Beware of queues & pushing!
So the organiser was fab, sent the tickets via WhatsApp and have NO complaints about him. We did pick 6:30pm which in hindsight was the worst time 🤣 everyone pushing and shoving to get ‘the shot’ and grown men pushing children out the way. The actual queue system to get back down needs re thinking as China isn’t known for their queue etiquette and it got a tad stressful. Once you’re up and if you manage to ger near the window: the views are stunning! Top tip - go up to the restaurant floor - less crowds!
Response from the operator: Dear Sarah_M, Thank you for your honest and detailed feedback. We are glad that our ticket service worked well for you. We sincerely apologise for the unpleasant crowd‑related experience you encountered at 6:30 pm. Peak visiting hours can indeed be very busy, and long queues when going downstairs may cause stress. We appreciate you sharing your helpful tip about visiting the restaurant floor on F119 to avoid crowds for future visitors. We hope you still enjoyed the stunning sky‑high views of Shanghai. Wish you a pleasant rest of your trip. Best regards,

I usually have a very good experience with Viator, but this time they didn’t send the QR code required for entry, only a barcode that was not accepted by Shanghai Tower.
Response from the operator: Dear Mark_M, We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you encountered during your Shanghai Tower ticket check-in. We issued your official entry QR code and sent the ticket message directly via the Viator platform. The platform will automatically trigger a corresponding notification email to you. We also resent the ticket QR code to your iMessage for your convenience. Upon our follow-up verification, your tickets were successfully scanned and validated for entry at Shanghai Tower in the end. We truly hope you had a wonderful time admiring the stunning panoramic views from the tower, and we appreciate your valuable feedback to help us continuously improve our service. Best regards,

Five stars
The views from the observation deck are incredible. I would recommend both this and the damper show to learn more about the way these buildings are constructed.
Response from the operator: Dear Donald, Thank you very much for your wonderful review! We are so glad to hear that you enjoyed the amazing views from Shanghai Tower and found the damper show interesting and informative. It was a pleasure helping you with your tickets, and we hope you had a fantastic time in Shanghai. We look forward to welcoming you back on your next trip! Warm regards,

Amazing visit to 3rd largest tower!
Great visit! Add the extra Dampener visit! It’s very impressive. Try and get there for before and after sunset then you get day and night … and sunset!
Response from the operator: Dear Lauren_D, Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We're thrilled to hear you had a great visit to the Shanghai Tower. Thanks also for the fantastic tip—adding the Tuned Mass Damper (the "Dampener") is indeed a must-see; it’s truly impressive engineering at its finest! And what a brilliant idea to experience the view both before and after sunset—you get the best of all worlds: daytime clarity, golden-hour magic, and the dazzling city lights at night. We’re so glad we could help make your visit special. Hope to assist you again on your next adventure in Shanghai! Warm regards,

Why this scores 62
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Shanghai Tower/ Top of Shanghai Ticket Booking: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Shanghai.
How much does Shanghai Tower/ Top of Shanghai Ticket Booking cost?
+
Prices start at $23 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Shanghai usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Shanghai Tower/ Top of Shanghai Ticket Booking take?
+
Plan for about 1 hour from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Shanghai is not rushed.
Is Shanghai Tower/ Top of Shanghai Ticket Booking worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 62 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.3/5 across 70 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Shanghai, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Shanghai Tower/ Top of Shanghai Ticket Booking?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Shanghai Tower/ Top of Shanghai Ticket Booking suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 3. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 1-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book Shanghai Tower/ Top of Shanghai Ticket Booking?
+
Around 25 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Shanghai can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Shanghai and add a light layer if any part of the 1-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Shanghai Tower/ Top of Shanghai Ticket Booking start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Shanghai within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Shanghai?
+
On Outty we rank every Shanghai experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Private Shanghai Full Day City Tour with Old and New Highlights, Suzhou Private Day Trip from Shanghai with Bullet Train Option, 4-Hour Flexible Private Shanghai City Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Shanghai?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Shanghai?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
