Interesting but not the best
Interesting place, but rather crowded. Ferry not very comfortable, but video was educative. Also my visit was postponed by technical issues by 2 hours and communication with provider should be better too.

Book directly with Robben Island Museum
The tour of Robben Island itself is brilliant and something every young person should learn about. The talk by the ex-prisoner is inspiring. My advice, however, would be to go and get your tickets directly from Robben Island Museum. The tour company we booked through via Viator literally doubled the price, turned up to say hello, made sure we had our tickets and gave us some bottles of water and that was it. They should be ashamed..
Response from the operator: Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are very pleased to hear that you found the Robben Island experience and the inspiring talk by the former political prisoner meaningful. We are sorry that you feel our service did not provide the value you expected. Our experience is designed for guests who prefer the convenience and assistance of a pre-arranged service rather than managing the ticketing and meeting arrangements themselves. Our service included: * Pre-booking and securing your Robben Island tickets in advance * Meeting and personal assistance from our local representative * Guidance at the designated meeting point and assistance before departure * Ensuring guests have the correct tickets and know where to go * Additional guest convenience items, including bottled water * Support and assistance with the booking and tour arrangements We understand that some travellers may prefer to purchase tickets directly from Robben Island Museum, while others value the convenience, support, and personal assistance provided through our experience. We appreciate your feedback and will continue working to ensure that our product description clearly explains exactly what guests can expect and the services included. We also encourage future guests to carefully review the full experience details and inclusions before booking so they can choose the option that best suits their preferences. Thank you again for travelling with us, and we are glad that the Robben Island experience itself was memorable and meaningful for you.

Should do when in Cape Town
The Robben Island is a very good educational tour. The tour guide to the prison was a former prisoner and he shared memories with us....some of them very painful and makes you sad.
Response from the operator: Dear Guest, Thank you very much for taking the time to share your experience with us. We are delighted to hear that you found the Robben Island tour educational and meaningful. Hearing the personal stories of a former political prisoner is truly one of the most powerful parts of the experience, offering a unique and emotional insight into South Africa’s history and the struggle for freedom. We appreciate your kind words and are pleased that we could assist with the pre-booked tickets and make your visit more convenient. Thank you for choosing KJA Tours, and we hope to welcome you back to Cape Town for another memorable experience in the future. Kind regards, Joseph Alphonse Kabera Director | KJA Tours

Warning: third-party involvement without our knowledge and 90 minutes worth of problems
Without us, knowing, Viator arranged our tickets through a third-party person, not at the location of the boat ticket office. We were sent vouchers, but not tickets, and those vouchers were not good at the ticket window. With 90 minutes of effort, we had to go through via track down the third-party ticket merchant who casually walked into the lobby and proceeded to tell us we booked it all wrong and demanded 25 more dollars from each of us. We came to the boat two hours early so we could enjoy the museum, and all I can say is a good thing. I have used it many times and now will be much more careful about choosing their services.
Response from the operator: Dear Guest, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations. After reviewing your booking, we found that the reservation was made under the South African Citizen ticket option. This option is clearly marked and is strictly reserved for South African citizens who can present a valid South African ID at check-in. Unfortunately, international visitors are not eligible to use these tickets, and the ferry operator will deny entry if the incorrect ticket type is booked. When an incorrect ticket category is selected, it must be upgraded to the correct international ticket before travel, which is why an additional payment was required. This is a requirement of the ferry operator and not an extra charge imposed by our team. For future bookings, we kindly encourage all guests to carefully select the ticket option that matches their nationality and eligibility. Choosing the correct ticket type helps avoid delays, additional charges, or denied boarding on the day of travel. We appreciate your feedback and remain committed to providing accurate information and assisting all guests throughout the booking process. Kind regards, KJA Tours

Why this scores 61
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Robben Island Tour: Pre-Booked Tickets, Meeting Point & Transfers: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Cape Town.
How much does Robben Island Tour: Pre-Booked Tickets, Meeting Point & Transfers cost?
+
Prices start at $56 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Cape Town usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Robben Island Tour: Pre-Booked Tickets, Meeting Point & Transfers take?
+
Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Cape Town is not rushed.
Is Robben Island Tour: Pre-Booked Tickets, Meeting Point & Transfers worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 61 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.2/5 across 56 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Cape Town, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Robben Island Tour: Pre-Booked Tickets, Meeting Point & Transfers?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Robben Island Tour: Pre-Booked Tickets, Meeting Point & Transfers suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Robben Island Tour: Pre-Booked Tickets, Meeting Point & Transfers?
+
Around 20 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Cape Town can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Cape Town and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Robben Island Tour: Pre-Booked Tickets, Meeting Point & Transfers start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Cape Town within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Cape Town?
+
On Outty we rank every Cape Town experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Cape of Good Hope and Boulders Penguins Day Tour from Cape Town, Table Mountain, Boulders Penguins and Cape point Day Tour, Wine Tour: Paarl, Franschhoek & Stellenbosch incl 3 wineries. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Cape Town?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Cape Town?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
