Exhausting but worth it
The trek was much more difficult than expected but much worth the scenery. Our guide, Luka, was always around to help and the day was very well organized. My friend fell on rocks and required stitches. A doctor was available at the village mid-way and stitched her up. The doctor available at the end also cleaned up the wound to make sure she left in good shape. A great (but exhausting and physically painful) experience!

Full day adventure off the grid in southern Crete
Definitely wear good shoes, a hat, lots of sunscreen, and a water bottle and snacks. Plenty of places to refill your water bottle along the way, but no food available. It’s a long but wonderful day hiking the gorge and the. 2-3 hours in Agia Romeli to eat and recharge your body before the ferry ride to head back.

Beautiful hike
The hike is around 10 miles mostly downhill so it’s not too strenuous, but it’s still a long way and you should be in reasonably good physical condition to make this hike. It does get kind of crowded, and I kept getting passed by people who seemed to be in a hurry. I recommend you slow down and take the sites along the way because it is a very beautiful hike. The trail is rough enough that you have to watch where you’re going while you hike so it’s difficult to sightsee and walk at the same time. If you hurry through the gorge, you’ll get to the end and then wonder why you came all that way, but if you take your time and stop on the ground and take some pictures, you will have a wonderful time. They start you early in the morning and you need to finish by 4:30 or five in order to catch the 530 ferry back to the road system. That is not difficult to do. I finished at three because I wanted to make sure I wasn’t cutting it close and I wish I would have slowed down even a little bit more and tried to finish about four. That would still give plenty of time to take a nice dip at the beach before getting on the boat.

Amazing Hike
Amazing trip through the Gorge NOT for people that dont like walking. You need to be fit. We are big walkers and even we found it hard. I'd recommend stretching before hand as it's a downhill for almost 1o miles there is no up hill warm up like your usual hike. Th swim at the end was incredible. Sara was amazing and her driver. Definitely recommend them for the trip.

Why this scores 75
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Samaria Gorge Trek: Full-Day Excursion from Chania with Guide: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Chania.
How much does Samaria Gorge Trek: Full-Day Excursion from Chania with Guide cost?
+
Prices start at $17 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Chania usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Samaria Gorge Trek: Full-Day Excursion from Chania with Guide take?
+
Plan for about 12 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Chania is not rushed.
Is Samaria Gorge Trek: Full-Day Excursion from Chania with Guide worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 75 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.6/5 across 54 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Chania, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Samaria Gorge Trek: Full-Day Excursion from Chania with Guide?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Samaria Gorge Trek: Full-Day Excursion from Chania with Guide suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 5. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 12-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book Samaria Gorge Trek: Full-Day Excursion from Chania with Guide?
+
Around 19 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Chania can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Chania and add a light layer if any part of the 12-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Samaria Gorge Trek: Full-Day Excursion from Chania with Guide start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Chania within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Chania?
+
On Outty we rank every Chania experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Half-Day Rethymno Quad Safari, Elafonisi & Falasarna Small Group Tour from Chania w/snacks, Balos & Falassarna Beach - Jeep Tour with Loungers and Lunch. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Chania?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Chania?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
