Incompetent and discriminatory experience with boat company
if you are asian, a group of more than 3 people or a youth (age 18 to 30), buckle up and read this review because this company DOES NOT WANT YOUR BUSINESS. we booked a boat ride on 1 july for 5 people. our boat ride was booked for 3pm to 8pm and we were told to reach at 2.40pm. our group reached punctually and signed our forms with a couple. we were told that we would be briefed separately from the couple as we were and i quote verbatim "5 GIRLS". this was a huge red flag already but my friends and i just said sure and laughed it off. we then waited for 15 mins for their briefing to finish (from 240pm-255pm) and then the couple left with the two boatman. we were told that theyll come back in 10 minutes. so we waited. (on hindsight that would have meant, the boatmen will come back at 3.05pm and by the time we had done the briefing + driven there, our boating session would only start at 330pm++, which means the company already knew that in briefing us separately, we wouldnt get our full 5 hours) the boatmen came back at 3.35pm. so by then we had waited close to an hour. but our group were still fine, we just decided that if we only hit the waters at 4pm instead of 3pm, we wanted an extension for the hour we missed. when the boatmen came back, there was no apology, no explanation. the boatmen just started the briefing. when we asked for our one hour extension or a refund of the 52 euros for the hour we missed, the boatmen said it wasnt possible because the delay was due to port works which wasnt their fault. then heres the kicker - we were told we had to get an extra briefing because we were 5 girls. the boatmen told us that there were 5 boys who had rented the boat and crashed it, and now they were wary of any young people, who rented the boat in groups which is why we needed a separate briefing session. so heres the problem - 1) as mentioned, even if there were no port works, we would have started 30 minutes late. so was it really the fault of the port? or was it the fault of the company who were INCOMPETENT in dealing with logistics and buffering enough time for the briefing, and IRRESPONSIBLE enough to not feel a need to compensate for the one hour of boat time, worth 52 euros 2) it wasnt fair that even when we reached at the same time as the couple, they were already well in the waters by then (4pm) while we were told to wait let me tell you how this concluded - we settled on a compromise. the company would cover the fuel, instead of us paying for it. we agreed to it and got in the car to follow them. by then, it was already 4.20pm. a whole 1.5 hours after we arrived. we get in the car. and the boatmen, on the call with his manager, suddenly tells us again and says that we arent able to get on the boat because he doesn't feel safe with us in the boat. i have attached a screenshot of his conversation he had with the manager. he then proceeds to tell us to tell Getyourguide (the platform we booked on) a DIFFERENT REASON FOR THE CANCELLATION - to say that it's an external reason because of the port. he then tells us to not say that THE COMPANY had cancelled the booking. this is plain and simple lying, deception, manipulation, bad business. the company had their own reason for cancelling - not trusting us because of our GENDER AND AGE, and told us to LIE on the platform because they did not want to get into trouble. we went to the boat company right beside it, got a boat, had a fun time and came back just fine. so for discrimination, lack of punctuality, unethical business dealings and overall irresponsibility and incompetence - 0 stars
Response from the operator: Dear Guest, We strongly reject the serious allegations of discrimination made in this review. At Meltemi Blue Boat Rental, we proudly welcome thousands of guests every season from all over the world, representing every age group, nationality, and background—as reflected in our hundreds of 5-star reviews from diverse international travelers. Regarding your experience, we would like to set the record straight based on maritime facts and protocol: 1. Independent Briefings Are Standard Protocol We conduct separate safety briefings for every booking—regardless of party size, age, or gender. Each rental is a completely separate contract with different individuals who possess varying levels of boat-handling experience and language comprehension. Providing individual attention to each group's primary driver is an essential safety requirement, not a distinction based on who you are. 2. Safety & Right of Refusal As a licensed boat rental company operating under local Port Authority regulations, we reserve the absolute right and legal responsibility to withhold a vessel if our staff assesses a safety risk on the spot. Driving a vessel in open waters without a license requires strict adherence to safety rules, clear communication, and driver readiness. If our team assesses that safety conditions or operational protocols are not being fully met, we will always prioritize human life and sea safety over a booking—just as any responsible car or boat rental operator worldwide is required to do. If gender or age were ever an issue, we would not have accepted the booking in the first place; our decision was based solely on on-the-spot safety considerations. 3. Port Construction & Delays As is publicly known across Santorini, the port has been undergoing major expansion works this season, causing unpredictable maritime congestion, harbor traffic, and delays completely outside our direct control. We always aim to handle delay disputes fairly, but safety is one area where we will never compromise or take shortcuts. While we are sorry your experience did not go as planned, our safety protocols exist to protect both our guests and everyone on the water. We wish you safe travels. Best regards, Meltemi Blue Boat Rental Team

Operator cancelled my hire due to the weather 48 hours in advance, by their own booking policy this should be a refund to the customer. They proposed changing the date which didnt fit into our plans so couldn't confirm the rebooking. Slow to answer questions on whatsapp. After all this they have blocked me on whatsapp after asking for a refund. I wouldn't trust this company with your money. Having to go through my bank to try recover funds
Response from the operator: Dear Customer, We would like to clarify the facts regarding your booking and refund request. When weather conditions force us to cancel a rental for safety reasons, we always provide either a free reschedule or a full refund according to policy. As soon as you informed us that a date change did not fit your schedule, we immediately agreed to issue your full refund and requested your IBAN details to process the bank transfer. However, right after providing your IBAN, you simultaneously initiated a formal bank chargeback. Once a bank chargeback is opened, the banking system automatically freezes direct transfers to prevent duplicate payouts, leaving the refund resolution entirely in the hands of the financial institutions. We have never blocked you on WhatsApp, nor would we ever hold a customer's funds when a weather cancellation occurs. Our communication was simply paused while the official bank dispute process took over. We always process refunds fairly and transparently, but duplicate payouts through both bank transfer and chargeback cannot be processed. Best regards, Meltemi Blue Boat Rental Team

Santorini License Free Luxury Boat Rental: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Santorini.
How much does Santorini License Free Luxury Boat Rental cost?
+
Prices start at $218 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Santorini usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Santorini License Free Luxury Boat Rental take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Santorini is not rushed.
Is Santorini License Free Luxury Boat Rental worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 46 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (1/5 across 2 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable most popular in Santorini, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Santorini License Free Luxury Boat Rental?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Santorini License Free Luxury Boat Rental suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Santorini License Free Luxury Boat Rental?
+
Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Santorini can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Santorini and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Santorini License Free Luxury Boat Rental start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Santorini within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Santorini?
+
On Outty we rank every Santorini experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Half Day Premium Catamaran Cruise in Santorini including Oia, Private Santorini Tailor Made - Choice of the Guest!, Private Classic Santorini Panorama: Visit Top Destinations. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Santorini?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Santorini?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
