About this experience

Enjoy a 2-hour guided tour exploring the details of this one-of-a-kind ancient city while uncovering moments of terror frozen in time, death postures, and ruins unchanged from almost two millennia ago. Stroll along the ancient streets where perfectly conserved ancient bakeries, shops, stalls, private and communal residences, public baths, and yes, even brothels remain! Upon conclusion of the guided tour in Pompeii, we’ll visit a historic pizzeria serving some of the most authentic pizza Pompei has to offer (and remember, we’re in the birthplace of Italian pizza, so it’s a competitive market)! After lunch, we’ll make the short ride back to the heart of Naples for more exploring. Take in the breathtaking view of the Bay of Naples from Posillipo, where the famous saying “See Naples and die” will suddenly make perfect sense. While Vesuvius looms in the distance, take in one of the most naturally and artistically beautiful cities in the world from a stunning vantage point.

10/10 awesome guide

Our guide was amazing, very friendly was easy to understand. We were traveling with 4 teenage girls, so he asked us about more sensitive topics before talking about them or showing them to us, which we appreciated. The tour was a good amount of time when traveling with teenagers 15-16y. The lunch was wonderful and big, they kept bringing us food and we could not finish it. The buses AC worked amazingly well. The driver was very nice. the guide answered all of our questions and was very patient with the girls. 10/10

this is the way to do Pompeii

Pompeii was an amazing archeological site as you would expect. Our guide was very knowledgeable and made sure we all understood what we were looking at. Antonio was professional and kind, he paid attention to the adults as well as the children. The winery lunch after the tour was over the top! The food was incredible an fresh with simple ingredients and the wine/limoncello was delicious. This excursion was a highlight of our trip. The winery was great for our daughter who is 10 and 2 friends she made while on the tour to explore and run around in after a day of walking through history. The winery is beautiful and the staff was very friendly.

High speed train makes this tour worth it.

The walking portion of the tour was a little too fast - didn't have time to admire and or learn about the scenery. Granted it was very very hot when we did this tour and I think everyone wanted to just get into AC. Meeting point not well marked or explained at the train station. Guides seemed a little impatient and harried. Again, to be fair, it was almost a 100 degrees Faranheit out.

A must on your to do list of Italy

The trip was spectacular. Our guide, Felicia , was outstanding. More than qualified to lead us through the ruins of Pompeii, she gave us the highlights and interesting facts with enthusiasm. The high speed train and motor coach transpiration were awesome. The tour of Pompeii was fantastic. The wine tasting and lunch afterwards was a great experience and pleasantly surprising- exceeding all expectations. I would highly recommend this tour if you have not been to Pompeii previously. It’s a great way to learn about the city and have fun at the same time.

Best day trip from Rome

If you could only pick one day trip from Rome (and wanted to see Pompeii), do this one! Being able to do the high speed train for an hour was so much better than 3 hours on a bus. Having all the transfers prearranged made navigation a breeze. Frederica was our guide in Pompeii and she was so knowledgeable, kind, and patient with my two daughters (aged 2.5 and 6). The wine tasting at Bosch di Medici afterwards was such a nice treat and so relaxing after a busy few hours at Pompeii. I will be recommending this tour to anyone I know who comes to Rome.

Rome to Pompeii & Naples: High-Speed Train Day Trip with Lunch: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Rome.

How much does Rome to Pompeii & Naples: High-Speed Train Day Trip with Lunch cost?

+

Prices start at $119 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Rome usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Rome to Pompeii & Naples: High-Speed Train Day Trip with Lunch take?

+

Plan for about 11.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Rome is not rushed.

Is Rome to Pompeii & Naples: High-Speed Train Day Trip with Lunch worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 84 out of 100, which we label "Exceptional". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 243 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Rome, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Rome to Pompeii & Naples: High-Speed Train Day Trip with Lunch?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Rome to Pompeii & Naples: High-Speed Train Day Trip with Lunch suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 11.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Rome to Pompeii & Naples: High-Speed Train Day Trip with Lunch?

+

Around 85 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Rome can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Rome and add a light layer if any part of the 11.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Rome to Pompeii & Naples: High-Speed Train Day Trip with Lunch start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Rome within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Rome?

+

Rome runs on skip-the-line access. The Colosseum underground, the Vatican before opening, and the catacombs south of the walls all require a licensed operator, and the price gap between the good ones and the rest is smaller than you would expect. We rank by guide credentials, group size and how reliably the promised access actually materialises. On Outty we rank every Rome experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Rome Pasta and Tiramisu Class: Ravioli, Fettuccine & Fine Wine 5*, Pasta Making & Wine Tasting with Dinner in Frascati from Rome, Rome: Pizza & Tiramisu or Gelato Class with Flowing Fine Wine 5*. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Rome?

+

April, May, September and October. August is hot and half the city is shut. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Rome?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
