    Would not recommend

The on site staff here was incredibly kind and I feel for them. Its clear they care about the visitors and the animals on site however it is also clear that ownership/management does not. We visited the ranch in Jaco on a Monday last month for the horseback riding tour to the waterfall. 3 Families, ages ranging from 5 to 44 and a child with Autism, as this is advertised to be a safe activity for all children 2+, per their website. We never even got a chance to get our whole group loaded onto the horses before we requested to end the service due to the behavior and condition of some of the horses. Before even getting on the horses a few of us in the group noted that they looked to be very skinny and in rough shape. After loading a few of the adults and children onto the horses, with staff assistance, it became clear that this was not going to be a safe experience for our children. As soon as the first two horses were loaded with an adult and child they began pulling and becoming restless near one another and thats when the first kick happened. One of the horses kicked the other and the one that was kicked bucked, while both were loaded with people and children on them. This already set off two of the kids that were already on the saddles and they began to cry and were nervous about remaining on the horses. The staff assured us that this wouldn't happen again and that these two just became too close to one another (these horses are supposed to be right behind one another on the trails...). We continued to load a few more members of our group and thats when myself and my daughter loaded onto one of the smaller horses. As soon as we were on the saddle the horse began pulling and trying to graze in another area near the other already loaded horses and thats when the second kick happened. The larger horse that kicked the first time approached our horse and kicked it on its side right next to my and my daughters legs. Our horse began bleeding, more of the children that were just being loaded onto their horses began crying and did not want to continue on with the tour as they were scared this was going to keep happening. At this point, we did not feel it was safe to continue and decided to ask to stop with the service, we did not ever start the trail to the waterfall. The staff was kind and began helping us off the horses and that is when they offered for us to speak with the owner about potentially switching to a different tour using the ATV's instead. Only one person in our group spoke spanish so they handed the phone to him to sort it out ourselves with the owner. Unfortunately they could not accommodate our entire group that day on the ATV's or any other day for the remainder of our time in Jaco as we were leaving Wednesday. The other options they offered to us we could not do with our child who is autistic (waterfall repelling, night tour, etc). This is when we requested a refund and were told that was not possible because we had already been rendered the service we paid for and they would not return our money when other options had been offered as well. This was overall a very disappointing experience and I wish I would have seen the reviews from years ago that show that this has been happening for a while now...They could have handled this better and I would not recommend this place or tour for families.

    Unsafe and bad management.

This is not a safe tour. We booked this tour for 13 of our friends and family. We arrived at the location and the staff was very friendly and helpful. While they were helping us load on to the horses one of the horses kicked the horse my daughter and girlfriend were and almost kicked my daughter. The children were scared after that and we asked for a different tour which they could not accommodate. We then asked for a refund and were told no. We left without doing the tour. After we left the owner threatened to us for defamation if we wrote a bad review. Management of this establishment does not care for the safety or health of their horses or customers. The onsite staff is very friendly and I feel bad for the situation they are put in.

    Wonderful time on the horses

Did the horseback ride with 2 kids that are 8 and one 12 year old and we had a great time. I wasn't sure the 8 year olds would be ready for the waterfall repelling so chose this one. Everyone, especially the kids loved it. The kids fell in love with their horses and they were extremely well trained so the little ones did not have to worry too much about doing it right. they didn't rush us at all and we enjoyed plenty of time at the waterfall, taking pictures and wading in the water. It was dry season when we went so crossing the rivers was more like small streams but i imagine during wet season their would be more water. Really beautiful jungle on the way in and out- they do like a loop so you don't come back the same way you went in and therefore get to see even more. There was not a lot of "tour" in terms of pointing out nature but we saw plenty of birds just by looking around.

    Waterfall- Horseback Adventure

The guides were very nice and helpful. Water would have been nice as it was so hot out - should have been offered before the ride and also at the waterfall. All in all, we had a great time. Transportation to and from could have been nicer. The cars were rather small for 6 people.

Response from the operator: Thank you for your review. We will take your suggestions into consideration. We hope that you come back to enjoy our new and exciting attraction planned for 2025. Happy and safe travels.

Rainforest Magic Horseback Riding Waterfall Tour Private Park Setting: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Jaco.

How much does Rainforest Magic Horseback Riding Waterfall Tour Private Park Setting cost?

    +

Prices start at $75 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Jaco usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Rainforest Magic Horseback Riding Waterfall Tour Private Park Setting take?

    +

Plan for about 2 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Jaco is not rushed.

Is Rainforest Magic Horseback Riding Waterfall Tour Private Park Setting worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 60 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.3/5 across 58 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Jaco, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Rainforest Magic Horseback Riding Waterfall Tour Private Park Setting?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Rainforest Magic Horseback Riding Waterfall Tour Private Park Setting suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Rainforest Magic Horseback Riding Waterfall Tour Private Park Setting?

    +

Around 20 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Jaco can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Jaco and add a light layer if any part of the 2-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Rainforest Magic Horseback Riding Waterfall Tour Private Park Setting start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Jaco within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Jaco?

    +

On Outty we rank every Jaco experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Arenal Volcano, La Fortuna Waterfall, Hot Springs Combo Tour with Lunch & Dinner, Jason Crocodile Tours, Jaco Beach Costa Rica Horseback Riding. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Jaco?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Jaco?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
