App did not work, had to...
App did not work, had to call customer service. Girl on customer was super helpful and sent me a link. Just unfortunate it didn’t work at the beginning.
Response from the operator: Hi Larisa. Sorry you had trouble getting the app working. We've tried to make it work as easily as possible. Did the link you got from viator customer service work? Feel free to email me any other details.

I could tell the speaker...
I could tell the speaker was from the area but better directions verbally would of helped to find the areas he talked about. had a difficult time finding them on the map.
Response from the operator: Thanks for the feedback! I'm planning a content update this fall and I can add audio directions of where the next stop is.

Affordable and flexible, but use caution in this part of town. Some areas are not safe.
You can read the tour if you don’t have headphones or the city is too late. You can start at any point in the tour and skip any stops you don’t want to visit. I learned this after following the Google navigation to blood alley which was unremarkable except that we found ourselves in a graffiti covered and strangely vacant alley that felt unsafe. (Gastown is located in a bad area of town and it is easy to find yourself on a street filled with people using drugs and living on the street where unstable people walk around yelling obscenities. Wish is known this sooner, but travel bloggers fail to include this tidbit) We were more selective of the places we visited after that. However the narration was interesting and informative and very affordable.

Great to do at your own pace
Really enjoyed this tour. It was great to do at your own pace with coffee stops along the way. I had an issue with the code to access the tour but after an email to Viator it was sorted in minutes. You can read or listen to the the information for each stop.

Flexible and interesting self guided tour
Our booked walking tour with "real" guide didn't work out (guide didn't turn up) so we downloaded this self guided tour. It was really good and a fraction of the cost - though we'd have preferred a person to person tour. However, this was an excellent alternative and in fact we spread it over two half days which in the end suited us

Why this scores 58
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Self-Guided Smartphone Walking Tour of Gastown: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Vancouver.
How much does Self-Guided Smartphone Walking Tour of Gastown cost?
+
Prices start at $10 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Vancouver usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Self-Guided Smartphone Walking Tour of Gastown take?
+
Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Vancouver is not rushed.
Is Self-Guided Smartphone Walking Tour of Gastown worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 58 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (3.8/5 across 5 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Vancouver, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Self-Guided Smartphone Walking Tour of Gastown?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Self-Guided Smartphone Walking Tour of Gastown suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 1. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 2-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book Self-Guided Smartphone Walking Tour of Gastown?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Vancouver can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Vancouver and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Self-Guided Smartphone Walking Tour of Gastown start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Vancouver within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Vancouver?
+
On Outty we rank every Vancouver experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Vancouver City Sightseeing Tour: Capilano Suspension Bridge & Vancouver Lookout, Epic Electric Bike Tour of Vancouver, Whistler, Sea to Sky Gondola, & Shannon Falls Tour from Vancouver. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Vancouver?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Vancouver?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
