Fabulous day out from Sofia
A fabulous day out from Sofia! Experience was great from the beginning, with clear instructions and advice received the evening prior. Monastery is an incredibly special place - very unique. Poor weather set in soon after with heavy rain and cloud around the mountain, causing us to change plans and spend the afternoon at the mineral spa baths (instead of our original intent to visit Rila Lakes). This was by no means a disappointment as the baths were a delighful treat. A big thank you to our tour leader Apostolos who looked after, informed and entertained us throughout.

Disappointing
the tour was very disappointing. Our guide Phillip was not professional, didn't give us any information about the Monastery and complained a lot. The spa was more expensive than we were told and required 50 EU cash deposit, which we didn't have.

Wonderful relaxing day
This was a great day. Apostolos was a very safe driver and ensured that we had assistance with details such as knowing where less crowded restrooms could be located, ensuring that we had entry to the spa complex when we arrived, and pointing out interesting cultural details about the return of spring to Bulgaria. On the way to the monastery we we even stopped at a small cafe to have a quick coffee, which really helped with making the day feel like a complete experience at a relaxing pace while still having plenty of time at the intended stops. After the tour he sent us recommendations for food, drinks, etc. that were based on our conversations during the tour. I highly recommend this tour.

Nice but more expensive in the end
Apostolos, our driver, was very nice. Everything was punctual and the day developed as described. The monastery is beautiful and the spa very complete and relaxing. Thank you for a wonderful day! My 3 stars are due to the price of the spa. Be aware that the price of the spa on the weekends is not the one announced in the description. To enter the inner and outer pools with bathrobe rental costs 51 euros per person. The cheapest entrance was 30 euros just for the outer pools and no bathrobe. You need to leave 20 euros deposit in cash at the entrance for locker key and bracelet. This should be corrected because the price in the end is higher than expected.

Disappointed - Tickets were for transport only and didn't get any time at the beautiful monastery
Wish this would have been advertised as transport only. Tour guide didn't give us any information on the place, no history of the country or region. Didn't engage with us at all. It was just a trip to and from. Had I known that I wouldn't have paid €50 for the bus and an additional €20 for the spa entry, I would have just rented my own car. Only spent 45 minutes at the monastery but wasted 5 hours in a small town with nothing to do.

Why this scores 70
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Rila Monastery and Hot Mineral Bath Spa Complex Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Sofia.
How much does Rila Monastery and Hot Mineral Bath Spa Complex Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $70 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Sofia usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Rila Monastery and Hot Mineral Bath Spa Complex Tour take?
+
Plan for about 11 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Sofia is not rushed.
Is Rila Monastery and Hot Mineral Bath Spa Complex Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 70 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.6/5 across 34 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Sofia, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Rila Monastery and Hot Mineral Bath Spa Complex Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Rila Monastery and Hot Mineral Bath Spa Complex Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 11-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Rila Monastery and Hot Mineral Bath Spa Complex Tour?
+
Around 12 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Sofia can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Sofia and add a light layer if any part of the 11-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Rila Monastery and Hot Mineral Bath Spa Complex Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Sofia within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Sofia?
+
On Outty we rank every Sofia experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Communist Walking Tour of Sofia, Sofia Highlights 2 Hour Sightseeing Walking Tour, Sofia Escape Room - Teorema Rooms. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Sofia?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Sofia?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
