    local tour company not vetted

Viator let the local company run a scam and refused to reimburse me. I will never use them again. I booked a this trip last night, i get a text about 30 minutes later from someone claiming to be viator customer service, saying that I should cancel the trip because the tour company wasn’t verified. How did they get my number? I called viator and they said that they would call the tour company and get back to me. I get another text from the same number this morning saying that my trip was canceled. I immediately call viator, at that point I’m concerned for my safety if I continue. Viator said that they would cancel and investigate. I then get an email saying that they would not reimburse me!!! I will never use viator again. The scam was….the company wanted me to cancel with less than 24 hours so that they could keep the money.

Response from the operator: We’re sorry to hear about your experience and appreciate the chance to respond. We want to clarify that at no point did our company send you a text message asking you to cancel your booking. You mentioned that the message came from someone claiming to be from our team, stating we were not a verified provider and advising you to cancel. This is simply not true. We take these accusations seriously and asked for a copy of the message so we could investigate—however, no evidence was provided. Additionally, on the day of the scheduled tour, our licensed driver arrived at your hotel at the agreed time and called to let you know he was waiting at the entrance. You responded that you were dealing with an issue and would follow up, but no further communication was received. The driver remained on-site, prepared to deliver the tour. We want to assure future travelers that we are a verified and vetted Viator operator, and guest safety and satisfaction are our top priorities. We encourage all customers to use official Viator communication channels to prevent misinformation or interference from third parties. Because our team fulfilled all obligations and was ready to provide the service, the cancellation fell within Viator’s policy window where refunds may not apply. We truly regret the confusion and hope this helps clarify what occurred.

What should I bring or wear?

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
