I would not recommend this tour operator.
This was supposed to be a private van tour for 8 hours, but the driver only expected to drive us from one point to another point and drop us off for 30 to 60 minutes at a time. Less than two hours into the tour he complained multiple times that we did not get out of the van enough and that he was tired driving so much. He actually jammed on his brakes hard to show us that he was not pleased. One of our family members had trouble walking long distance. The driver kept telling us that the tour was not wheelchair accessible, but we did not have a wheelchair with us. Our sole reason for booking an expensive private van tour was the flexibility. The descriptions of the tour did not mention that we must get out of the van at all the stops. Some of us got out at some stops, but the driver was clearly not happy that he had to keep the vehicle running for the remaining members of the family. We ended up taking a break at a cafe for almost two hours rather than dealing with him. I would consider the tour listing to be false advertising because it was really not a private tour but a transport in between points. The driver was neither flexible nor willing to accommodate us. We ended the tour at least two hours early. It was overall a pretty bad experience. The driver clearly expected to drive only 2 hours or so during the 8 hours tour. The tour operator needs to correct the listing to include the maximum amount of time that the driver is willing to drive and the amount of breaks that he expects to get out of the time of the tour. If the tour operator expects his passengers to get out at each stop and spend a certain amount of time at a given stop, that information needs to be included in the descriptions. I would not recommend this tour operator.
Response from the operator: the tour of Roma includes around 13 stops in which is required for the passengers to go out of the vehicle and visit the sites , even a few minutes , we cannot do the tour just driving around, it woud end in no more than 3 hours !!than , we can t have your elder members left in the car because we can t keep the engine running or to leave them alone in the car!!! is against the law ..i did try to explain all this doing the tour but i see it was useless...for everyone else reading this, we can t keep your old members in the car while the others go somewhere , we , the drivers stop the car and go into a cafe while waiting for the clients going to see something...not to mention we are drivers not proffessional guides , we can t go with you into sites, is against the law

Marcus was a great tour...
Marcus was a great tour guide and rolled with the punches even considering that his company didn't forward him all of the necessary information he needed. Good job Marcus and be blessed my friend!
Response from the operator: thank you very much for your review :)

Misinformed
Our tour guide Italo was amazing! Viator, however did not disclose an additional 120 euros when we were picked up at the port. I was told by the Viator representative that the amount charged at the time was the total amount for the excursion. When I called to discuss they were not helpful and said that’s the policy. I took too prior excursions booked through them the same week, there were no added port charges to them.
Response from the operator: hello, very sorry for the misundurstanding , this tour is with pick up in Roma , the pick up at the port Civitavecchia is extra 120 euro

Why this scores 56
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Rome Highlights Private Day Tour by Mercedes Minivan: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Rome.
How much does Rome Highlights Private Day Tour by Mercedes Minivan cost?
+
Prices start at $399 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Rome usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Rome Highlights Private Day Tour by Mercedes Minivan take?
+
Plan for about 5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Rome is not rushed.
Is Rome Highlights Private Day Tour by Mercedes Minivan worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 56 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 20 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Rome, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Rome Highlights Private Day Tour by Mercedes Minivan?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Rome Highlights Private Day Tour by Mercedes Minivan suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Rome Highlights Private Day Tour by Mercedes Minivan?
+
Around 7 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Rome can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Rome and add a light layer if any part of the 5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Rome Highlights Private Day Tour by Mercedes Minivan start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Rome within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Rome?
+
Rome runs on skip-the-line access. The Colosseum underground, the Vatican before opening, and the catacombs south of the walls all require a licensed operator, and the price gap between the good ones and the rest is smaller than you would expect. We rank by guide credentials, group size and how reliably the promised access actually materialises. On Outty we rank every Rome experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Rome Pasta and Tiramisu Class: Ravioli, Fettuccine & Fine Wine 5*, Pasta Making & Wine Tasting with Dinner in Frascati from Rome, Rome: Pizza & Tiramisu or Gelato Class with Flowing Fine Wine 5*. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Rome?
+
April, May, September and October. August is hot and half the city is shut. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Rome?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
