Visit the Sachsenhausen Memorial, which was the concentration camp closest to the Nazi capital and became a prototype on which all other camps were based. On this tour we will take you back to the prisoners' daily life and their struggle for survival on the basis of selected biographies. The prisoners were among others simply Communists, Jews and whoever else the Nazis considered their enemy. Just imagine that 200 000 inmates from 40 countries had been here. We will take a train departing 5 minutes after the official start time of the tour. To avoid missing the train, it is essential to arrive at least 15 minutes early. The guided tour starts on time and late arrivals cannot be accommodated. On the day of the guided visit, all participants are required to pay €3 in cash at the meeting point as a mandatory donation requested by the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp Memorial. The full amount will be donated to the Memorial. We recommend bringing something to eat and drink.

Memorial and Museum Sachsenhausen
The visit to the former Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp begins at the Memorial entrance, where we learn about its role as a model camp in the Nazi system. We continue to the former SS Officers’ Casino, a stark contrast to the prisoners’ reality. Through Tower A, the main gate, we see how the camp’s layout enforced total control. On the Roll Call Square, we hear about the long, punishing daily roll calls. In Barracks 38 and 39, we learn about the persecution of Jewish prisoners. The former camp kitchen, now a museum, shows documents and testimonies about forced labor and daily life. At the ruins of Station Z, the site of the gas chamber and crematoria, we confront the camp’s function as a place of extermination. The tour ends at the infirmary and pathology lab, where medical experiments and abuse were carried out.

Andrea was exceptional in his explanations. He provides many indications about the place and history during the tour and makes the tour very exciting even for "non-experts." The only room for improvement is the logistics. The 24-hour ticket to reach the place (to be paid separately, for zone C) costs about 12.50 euros, so organizing a bus from Berlin should be considered to make travel to and from Sachsenhausen faster for large groups, as happens in August. Furthermore, the use of radios with earpieces could perfect the experience.

È inoltre la soluzione nettamente più economica per i partecipanti: nei periodi di maggiore affluenza, quando organizziamo contemporaneamente più gruppi, il costo di un pullman sarebbe almeno tre volte superiore a quello dei mezzi pubblici. Il biglietto ABC, inoltre, è valido 24 ore e può quindi essere utilizzato anche prima e dopo il tour per continuare a spostarsi e scoprire Berlino. Un biglietto dei trasporti sarebbe dunque, nella maggior parte dei casi, comunque necessario una volta rientrati in città. Per quanto riguarda gli auricolari, il Memoriale di Sachsenhausen stabilisce un numero massimo di partecipanti per ogni gruppo proprio per garantire la qualità della visita e il rispetto del luogo. Non è quindi possibile aumentare le dimensioni dei gruppi utilizzando radioguide o auricolari: naturalmente rispettiamo rigorosamente queste disposizioni.
