Bad communication
Arrived they never showed up or couldn’t be found. They need to be more specific and use a colored flag like every other tour so we can find them.
Response from the operator: Thank you for your review. However, we must clarify that our staff was present at the designated meeting point at the scheduled time, holding the Arena Tours sign. The meeting point was correctly indicated in the booking confirmation, and our contact details were available should you have had any difficulty locating the group. Unfortunately, we did not receive any call or message from you. We are therefore sorry that you were unable to find our staff, but the tour did operate as scheduled and our team was present at the meeting point.

Tour cancelled 1 hour before!
Horrible experience! Booked an extra day to specifically tour the underground of colesseum. They cancelled our 2:30 pm tour 1 hour before due to no guide. Everything was sold out for the day so we had nothing to do. Horrible way to end our last day of travel. Had another tour cancelled by Viator earlier in the week! Won’t use them againz
Response from the operator: We are very sorry to read this review, as the information provided is simply not accurate. Our team tried to contact you by phone for two days to inform you that the reserved entry time had been changed by 30 minutes and that you needed to arrive at the meeting point 30 minutes earlier. Unfortunately, you did not answer our calls. You then arrived at the meeting point too late to join the tour. Therefore, the tour was not cancelled one hour before departure due to the absence of a guide, as stated in your review. Our guide was present and ready to operate the tour at the scheduled meeting point. We understand that changes to travel plans can be frustrating, but it is unfair to state that the tour was cancelled because there was no guide when our team made repeated attempts to contact you in advance and the guide was present.

Couldn’t find the guide!!!
We looked for half an hour for our Guide and never found them so we did not get to take the tour. We had people sending us over here and over there and oh no it’s over here and at the end of the day the tout was starting and we could never find them very disappointing..
Response from the operator: We are sorry to hear that you missed the tour; however, we would like to clarify a few important details. We attempted to contact you for three days prior to the tour using the phone number provided on the booking, in order to help make your arrival and check-in process easier, but unfortunately we were unable to reach you. According to our records, you contacted us only 10 minutes after the tour had already started. Guests are required to arrive at the meeting point at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start time. Our guide was present at the designated meeting point and the tour departed as scheduled. Unfortunately, once the group has entered and the tour has begun, it is not possible to delay entry or join the group late. We regret that you were unable to participate and encourage all guests to review the meeting instructions and arrival time in advance to ensure a smooth experience.

Beware last minute cancellation
Canceled my $500 underground tour 4 hours before the tour start time. I was already at the coloseum.
Response from the operator: We are very sorry again for the inconvenience caused by the cancellation. Unfortunately, on the day of your tour, access to the Underground area was unexpectedly closed by the monument authorities, which was completely outside of our control. As soon as we received the notification, we immediately informed all affected customers and issued a full refund. We understand how disappointing this was, especially after planning and arriving at the Colosseum, and we truly regret the situation. Thank you for your understanding.

Why this scores 26
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Rome: VIP Colosseum Underground Guided Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Rome.
How much does Rome: VIP Colosseum Underground Guided Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $200 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Rome usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Rome: VIP Colosseum Underground Guided Tour take?
+
Plan for about 2.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Rome is not rushed.
Is Rome: VIP Colosseum Underground Guided Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 26 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (2.9/5 across 21 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable culture & history in Rome, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Rome: VIP Colosseum Underground Guided Tour?
+
No. This experience is sold on a non-refundable basis, so only book a date you are confident about. Similar experiences in the city do offer free cancellation if flexibility matters more than price.
Is Rome: VIP Colosseum Underground Guided Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 10. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 2.5-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book Rome: VIP Colosseum Underground Guided Tour?
+
Around 7 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Rome can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Rome and add a light layer if any part of the 2.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Rome: VIP Colosseum Underground Guided Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Rome within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Rome?
+
Rome runs on skip-the-line access. The Colosseum underground, the Vatican before opening, and the catacombs south of the walls all require a licensed operator, and the price gap between the good ones and the rest is smaller than you would expect. We rank by guide credentials, group size and how reliably the promised access actually materialises. On Outty we rank every Rome experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Rome Pasta and Tiramisu Class: Ravioli, Fettuccine & Fine Wine 5*, Pasta Making & Wine Tasting with Dinner in Frascati from Rome, Rome: Pizza & Tiramisu or Gelato Class with Flowing Fine Wine 5*. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Rome?
+
April, May, September and October. August is hot and half the city is shut. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Rome?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
