About this experience
Spend the day in the lovely landscapes of Central Europe’s largest freshwater lake on a full-day tour of Lake Balaton. Depart from Budapest and travel by air-conditioned bus to the beautiful town of Balatonfüred. Located on the north coast of Lake Balaton, the town is famously referred to as the capital city of the lake. You can experience an overview of city first by taking a short trip by “nostalgia train” around the area as well as a 1-hour cruise on Lake Balaton. Afterwards, you will have some free time to take a stroll along the picturesque promenade and enjoy some lunch (not included). Later on, drive to the “Tihany Peninsula” to see why it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The area is rich with architecture and vineyards that produce excellent quality wine. Get a unique view of Lake Balaton from the hilltop before going to the Abbey of Tihany, founded in 1055. Transfer back to Budapest by air-conditioned bus, the tour ends at Hotel Intercontinental Budapest.

Lake Balaton
A good tour, however the female guide, her English was difficult to understand and because she switched between languages, due to the different nationalities on the tour, it was hard to comprehend the information she was providing. Apart from the information she provided, she did not interact with the tour participants. Lake Balaton is a beautiful spot. I wasn't fussed in the train ride through the streets, would have much preferred to spend this time roaming Lake Balaton. The cruise of the lake was nice. I think this tour would have been much nicer had the tour guide been more sociable with the participants. The tour was overpriced in my opinion.
Response from the operator: Thank you for sharing your feedback about our Lake Balaton tour. We appreciate your comments regarding the tour, and we will take these points into consideration. We are glad that you enjoyed the beauty of Lake Balaton and the cruise, and we hope to have the opportunity to provide you with a more enjoyable experience in the future.

SKAL OPLEVES
SKAL OPLEVES Seriously so beautiful down by the water. If you like fantastic nature, visit the lake! However, you have to pay to get to the beach - that's what it is!

Lake Balaton
The overall experience was fantastic. I will say though that the cruise on the lake was a bit disappointing. There was no commentary so we didn’t know what we were looking at. Once we got to Tihany, the Lavender town it became obvious what we saw. The tour leader was very informative and patient.

Relaxing
Easy meeting point, comfortable mini coach, not too long a drive, lovely commentary, beautiful location. Remember your coins for the toilet stops. Well organised. Nice boat trip, not a lot to see from the boat as the shore line is relatively flat but it was nice and relaxing. The visit to the church and lavender village was lovely too. No hard sale to buy anything. Just a really nice trip!

Although the weather is...
Although the weather is not so good, I enjoyed the tour very much. Lake balafon is beautiful even though on a rainy/ cloudy day. Our guide Christine is very caring.

Why this scores 64
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
See the Hungarian Sea: Lake Balaton: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Budapest.
How much does See the Hungarian Sea: Lake Balaton cost?
+
Prices start at $129 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Budapest usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does See the Hungarian Sea: Lake Balaton take?
+
Plan for about 10 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Budapest is not rushed.
Is See the Hungarian Sea: Lake Balaton worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 64 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.5/5 across 10 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Budapest, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule See the Hungarian Sea: Lake Balaton?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is See the Hungarian Sea: Lake Balaton suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 10-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book See the Hungarian Sea: Lake Balaton?
+
Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Budapest can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Budapest and add a light layer if any part of the 10-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does See the Hungarian Sea: Lake Balaton start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Budapest within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Budapest?
+
On Outty we rank every Budapest experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Budapest City Landmarks Walking Tour in 2 Hours, Countryside Half-day Gastro-Wine Tour from Budapest Meal & pickup, Budapest free walking tour: Parliament and Shoes Memorial. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Budapest?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Budapest?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
