What you'll see and do
The Venerable Thich Quang Duc Monument
On June 11, 1963, Thich Quang Duc rode to Saigon from the war-torn city of Huế in an Austin Westminster. He stepped out of the baby blue automobile onto a busy intersection and sat calmly in the lotus position while a colleague poured gasoline from a five-gallon container over his head. Surrounded by a circle of protesters, burned himself to death. He described his intentions in a final note: “I respectfully plead to President Ngo Dinh Diem to take a mind of compassion towards the people of the nation and implement religious equality to maintain the strength of the homeland eternally.” In 2010, a memorial, displaying the monk wreathed in flames, was installed on the very corner where he died a half century before. Prior to the statue, which sits in front of a bas-relief depicting the powerful action, American journalist Malcolm Browne’s photographs were the most accessible reminders of the event.

As we cross into District 5 (Chinatown), hold on tight as our Jeep merges into the legendary Nguyen Trai Street. Known as the busiest fashion corridor in the city, this street comes alive at night with an electric energy that you have to see to believe. From your open-air seat, you are instantly immersed in a "river of lights." Hundreds of neon signs from clothing shops, shoe stores, and sidewalks vendors create a kaleidoscope of colors flashing by. You are not just watching the traffic; you are part of it. Surrounded by a sea of motorbikes, you will feel the true pulse of Saigon's nightlife—chaotic, loud, and incredibly vibrant. This is the ultimate "urban safari" experience. Witnessing the hustle of locals shopping, the endless flow of vehicles, and the glowing lantern decorations of Chinatown creates a mesmerizing visual spectacle that looks like a scene from a cyberpunk movie.
Pass by without stopping
Get ready for a rush of adrenaline as we descend 27 meters below the water’s surface into the Saigon River Tunnel—a modern engineering marvel connecting the old city with the new. Riding in an open-air Jeep makes this experience completely unique compared to a standard car or bus. As we enter the glowing tube, the sound of the Jeep’s engine amplifies, echoing off the concrete walls to create a powerful, thrilling roar that you can physically feel. The futuristic amber lights whizzing by create a "sci-fi" atmosphere, making you feel like the star of an action movie. The best part is the finale: The "Light at the end of the tunnel." As we burst out from the underground depth back into the open night air, the sparkling skyline of District 1 suddenly reveals itself right before your eyes. It is a stunning visual contrast—from the enclosed intensity of the tunnel to the wide, glittering panorama of the city center.
Pass by without stopping
Prepare for the most cinematic moment of your night! As our open-air US Jeep roars onto the Ba Son Bridge (Thu Thiem 2), you will feel like you are flying over the Saigon River. This is the absolute best vantage point to see the city’s transformation. With no windows to block your view, you are treated to a breathtaking 360-degree panorama. To your left, the glittering skyline of historic District 1 shines bright with the iconic Bitexco Financial Tower. To your right, the futuristic Landmark 81 pierces the night sky, reflecting its dazzling lights onto the dark water below. Feel the cool river breeze rushing through your hair and the adrenaline of the ride as we cruise along the bridge’s artistic illuminated cables. It is not just a transfer; it is a front-row seat to the spectacular light show of modern Ho Chi Minh City. Don’t forget to have your camera ready—this is the "money shot" of the entire trip!

A must do
What a fantastic tour to do! We got so lucky with a great driver, Drew, and his immaculate Jeep, along with our wonderful guide, Jennie. Jennie was incredibly enthusiastic and happy to share stories and insights into how the country was formed and how it operates today. This was a night food tour, and that is exactly what was delivered. There was so much delicious food on offer from local street-food vendors — the kind of food we would normally be curious about but probably never be courageous enough to try on our own. Everything was so different from our normal diet, with so many different flavours and tastes, and all of it was absolutely yummy. It was a fantastic way to spend the evening, made even better by having such great people showing us around. If you only do one tour while you're in town, this is the one to do. And if you're lucky enough to get Jennyieand Drew as your hosts, you definitely won't be disappointed!

Chaos, Culture & Incredible Food: The Best Way to Experience Nighttime Ho Chi Minh City by US Army Jeep
Did the 4-hour “Saigon Night Food Adventure” by old US Army jeep tonight in Ho Chi Minh City and honestly…it was chaos in the best possible way. Cruising through the city at night in an old open-air jeep while the traffic swarms around you feels slightly unhinged and completely unforgettable. One minute you’re weaving through neon-lit streets and hidden alleyways, the next you’re parked roadside eating incredible local food on tiny plastic stools while the city explodes around you. The food was amazing — authentic local spots we never would have found on our own, with every stop offering something completely different. But the real standout was our guide, Sammy. She was exceptional. Warm, funny, incredibly knowledgeable, and deeply passionate about the city, its culture, and the food. She didn’t just guide the tour — she brought the entire experience to life with stories, history, local insight, and the kind of energy that made everyone feel instantly comfortable and engaged. Seeing Ho Chi Minh City at night from the back of that jeep — neon lights, endless scooters, music spilling into the streets, people everywhere — felt immersive in a way that’s hard to explain. Highly recommend this experience if you want something vibrant, memorable, slightly chaotic, and genuinely authentic.
Response from the operator: Dear Shama, Wow — thank you for such an incredible and beautifully written review! We absolutely love your description: “chaos in the best possible way.” That perfectly captures the energy and spirit of Ho Chi Minh City at night. From the buzzing neon streets and endless scooters to the hidden alleyways and tiny local food spots, we’re so happy you were able to experience the city in such an immersive and unforgettable way. Most of all, thank you for your kind words about Sammy. She truly loves sharing the culture, stories, and flavors of Saigon with our guests, and we’ll make sure your compliments are passed on to her. We’re thrilled to hear she helped bring the entire adventure to life and made everyone feel welcomed and engaged throughout the evening. It means so much to know the tour felt authentic, vibrant, memorable, and full of energy — exactly the experience we hope every guest takes away with them. Thank you again for joining us, and we hope to welcome you back for another Jeep adventure in Saigon someday! Warm regards, Luc & Saigon Foody Tour Team

Amazing sites and food
Excellent tour, Mimi has a great wealth of knowledge and eager to share her heritage. Food was fantastic and I ate way too much. Was quite a unique experience being shown through the districts from a vintage Jeep,
Response from the operator: Dear Mark, Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We are delighted to hear that you had an "amazing" time on our Street Food Safari. It’s fantastic to know that Mimi’s passion for her heritage and her wealth of knowledge made the tour special for you. We take great pride in showing our guests the authentic side of Saigon’s districts, and there's truly no better way to do it than from the seat of a vintage US Army Jeep! We’re also glad you enjoyed the food—even if you "ate way too much"! That is exactly the goal of our Safari. I will be sure to share your kind words with Mimi and the team. We hope to see you again on your next trip to Vietnam! Best regards, Luc & Saigon Foody Tour Team

Saigon Night Food Adventure: US Army Jeep & Scooters: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Ho Chi Minh City.
How much does Saigon Night Food Adventure: US Army Jeep & Scooters cost?
+
Prices start at $42 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Ho Chi Minh City usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Saigon Night Food Adventure: US Army Jeep & Scooters take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Ho Chi Minh City is not rushed.
Is Saigon Night Food Adventure: US Army Jeep & Scooters worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 70 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 31 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Ho Chi Minh City, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Saigon Night Food Adventure: US Army Jeep & Scooters?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Saigon Night Food Adventure: US Army Jeep & Scooters suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Saigon Night Food Adventure: US Army Jeep & Scooters?
+
Around 11 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Ho Chi Minh City can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Ho Chi Minh City and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Saigon Night Food Adventure: US Army Jeep & Scooters start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Ho Chi Minh City within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Ho Chi Minh City?
+
On Outty we rank every Ho Chi Minh City experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Cai Be Mekong Delta Tour: Cooking Class, Cycling & Craft Villages, Adventure Cu Chi Tunnels and Mekong Delta Tour From HCM, Cu Chi Tunnels and Mekong Delta 1 Day Tour With Small Group. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Ho Chi Minh City?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Ho Chi Minh City?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
