Great Family Rafting Experience!
Our family had an amazing time rafting with Big Creek Expeditions! Their communications was clear and the check in process was smooth and effortless. Our guide, Sam, was incredible - very knowledgeable about the river and the history of the area, he's funny, and kept us feeling completely safe. I would highly recommend this rafting company!

Family fun memories
This was a family vacation of 10 including 4 children ages 4-7. We found the process from beginning to end thorough and professional. I received emails from them at beginning of the booking to the day we showed up. We were given directions to the place and then briefed on safety and protocols. We were led to our rafts and since we had 10 people, we were split 5 and 5. Our guides kept us close in proximity and had some playful antics back and forth in the water. The kids were give water tubes and they could fill from the river and squirt the passengers of the rats. They loved every second and wanted more! The guides were very interactive with the passengers giving some background information, history and funny stories asking the way. At the end of trip there were photos offered, which for us was a lifetime memory! The gift shop was also very nice and not very expensive. The men in our party all bought different shirts and commented that the quality for the price was impressive. I highly recommend this company!
Response from the operator: Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed review! We’re so glad your family had a fantastic experience with us, from the booking process to the final moments on the river. It’s wonderful to hear that our guides helped keep your group together, made the trip fun for the kids, and added some playful energy to the day. We love knowing that the water tubes were a hit and that everyone enjoyed the stories and background shared along the way. We’re also happy you found the keepsake photos and gift shop to be a great addition to your visit. Your recommendation means a lot to our team, and we hope to welcome your family back for another memorable adventure!

Best introduction to rafting anyone could ask for!!
This float trip was amazing. No one in my group, which included a 7 & 9 year old, had ever gone on a float trip before. The lower Pigeon was the perfect introduction to floating. Our guide was great - Thank you Josh! The views were amazing. The river was mostly natural, with trees along the banks instead of houses and boat docks. Josh turned our boat toward the mountains and told us about them, where the water comes from, ect. He was very knowledgeable. The trip was 6 miles long. The facilities were very nice. Far exceeded my expectations. They didnt put any strangers in our boat with us, which made it feel personal, even though there were several other groups going with us. We never felt crowded. I didnt even realize they were probably sold out until the end of the trip when we loaded up in the bus to return to the outpost and i saw that we filled it up completely! Definitely worth the price we paid - under $200 fot the whole family! The photo we got from this float trip is the centerpiece of our smoky mountain vacation picture frame. We will be back to float the upper!!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We’re thrilled to hear that your family’s first float trip was such a memorable experience. It’s great to know the lower Pigeon provided the perfect introduction, and we’re delighted that Josh made your trip special with his knowledge and attention to detail. We’re also happy you enjoyed the natural beauty of the river and that our facilities exceeded your expectations. Keeping groups private and uncrowded is important to us, so we’re glad you felt your trip was personal and comfortable. Knowing your photo is a highlight of your Smoky Mountain memories means a lot to our team. We can’t wait to welcome you back for your next adventure on the upper section!

Mountain adventure
This was so much fun. I had it on my bucket list for a long time. My husband and I were a little scared but I wanted to do something adventurous for my son. We all had the best time and the scenery was beautiful. There were some rapids that had us flying out of our seat but our feet were well hooked in as they instructed us to do. I would definitely do it again. Our guide, Iona was fantastic.
Response from the operator: Thank you for sharing your wonderful experience! We're delighted to hear that you and your family had such a memorable adventure and that it checked a bucket list item off for you. Facing your fears and trying something new for your son is inspiring, and we're so glad you all enjoyed the excitement and the beautiful scenery. It’s great to know our safety instructions helped you feel secure during those thrilling rapids. Iona will be thrilled to hear your kind words! We look forward to welcoming you back for another unforgettable trip.

Why this scores 68
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Scenic Floats on the Pigeon River with Big Creek Expeditions: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Hartford.
How much does Scenic Floats on the Pigeon River with Big Creek Expeditions cost?
+
Prices start at $46 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Hartford usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Scenic Floats on the Pigeon River with Big Creek Expeditions take?
+
Plan for about 1.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Hartford is not rushed.
Is Scenic Floats on the Pigeon River with Big Creek Expeditions worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 68 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 72 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Hartford, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Scenic Floats on the Pigeon River with Big Creek Expeditions?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Scenic Floats on the Pigeon River with Big Creek Expeditions suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 1.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Scenic Floats on the Pigeon River with Big Creek Expeditions?
+
Around 25 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Hartford can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Hartford and add a light layer if any part of the 1.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Scenic Floats on the Pigeon River with Big Creek Expeditions start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Hartford within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Hartford?
+
On Outty we rank every Hartford experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Upper Pigeon Rafting Adventure, XTREME Upper Pigeon River Rafting Adventure, Upper Pigeon River Rafting Trip from Hartford. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Hartford?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Hartford?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
