They Made My Quetzal Dream Happen!
This was hands-down one of the most magical experiences of my entire life!! Jason picked us up before sunrise and brought us high into the mountains to search for the Resplendent Quetzal, a true bucket-list bird for me. When we finally spotted it, I was completely in awe. Jason and Michael were knowledgeable, kind, and clearly so passionate about what they do. It was also lovely to meet Michael and learn about the important work he does with local farmers to help protect the Quetzals. At one point, while we were trying to get into position to see the Quetzal, they even helped me carefully climb a hill so I wouldn’t miss the sighting. That meant so much to me. I felt completely taken care of the entire time. My brother (a non-birder!) came with me and ended up having a spectacular time too. I honestly think he’s caught the birding bug. After we found the Quetzal, we stopped at two beautiful cafes where we saw tons of lifers. The hummingbirds alone were worth the trip! Jason also helped us capture incredible photos and videos, and took us to a delicious breakfast and lunch along the way. If you’re thinking about booking a birding tour in Costa Rica and hoping for a chance to see the Resplendent Quetzal, this is the one. Seriously, this is a “once-in-a-lifetime” kind of a tour. (Although I definitely plan on coming back!!)

Great day on the quest for the Quetzals
It was my favorite day during the trip! Saw several Quetzals and other birds. Got several good pictures and videos. Jason and Michael were wonderful guides! Had a great day! Jason even gave me a bonus at the end of the tour by stopping at El Rey Playa where i took many pictures of more species of birds! I definitely recommand Wáköö tours for birdwatchers and photographers!

Quetzals with a true bird enthusiast
It was so nice to drive up to this cloud forest with Jason. He makes everyone feel at home with coffee and snacks. Seeing these birds in the wild was a truly amazing experience. The guide is essential as they know just where to go. We saw many other birds too and enjoyed great food and views.

Awesome!
This trip is a must for bird watchers. Our hope was to see a quetzal. We saw 3 males and one female. Besides the quetzal we saw 74 other species of birds. Our guide, Jason, took such good care of us—carefully scheduling breakfast and lunch in between hikes. His knowledge of birds and ability to spot them was amazing. What an awesome experience!
Response from the operator: Hola Michael I want to take a moment to thank you for your kind words about me as a tour guide and the experience that you had with me at the national park. These words always fill up my passion and encourage me to continue learning and trying every day to provide a better experience. Muchas Gracias See you again here in Costa Rica Jason

The best tour of all
This I think is one of the most expensive tours Wáköö tours offers. However it is well worth the money as it is a long day and the area is about 2,5-3 hours away from Quepos (where I was staying). It was the best tour I had with Wáköö tours. The area is just gorgeous, temperature is more moderate (started with 6 degrees Celsius, this went up to about 20 during the day). There was little humidity, so circumstances are excellent for bird watching. The guide, Jason knew where to go and within half an hour we saw the first quetzal, the main prize! But we saw more quetzals in the morning.....beautiful! Jason explained a lot about the different kinds of birds we saw that day. It was just nothing less than a perfect tour! Can fully recommend this if you want see these fantastic rare birds.

Quetzal Birdwatching Experience at San Gerardo De Dota Private Tour.: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Quepos.
How much does Quetzal Birdwatching Experience at San Gerardo De Dota Private Tour. cost?
+
Prices start at $351 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Quepos usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Quetzal Birdwatching Experience at San Gerardo De Dota Private Tour. take?
+
Plan for about 10 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Quepos is not rushed.
Is Quetzal Birdwatching Experience at San Gerardo De Dota Private Tour. worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 61 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 6 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Quepos, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Quetzal Birdwatching Experience at San Gerardo De Dota Private Tour.?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Quetzal Birdwatching Experience at San Gerardo De Dota Private Tour. suitable for kids and families?
+
The operator sets a minimum age of 12. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 10-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book Quetzal Birdwatching Experience at San Gerardo De Dota Private Tour.?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Quepos can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Quepos and add a light layer if any part of the 10-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Quetzal Birdwatching Experience at San Gerardo De Dota Private Tour. start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Quepos within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Quepos?
+
On Outty we rank every Quepos experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Whitewater Rafting Savegre Class II-III plus Waterfall Manuel Antonio, Manuel Antonio Canopy Tour - Longest Twin Zip Line in Central America, Waterfall Ziplining & Canyoning. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Quepos?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Quepos?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
