Deceptive Bait-and-Switch / Hidden Mandatory Fees
The Viator listing explicitly promises "entradas incluidas" (tickets included) and "sin sorpresas en destino" (no surprises). However, upon pickup, the operator forced us to pay an extra 1,200 MXN via card terminal just to go on the tour. When we questioned them about the "maintenance fee" mentioned in their texts, they admitted it was just for tickets—which the listing claimed were already included. Complete scam pricing tactic to artificially lower their upfront Viator price. Avoid this operator.
Response from the operator: Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are sorry to learn that your experience did not meet your expectations. However, we would like to respectfully clarify that the additional fee mentioned was not a hidden charge or an unexpected payment at the time of the tour. The mandatory fee of MXN 600 per person is clearly stated in the product description before booking. This information is also displayed again during the reservation process and is itemized in the booking details once the purchase has been confirmed. In addition, as part of our customer service process, we send a reminder before the tour through both the platform and direct messages to ensure that all travelers are aware of any required payments prior to the activity. We understand that additional fees can raise concerns, which is why we make every effort to communicate this information clearly and on multiple occasions before the tour begins. Transparency is very important to us, and we continuously strive to ensure that travelers have all the information needed to make an informed decision. We appreciate your feedback and the opportunity to clarify this matter.

Fantastic tour with an exceptional guide!!
This tour might be a challenge for older people or those who might find LOTS of climbing a challenge. It was a wonderful experience!
Response from the operator: Hello Andrea, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us. We are truly happy to know that you enjoyed the tour and that our guide helped make your adventure through Oaxaca special and memorable. We also greatly appreciate your thoughtful recommendation regarding the physical activity involved during the experience. Monte Albán is indeed an incredible archaeological site, and some areas may be challenging due to the amount of walking and climbing required, especially for older travelers or guests with mobility limitations. It means a lot to us that despite this, you still had a wonderful experience. We sincerely hope to welcome you again on another adventure in the future. Best regards. Antequera Travel

Why this scores 67
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Roots of Oaxaca: Monte Albán and ancient art.: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Oaxaca City.
How much does Roots of Oaxaca: Monte Albán and ancient art. cost?
+
Prices start at $51 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Oaxaca City usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Roots of Oaxaca: Monte Albán and ancient art. take?
+
Plan for about 9 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Oaxaca City is not rushed.
Is Roots of Oaxaca: Monte Albán and ancient art. worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 67 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.6/5 across 11 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Oaxaca City, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Roots of Oaxaca: Monte Albán and ancient art.?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Roots of Oaxaca: Monte Albán and ancient art. suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 9-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Roots of Oaxaca: Monte Albán and ancient art.?
+
Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Oaxaca City can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Oaxaca City and add a light layer if any part of the 9-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Roots of Oaxaca: Monte Albán and ancient art. start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Oaxaca City within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Oaxaca City?
+
On Outty we rank every Oaxaca City experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include AUTHENTIC OAXACA CULTURAL FOOD TOUR, eat like a local., Hierve el Agua 2.5 hours, Mitla, Tule, Rugs and Mezcal for a Day, Traditional Oaxaqueña Cooking with Grandma's Recipes. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Oaxaca City?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Oaxaca City?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
