Delightful tour guide
Bea was a delightful tour guide. Not as knowlledable as we would have expected. But we enjoyed her company and expertise for the afternoon. She customizes the tour based on tourist interest.
Response from the operator: Hello Lucille, We’re sorry to hear that your host was not quite as knowledgeable as you had expected, and we greatly appreciate your kind words that you found their company delightful. We are always on the lookout to help our hosts expand their knowledge whenever possible and we’re thrilled that your experience was still tailored to your preferences. We hope to host you again in the future to have another chance to show you how important our host’s knowledge is as much as your enjoyment of your experience. Warm regards, Kyle and the City Unscripted team.

Rome city walk with a local
As our first visit to Rome, my wife and I decided to book a local to show us the real Rome. Our guide Alessandro was fabulous. Polite, attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. He showed views and areas of Rome we would never have seen. Lunch at one of Rome’s oldest pizza ovens was a treat. Alessandro went out of his way to ensure that the rest of our stay in Rome was safe and exciting. Thankyou and highly recommended.

A Day in Rome
We had such a great time with Gerry! He was loads of fun and laughter... because we only had 8 hours in Rome, he showed us the most important tourist sites in the City Center as well as a few non touristy things along our day. He took us to a cute little bistro for lunch and we stopped at the end of the day at a cool Irish Pub. We was informative about everything with a few things that we did not know, which was awesome, but we also did not want a "tour guide" to be completely in depth about things. We wanted to have a local show us around, so we did not get lost, but also a little bit of history... Gerry provided that in spades. We enjoyed our day, even in the 40 degree heat... the island in the middle of Rome was really neat, the little bit of history of Napoleon Bonapardt…. the cool little additional theaters that we most likely would not have found. thanks Gerry!!!!!! Private tours with Cecilia (Rome)-City Unscripted
This recommendation is long overdue, but I just had to share with everyone how wonderful our local host Cecilia was during our visit to Rome. We were delayed with our flight from Paris to Rome (missing breakfast & lunch) and immediately Cecilia was so thoughtful as to suggest that we meet at a local trattoria that was right across from the Vatican Museum entrance, which was our starting point. As soon as we met her, I knew we were in “good hands”, it was as if she made it her personal goal to make sure we had the most wonderful and informative time during our stay in Rome. Mere words can describe how awesome it was to see all the sights of the Vatican as well as all of the sights of Rome with such a delightful person who was so full of knowledge on each place we visited. It was as if she could read our minds by showing and describing everything that we were particularly interested in. As Cecila explained the history of each place we visited, I noticed that other tourists were so impressed with what they overheard, they discreetly tried to keep up with us so they too could benefit from all of her worldly knowledge. It was like having your “best friend” arrange everything so your entire trip was absolutely perfect. She suggested wonderful lunch spots that we all enjoyed, shopping spots also and then every evening she would give us up to three different suggestions of local Italian restaurants / trattorias to choose from. Our time with Cecilia in Rome was by far the best vacation I have ever experienced in all of my life (and I am 57 years old). If you plan to go to Rome, you owe to yourself to “experience” Rome with Cecilia because you will definitely have a more enriched time then you could ever imagine. Ciao ! Robby W. & Pam W.

Why this scores 61
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Rome Like a Local: Private & Custom Walking Tour with a Guide: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Rome.
How much does Rome Like a Local: Private & Custom Walking Tour with a Guide cost?
+
Prices start at $15 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Rome usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Rome Like a Local: Private & Custom Walking Tour with a Guide take?
+
Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Rome is not rushed.
Is Rome Like a Local: Private & Custom Walking Tour with a Guide worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 61 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.4/5 across 9 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Rome, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Rome Like a Local: Private & Custom Walking Tour with a Guide?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Rome Like a Local: Private & Custom Walking Tour with a Guide suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Rome Like a Local: Private & Custom Walking Tour with a Guide?
+
Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Rome can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Rome and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Rome Like a Local: Private & Custom Walking Tour with a Guide start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Rome within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Rome?
+
Rome runs on skip-the-line access. The Colosseum underground, the Vatican before opening, and the catacombs south of the walls all require a licensed operator, and the price gap between the good ones and the rest is smaller than you would expect. We rank by guide credentials, group size and how reliably the promised access actually materialises. On Outty we rank every Rome experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Rome Pasta and Tiramisu Class: Ravioli, Fettuccine & Fine Wine 5*, Pasta Making & Wine Tasting with Dinner in Frascati from Rome, Rome: Pizza & Tiramisu or Gelato Class with Flowing Fine Wine 5*. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Rome?
+
April, May, September and October. August is hot and half the city is shut. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Rome?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
