    Not so magical

Booked through Get Your Guide (Feb 2026), which was probably a mistake (should have booked direct for, I imagine, better service). A few days before the trip, I was notified that some of the reindeer were sick and I was not going to be able to do the reindeer sledding portion. Disappointing, yes, but it's what's best for the deer. They gave a partial refund. When we got on the bus, I was surprised they were handing out wristbands for people who were doing the sledding portion. Between the 2 buses, there were still 2 groups of people selected to do the sledding. It seemed like since I booked 3rd party, I was cut from what I was hoping to be the highlight of the tour. On arrival, we met in the lavvu where the guide talked, split up the groups, and we went on our way to the paddock to feed. We each got a bucket with pellets, fed the cute deer, took pics - they were pretty relaxed. These reindeer were smaller than expected (compared to the Cairngorm reindeer in Scotland). To top it off, there was a large group of obnoxious international students throwing snowballs (picking up snow both in and out of where the deer were penned, probably laced with urine and feces). We went to use the restrooms, which were in wooden structures, and not kept clean. There was urine all over the floor and toilet seats - I took one look and decided to hold it until Tromso. Then I had difficulty unlocking the door and was temporarily stuck inside. We had lunch in the lavvu, which consisted of reindeer or vegetable soup, bread, butter, and powdered hot chocolate - it was ok. The guides talked about the Sami culture, passed around some artifacts, and answered questions. The tour guides were nice and the demonstration interesting, but the day had been soured by everything else. My husband still had a good time for his first reindeer experience.

Response from the operator: Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. We're sorry to hear that your experience didn't meet your expectations, especially since the reindeer sledding was something you were most looking forward to. The decision to reduce sledding was made to prioritize the health and welfare of our reindeer, and while we understand how disappointing this was, their wellbeing must always come first. We're also sorry that seeing some sledding still taking place caused confusion and disappointment. Because only a limited number of healthy reindeer were able to participate, we had to significantly reduce the number of sledding spots available. To manage this fairly, the most recent bookings were the ones affected by the cancellation, regardless of whether they were made directly with us or through a third-party booking platform. We understand how frustrating this must have been, especially when reindeer sledding was the highlight you were looking forward to. We're also disappointed to hear about the condition of the restrooms and the behavior of other visitors. Neither reflects the experience we aim to provide. Your comments have been shared with our team so we can reinforce our cleaning routines and monitor guest behavior more closely where possible. We're pleased that you enjoyed meeting and feeding the reindeer, found our guides welcoming, and appreciated learning about Sami culture. It also means a lot to hear that your husband still had a positive first reindeer experience. Thank you again for your honest feedback. Reviews like yours help us identify where we need to improve, and we hope you'll consider visiting us again in the future under better circumstances.

    Wonderful afternoon

The reindeer were lovely. How gentle these animals are! Of course, as we had food for them, there was a lot of interest :) After a break with hot food and tea/coffee, we could learn more about the life of and with reindeer, but also about the culture of Sámi people. All in all, a very good experience. PS. Due to weather conditions, the sledding part of the experience was cancelled and reimbursed. I was given the opportunity to cancel the whole tour but I decided to join it anyway, as I was mostly interested in interacting with the reindeer and learning more about the Sámi culture. I am very glad I did!

Response from the operator: What a wonderful review! We are absolutely thrilled you enjoyed spending time with our reindeer herd. They truly are the stars of the show! It sounds like feeding them by hand was a highlight. We take great care of our animals, and it’s wonderful to see the joy they bring our visitors. Thank you again for visiting Tromsø Lapland.

    +

Prices start at $243 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Tromso usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Reindeer Sledding & Feeding with Sámi Culture in Tromso take?

    +

Is Reindeer Sledding & Feeding with Sámi Culture in Tromso worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 76 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.6/5 across 218 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Tromso, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Reindeer Sledding & Feeding with Sámi Culture in Tromso?

    +

    +

Around 76 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Tromso can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Tromso and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

What are the best things to do in Tromso?

    +

On Outty we rank every Tromso experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Northern Lights Minibus Chase from Tromsø with Chasing Lights, Northern Lights Big Bus Chase with Chasing Lights, Tromsø Northern Lights Chase We Go Where The Lights Appear. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Tromso?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Tromso?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
