Tour for 7 people but 16 on the tour

We booked a tour for 7 people, yet were on one for 16!! Tour guide showed up 15mins late, another 5 mins sorting out ear pieces. We were then late for the underground and almost missed our alloted slot. Everything was very rushed at this point, some people with mobility issues left behind. On a positive the tour guide was pretty good and the colloseum is amazing. Someine needs to address many of the issues raised.

Response from the operator: Thank you for your feedback. 🙏 We’re very sorry for the delays, group mix-up, and rushed experience this is not the standard we aim for. Please reach out to us directly so we can investigate and ensure you’re fairly compensated.

Underground tour

I did the colosseum underground and roman forum and the palatine Hill tour. I booked this because the tickets wouldn't have gone on sale till I was already on my holiday and I didn't want to bother trying to get tickets by myself as it sounds difficult and I really wanted to see the underground part. I'm glad I did see it. The only thing I would have liked is more time in the Roman forum and palatine hill area. Would be nice if there was a way to go back in there after leaving it.

Rome Colleseum/Roman Forum

I booked this tour about four month in advance because we only had two days in Rome before a cruise. We were scheduled for the 10;30 tour that would last about 3 hours. The night before I get a text message that they need to move us to 3:00 which really interferred with other plans. I rearranged the other activities so we wouldnt miss it. When I asked to please keep the 10:30 the receptionist was quite short saying its 3:00 or we needed to cancel. The guide was very informative and the Roman Forum and Colleseum were amazing but he didnt have patience for our group. Along with my family members there were probably 17 or more others in the group about 25 all together. He had little patience for any questions and he yelled a few times at the people in our group to keep up and stop asking questions. Everytime he yelled we all heard it on our earphones it was very unprofessional. The Forum was very busy that day and it was hard to keep up because other groups kept walking in front and he didnt wait for everyone to catch up. I loved the history of it all but wish they guide had more patience for the group he was showing around.

Response from the operator: Dear Customer, we are very sorry to hear you didn't have the best time with your guide! We proud ourselves with working with the best guides. We know that in high season it can get a little hot and hectic, but patience with everybody is a must! We will certainly look into this so to get better next time. Thank you for your review!

Colosseum underground tour.

Superb tour. Vasco the guide provided great history of the areas and was friendly with a good amount of humour. He seemed to enjoy his work. The 3 hours of the tour flew by. Thanks, Nigel.

Semi Private Colosseum Underground and Ancient Rome: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Rome.

How much does Semi Private Colosseum Underground and Ancient Rome cost?

+

Prices start at $165 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Rome usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Semi Private Colosseum Underground and Ancient Rome take?

+

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Rome is not rushed.

Is Semi Private Colosseum Underground and Ancient Rome worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 54 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.5/5 across 15 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Rome, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Semi Private Colosseum Underground and Ancient Rome?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 240 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Semi Private Colosseum Underground and Ancient Rome suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Semi Private Colosseum Underground and Ancient Rome?

+

Around 5 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Rome can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Rome and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Semi Private Colosseum Underground and Ancient Rome start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Rome within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Rome?

+

Rome runs on skip-the-line access. The Colosseum underground, the Vatican before opening, and the catacombs south of the walls all require a licensed operator, and the price gap between the good ones and the rest is smaller than you would expect. We rank by guide credentials, group size and how reliably the promised access actually materialises. On Outty we rank every Rome experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Rome: Pizza & Tiramisu or Gelato Class with Flowing Fine Wine 5*, Pasta Making & Wine Tasting with Dinner in Frascati from Rome, Rome Pasta and Tiramisu Class: Ravioli, Fettuccine & Fine Wine 5*. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Rome?

+

April, May, September and October. August is hot and half the city is shut. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Rome?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
