What you'll see and do
Belgrade
Our tour starts from your accommodation, and we head toward Western Serbia, known for its wild and untouched nature, tasty cuisine, and friendly and hospitable people. Two and a half hours ride we’ll spend enjoying the beautiful landscapes and listening to interesting stories about this part of the country.
150 minutes here
Mokra Gora
After a relaxing ride, we’ll arrive just in time for the departure of the famous Šargan Eight scenic train. A unique narrow-gauge railway nowadays serves only for amusement. We will stop at several viewpoints during our ride, from which you can enjoy fabulous views over Mokra Gora. Authentic cars with wooden seats, wood-burning stoves, and characteristic rattling sounds will transport us back to 1925, when this railway was put into operation, establishing a connection between Belgrade and the Adriatic Sea.
90 minutes here
After a 1.5-hour ride, we return to the departure station, where we continue our journey to the nearby Mećavnik, also known as Drvengrad (Wooden City). The renowned director Emir Kusturica, a two-time Palme d’Or winner at Cannes, decided to build it during the filming of his movie “Life Is a Miracle.” He chose to convey ruined wooden chalets from the mountain’s slopes, restore them, and equip them with luxurious facilities to form a new settlement. Here, we will make a stop to enjoy a traditional lunch featuring specialties of Western Serbia’s renowned cuisine, irresistibly delicious and piquant (not included). After the meal, we will have some free time for relaxation, and then continue with our tour.
90 minutes here
Drina River House
Shortly after, we will reach our next stop, Bajina Bašta, a small town in the foothills of Mt. Tara. Here, we will see the world-famous attraction, “The House on the Drina,” an isolated log cabin situated on a river stone. A photograph of the structure was featured in National Geographic’s ‘Photo of the Day’, and not too long after that, this charming spot became one of the most photographed sights in the Balkans.
20 minutes here
Gate of Podrinje
Our final stop for the day is one of the most famous viewpoints in the area, “Kapija Podrinja.” From here, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains.
15 minutes here
Belgrade
Finally, we’ll head back home, riding through the pristine nature of the Povlen mountains. After a ride of around two and a half hours, including one stop, we will arrive in Belgrade in the afternoon. Drop off at your hotels. End of services.

Šargan Eight Railway, Wooden Town & House on Drina river day trip from Belgrade: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Belgrade.
How much does Šargan Eight Railway, Wooden Town & House on Drina river day trip from Belgrade cost?
+
Prices start at $45 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Belgrade usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Šargan Eight Railway, Wooden Town & House on Drina river day trip from Belgrade take?
+
Plan for about 10 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Belgrade is not rushed.
Is Šargan Eight Railway, Wooden Town & House on Drina river day trip from Belgrade worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 84 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 113 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Belgrade, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Šargan Eight Railway, Wooden Town & House on Drina river day trip from Belgrade?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Šargan Eight Railway, Wooden Town & House on Drina river day trip from Belgrade suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 10-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Šargan Eight Railway, Wooden Town & House on Drina river day trip from Belgrade?
+
Around 40 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Belgrade can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Belgrade and add a light layer if any part of the 10-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Šargan Eight Railway, Wooden Town & House on Drina river day trip from Belgrade start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Belgrade within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Belgrade?
+
On Outty we rank every Belgrade experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Day Trip from Belgrade: Gems of Eastern Serbia, Northern Serbia: Sremski Karlovci and Novi Sad Full-Day Tour from Belgrade, Belgrade: 3-Hour Small Group Walking Tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Belgrade?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Belgrade?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
