  1. Basilica di Sant'Apollinare Nuovo

This is the Ravenna basilica with the largest mosaic area of the early Christian era; here the ghost of the Gothic king Theoderic still lingers, who stopped here and wanted the palatine chapel

  2. Dante's Tomb

Of all the famous Italians in the world, perhaps the best known remains Dante Alighieri, who spent many years of his life here and here he composed Paradise, at the end of his Comedy, certainly inspired by the magnificent mosaics of Ravenna and its atmospheres a little noir.

20 minutes here · Admission included

  3. Mausoleo di Galla Placidia

It is the city treasure, which contains the early Christian mosaics in the most beautiful glass paste in the world

10 minutes here · Admission not included

  4. Basilica di San Vitale

This octagonal temple of the sixth century is a true hymn to life, starting from its dedication to the Holy martyr Vitale. Its dome, object of study of the greatest architects of the world, from Brunelleschi to Palladio, from Antonio da Sangallo the Younger to Le Corbusier, makes pendant with the perhaps most famous mosaics of the city: those that represent the emperor Justinian and his wife Teodora, muse of many more or less contemporary artists, from Gustave Klimt to Karl Lagerfeld, from Christian Lacroix to many other masters of style and refinement.

Ravenna-so underrated destination

Where to start? Elisa was most charming educated and accommodating! I have wanted to explore mosaics for 50 years plus and was totally overwhelmed to the point I want to comeback and send a sizable hunk of time just exploring more of the very numerous aspects of Ravenna.. Loved loved loved 🥰

Excellent guided tour.

Wonderful guide, Rita Bertesi, extremely knowledgeable, and most important, still excited about her job. Will recommend it.

Response from the operator: Good morning. Thank you! We are delighted that you appreciated the guide Rita. We will pass the message on to her, and we hope to see you again in our region.

Fabulous tour - highly recommend

Our tour with Sylvia, introducing us to the marvels of Ravenna, gave us a wonderful look at the long and complex history of this important city. Her passion and deep understanding was combined with gentle humour which gave us an awareness of the rich storytelling of history through these extraordinary mosaics. The planning of the tour was perfect, with the opportunity to see a contemporary artist demonstrating the skill required to produce both traditional and modern styles with mosaics. The timing of Sylvia’s tour left us with plenty to explore further before returning to Bologna.

Ravenna, the Most Beautiful Mosaics in the City of Paradise: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Ravenna.

How much does Ravenna, the Most Beautiful Mosaics in the City of Paradise cost?

+

Prices start at $171 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Ravenna usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Ravenna, the Most Beautiful Mosaics in the City of Paradise take?

+

Plan for about 2.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Ravenna is not rushed.

Is Ravenna, the Most Beautiful Mosaics in the City of Paradise worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 74 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 94 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Ravenna, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Ravenna, the Most Beautiful Mosaics in the City of Paradise?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Ravenna, the Most Beautiful Mosaics in the City of Paradise suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Ravenna, the Most Beautiful Mosaics in the City of Paradise?

+

Around 33 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Ravenna can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Ravenna and add a light layer if any part of the 2.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Ravenna, the Most Beautiful Mosaics in the City of Paradise start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Ravenna within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Ravenna?

+

On Outty we rank every Ravenna experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Guided Tour of Mosaic Tiles in Ravenna, Ravenna: Mosaics and Highlights Guided Tour with Admission Ticket, Private Tour in Siena, San Gimignano and Chianti Day Trip from Florence. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Ravenna?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Ravenna?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
