Brilliant rafting trip with Walter and Piqué
We had a morning with Walter and Piqué (and driver/photographer extraordinaire Minor) rafting on the Sarapiqui. In all our holidays and trips, this has been our favourite. The guides were superb and the rafting was brilliant. The commentary about the wildlife we saw was ace and they’re really friendly and funny whilst really looking after you and keeping you safe. Definitely recommended.

Sarapique rafting class 4.
Went rafting with my girlfriend. At first we didn’t know if we should pick class 3 or 4 since we both had little to no rafting experience. Eventually we went for class 4 and are really happy that we did. Can recommend to anyone with an adventurous spirit. Turned out to be once of the best activities we did in Costa Rica.
Response from the operator: Hi Robert, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience! We’re thrilled to hear that you and your girlfriend decided to take on the Class IV adventure and enjoyed it so much, especially with little previous rafting experience. One of our favorite things is helping guests choose the trip that best matches their comfort level and sense of adventure, so it’s great to know you felt confident in your decision. We’re honored that it became one of the highlights of your time in Costa Rica. Thank you for rafting with us, and we hope to welcome you back to Sarapiquí for another adventure in the future! Fun and safe for our family
We did this with a young family on an a private tour and had such a fun time. We felt very safe and had an excellent guide (Kiké) who was very passionate about the river and the wildlife. The kids loved it. Wear lots of suncream or ideally cover up as we burnt despite having suncream on.

Excellent experience
Amazing experience, rafting was amazing perfect for everyone in the family. They provided a lovely snack of pineapples and coconut cookies. Also giving us multiple opportunities to swim and a cliff jump. Would thoroughly recommend.

Couldn’t recommend this enough
We have just done the rafting adventure and had a brilliant time. Everyone was so helpful, informative and fun to be with. We were really happy that this was a small local company, supporting the Sarapuqui local economy. We started before the big tour groups and finished after taking time to look at the wildlife and flora as well as enjoying the thrill of the water. Loved it, thank you!
Response from the operator: Hi Sarah, Thank you so much for your wonderful review! It means a lot to us that you chose to support a small local company and that you enjoyed the more personal experience we strive to provide. We love taking the time to share not only the excitement of the rapids, but also the incredible wildlife and natural beauty of the Sarapiquí River. We’re especially happy to hear that you appreciated being able to enjoy the river at a relaxed pace while avoiding the larger crowds. Thank you for your kind words about our team. It was a pleasure having you with us, and we hope to welcome you back for another adventure the next time you’re in Costa Rica. Pura Vida, Oscar & the Ríos Pura Vida Adventure Team

Why this scores 67
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Sarapiqui River, Costa Rica Rafting Tour Adventure: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for La Fortuna.
How much does Sarapiqui River, Costa Rica Rafting Tour Adventure cost?
+
Prices start at $79 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in La Fortuna usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Sarapiqui River, Costa Rica Rafting Tour Adventure take?
+
Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in La Fortuna is not rushed.
Is Sarapiqui River, Costa Rica Rafting Tour Adventure worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 67 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 24 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in La Fortuna, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Sarapiqui River, Costa Rica Rafting Tour Adventure?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Sarapiqui River, Costa Rica Rafting Tour Adventure suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 4. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 3-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book Sarapiqui River, Costa Rica Rafting Tour Adventure?
+
Around 8 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in La Fortuna can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in La Fortuna and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Sarapiqui River, Costa Rica Rafting Tour Adventure start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central La Fortuna within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in La Fortuna?
+
On Outty we rank every La Fortuna experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Upper Balsa River White Water Rafting Class 3/4 in Costa Rica, North Fields Cafe: Craft Specialty Coffee and Chocolate Tour, Canyoning Adventure Rappelling Waterfalls in Arenal Volcano. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit La Fortuna?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in La Fortuna?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
