Tours in Rijeka not to be missed!
What a cool Rijeka Food Tour I did in March 2025! I was in town alone, looking for something different to do in the afternoon. Roberta, the guide, is a bombshell: she knows everything from the story of Rijeka—like she was Italian for a long time and a republic, too. We tasted a lot of delicious appetizers, and there was also a platter with local cheeses and truffle salami which was a fairy tale. Roberta told me that Istria, near Motovun, is famous for truffles thanks to its forest. The group was small, so we chatted easy, and the market we saw was very nice, full of life. For those traveling alone like me, it was a top day: Thank you for sharing little curiosities and great food.

An inspiring culinary journey through Rijeka
An inspiring culinary journey through Rijeka My wife and I, both passionate connoisseurs, recently took the Rijeka Food Tour as a couple, and I, as a chef, was particularly curious about the gastronomic aspect. Although our guide Roberta is not a trained restaurateur, the tour was incredibly fascinating and inspiring. My wife is from Croatia, and I have been to Rijeka several times, but the information we received about the city really impressed me. I was particularly fascinated by the historical importance of the fish market – it is rich in fresh fish and seafood, and the variety of blue fish such as sardines and anchovies surprised me positively. Not only are these affordable, but they are also prepared in imaginative recipes that have aroused my curiosity as a chef. The tour offered a wonderful mix of history and cuisine. I found the story of Rijeka’s connection to water – from the rivers to the sea – particularly remarkable. It's amazing that this story isn't more heavily marketed as the city's trademark. A small wish on my part as a beer lover would have been to taste local beers, as this would have rounded off the tour. Nevertheless, the experience was enriching all around, and I would highly recommend the tour to anyone who wants to discover Rijeka from a new perspective.
Response from the operator: Sehr geehrter Bernhard, herzlichen Dank für Ihre ausführliche und herzliche Bewertung! Herzliche Grüße, Sanja, Idealab Travel&Tours =========================== Dear Guest, Thank you for your detailed and heartfelt review! We’re thrilled to hear that you and your wife enjoyed the Rijeka Food Tour and that Roberta brought the culinary and historical richness of Rijeka to life for you. Fun family walk in Rijeka
We visited Rijeka with our family last month and decided to join the Rijeka Food Tour, what a fantastic experience! The best part was that it’s a walking tour, so everything was easy to get to on foot. We didn’t need to worry about transport, and we still got to see and feel so much of the city. The kids loved wandering through the streets, and it was great for us to soak in the atmosphere without rushing. One highlight was learning about the famous Rigoianci cake. Our guide shared the romantic story behind it—how it’s tied to a Hungarian violinist and his love story, and how it became a Rijeka classic. It was extra special because we visited the Hotel Continental, where the cake was first created. Tasting it there felt like stepping back in time! I’m kicking myself for not taking a photo of the cake—it was so good—but I looked it up online later and even found a recipe to try at home. The tour was packed with little moments like this—history, food, and culture all mixed together. If you’re in Rijeka with family, this walking tour is a must-do.
Response from the operator: Dear Guest, Thank you for your wonderful review and for sharing such a delightful family adventure! We’re over the moon to hear that our Rijeka Food Tour was a hit with both the kids and grown-ups. It’s amazing how a leisurely walk can weave together so many of Rijeka’s charms—no transport hassles, just pure city vibes! We love that the Rigojanči cake stole the show with its romantic backstory. Isn’t it incredible how a bite of history at Hotel Continental can feel like time travel? No worries about missing that cake photo—now you’ve got the perfect excuse to whip up your own Rigojanči at home and snap a pic then! If you’d like the original recipe, just reach out, and I’ll do my best to track it down for you. We’re thrilled the tour sprinkled your family’s day with those special history-food-culture moments. Can’t wait to welcome you all back for another tasty stroll with Idealab Travel&Tours! Warmest regards, Sanja, Idealab Travel&Tours
