Walking Through History: The Colosseum, Roman Forum & Palatine Hill
Our guide, George, took us on a comprehensive tour, expertly navigating us through the crowded spaces while sharing fascinating insights into the history of ancient Rome. He highlighted the remarkable engineering behind these structures, which is still impressive by today’s standards. I mean, the fact that so much of the Colosseum has remained standing for nearly 2,000 years is a testament to the ingenuity and craftsmanship of the ancient Romans. We started at Palatine Hill and the Roman Forum before stepping onto the Colosseum’s Arena Floor, an incredible experience that brings history to life and gives you a sense of the grandeur of ancient Rome. Be prepared for extensive walking, including plenty of steep steps, and allow about three hours for the tour.

Colosseum/Palatine Hill tour
A lot of walking. Most of the tour is of Palatine hill with less than an hour at the Colosseum. Our guide walked super fast, which was fine for us, but several members got left behind and he had to circle back to get them.

4th got thrown to the lions
The tour itself was excellent; however, the operator did not include my additional booking and advised me to contact Viator, stating that Viator had not notified them. I contacted Viator, and they confirmed that they had emailed the operator on May 23, five months earlier. My Viator app showed that four tickets had been paid for, but the tour operator’s records listed only three. Both parties blamed each other, and the fourth member of our group was left without a place on the tour.
