaty and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Almaty within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Almaty?

+

On Outty we rank every Almaty experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Kolsai, Kaindy Lakes and Charyn Canyon Small Group Tour, Kolsai Kaindy Lakes with Charyn Canyons 2-day tour, Small-Group Tour: Kolsai & Kaindy Lakes with Charyn Canyons. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Almaty?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Almaty?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
