    Fun experience

Rio Secreto was amazing. Really cool experience. Jen was a great guide. Transportation was great. Would have liked a better idea of pickup. Everything said 7;30 but they showed up at 7 and we didn’t have a chance to eat breakfast.

Great trip to Coba and Rio Secreto on May 18th, 2026!

Hello. We booked our Coba and Rio Secreto tour through our Amstar Rep., Omar, who was at the Barcelo Maya Colonial. Omar was great, got us a good price, and set it for Monday May 18th. They were on time to pick us up with a minor glitch but we went to Rio Secreto fist. Our guide was Aaron and he was fantastic. This was my first time going to RS and Aaron gave us great direction, safety issues, and helped anyone who needed any extra help. My wife and I are at the 70 mark so she and another lady close to our age needed some extra safety support. Safety was a key for Aaron which we all appreciated. For all newcomers there, they provide lockers (you carry the key around your neck), towels, wet suits, and water shoes. You do NOT have to wear the wet suit if you choose not to, and, you can bring your own wet shoes if you choose. Plus, they provide a lamp helmet for underground. Caution, a lot of the ground in the water cave is uneven so you have to drag your feet and pay close attention to drop offs. Our guide was on top of everything telling us ever facet during the underground water tour. We were underground for maybe 45 min and when changed into dry clothes, we had a very nice 30 min. break at a covered buffet lunch there. Our driver to Coba was Louis who was fun to talk to and he had a great sense of humor. Took us maybe an hour plus to get to Coba. This was my 3rd trip to Coba in less than 20 years and had two other guides who were good. Aaron was the best I've seen so far. I had climbed the ruins twice but this year I did not, as well as my wife. Just too dangerous at our age, but we had a great time talking to Aaron our guide, other folks. Aaron stayed with us the entire time and gave us great overviews of the smaller ruins on the return bike ride back to the ruins entrance. BTW, bikes come with the tour so you need to be able to go the distance which is about 15 minutes riding in the jungle to get to the main ruins. My wife did not want to ride a bike so we hired a driver, Jose, for about $13.00 plus tips, to drive us on a 2-seat tricycle. We had ample time to enjoy the ruins, spend a few min. in the gift shop, restrooms, etc.; they gave us bottle water, most important, you were allowed to bring your own water into the park comparted to the very intrusive policies present to visit Tulum (we were there in Sept. 2025), where they do not allow you bring any type of plastic water into the park there. Coba is much more relaxed Overall, Coba was the better excursion for us and we did enjoy Rio Secreto. I doubt we would return to RS but we got it off our bucket list. I doubt I would get tired of Coba, very rich in history and.....sometimes you see wildlife in the jungle. This trip we did not. Once again, we were very thankful to our Amstar Rep. at Barcelo Maya Colonial, Omar, our Guide, Aaron, and our driver - Louis. We hope you visit Coba and Rio Secreto in the future! Mr. and Mrs. K. Mango (our Alias)

Response from the operator: Dear Explorer, Thank you very much for sharing such a detailed review about your experience with us! We are happy to know that you enjoyed this combined adventure and that both Río Secreto and Cobá were part of a memorable day during your vacation. We are especially excited to read your words about Aaron. We will be happy to share your message with him; we are sure he will love knowing that his professionalism, attention to safety and constant support made you and your wife enjoy the experience with confidence and tranquility. 🌀✨ We also appreciate your kind comments about Louis and the service received throughout the tour. Our goal is for every explorer to feel accompanied from the beginning to the end of their adventure. We are pleased to know that you appreciated the facilities provided during the visit and that you were able to enjoy the historical and cultural wealth of Cobá at your own pace. We sincerely appreciate the time you took to share your recommendations and experiences with future travelers. Comments like yours are a great help for those who want to know more about these adventures. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you again in the future to continue exploring the natural and cultural wonders of the Riviera Maya. Greetings. 🙌🏻

Rio Secreto and Coba Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Cancun.

How much does Rio Secreto and Coba Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $110 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Cancun usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Rio Secreto and Coba Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 10 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Cancun is not rushed.

Is Rio Secreto and Coba Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 70 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.7/5 across 37 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Cancun, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Rio Secreto and Coba Tour?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Rio Secreto and Coba Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 10-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Rio Secreto and Coba Tour?

    +

Around 13 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Cancun can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Cancun and add a light layer if any part of the 10-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Rio Secreto and Coba Tour start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Cancun within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Cancun?

    +

On Outty we rank every Cancun experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Early Access to Chichen Itza All Inclusive with Valladolid and Cenote Swim, Whale Shark Tour from Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Tulum and Riviera Maya, Small-Group 3 Hidden Cenotes Adventure with Tequila Tasting. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Cancun?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Cancun?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
