    Pass by without stopping

    Pass by without stopping

  3. Devil's Staircase Lookout Point

    Pass by without stopping

  4. Te Anau

After more amazing mountain, river and farmland views we arrive in Te Anau, home to Lake Te Anau, New Zealand’s second largest lake. While in this idyllic town we will stop for a 30 minute break, so you can stretch your legs, have your morning coffee, and something to eat, and maybe meet some of the local animals or wildlife! Continuing along the lake we stop at Te Anau Downs, the starting point for the Milford Track, to hear the stories and admire the views.

    30 minutes here

  5. Leaving Te Anau and entering Fiordland National Park we stop in Eglinton Valley. With views worthy of Lord of the Rings, this valley follows the path of an ancient glacier through Fiordland. One of the first major attractions as you enter the park, it really sets the scene for a journey that only get more impressive the deeper you get.

    10 minutes here

  6. Mirror Lakes Walk

Our next stop on this epic adventure is Mirror Lakes for a short stroll to see the famous reflections of the Earl Mountains. Get the right day, take a good picture and no one with be able to tell which way is the right way up for the photo.

    Pass by without stopping

  9. Climbing in altitude we go deeper into the Darran Mountains and these views require another stop to admire and take photos. We are also entering the area where Kea (the world’s largest alpine parrot) like to live. Start keeping an eye out for these large, cheeky and colourful birds that never fail to thrill and entertain when found.

    10 minutes here

  10. Homer Tunnel

To make our way back down towards the sea we enter the mind-blowing hand-built Homer Tunnel, hearing the incredible history and stories. Emerging from the tunnel the valley descends sharply towards Milford Sound and on a rainy-day you will see hundreds of waterfalls cascading down the mountain side.

    Pass by without stopping

Following the valleys to the sea we arrive at Milford Sound where you will board your cruise with one of our incredible cruise partners. This experience offers a boutique cruise on a smaller boat which is less crowded and a crew that offers a much more informative and personal tour of Milford Sound. The smaller boat means you get closer to the wildlife and nature including the New Zealand fur seals basking on the rocks, massive rock faces rising for hundreds of metres out of the sea and the waterfalls cascading from an ancient rainforest high in the mountains. This cruise is unbeatable.

    120 minutes here

Epic Sights & Sounds

Epic experience! Danny did a fantastic job guiding us throughout the day - from stops and fun tidbits to special hidden LOTR gems and an exceptional playlist to the journey. Milford Sound was one of the most beautiful experiences I’ve ever had. Highly recommend!

Excellent service - highly recommended

We highly recommended Danny as our driver and tour guide to our Milford cruise. He was punctual , very organised with the stop overs eg coffee & toilet breaks, photo taking & been spoilt with snacks, water & lunch that has been provided. He was also entertaining & not boring, Danny had excellent knowledge about the country, professional, courteous and very easy to approach - He even took photos for everyone who asked him to. He ensure our safety is his responsibility. Our group were very looked after - from start to finish. He ensure my husband Jack is comfortable during the tour due to his motion sickness. He did go far and beyond. Danny is highly recommended.

Excellent day out to Milford Sound / highly recommended

Cheeky Kiwi Travel tour from Queenstown to Milford Sound with Amy - just book it. Easy pickup near our hotel, very comfortable coach and wonderful driving by our host/driver Amy. Amy was an absolute wealth of knowledge and her commentary throughout the journey to Milford Sound was really engaging/interesting. We learned about the history and features of the beautiful areas we drove through, plus opportunities to pull in to have a closer look at special locations. Smaller bus resulted in more personalised service and a better overall travel experience for us. We had regular breaks for rest stops & coffee thoughout the outbound journey with less required on return journey. The lunch pack provided was ample & generous. The cruise through Milford Sound was on a snaller boat that was comfortabie snd not overcrowded. The views and experience aboard the boat were unforgettable with the smaller boats able to get close to the waterfalls. Thanks Amy for giving our family a great day out with excellent driving whilst giving a superb commentary. We wouldn’t have been able to visit Milford Sound without a tour operator like Cheeky Kiwi tours as it would be too long a drive/day from us ex-Queenstown (plus some ice on roafs and twisty country roads, which Amy as a local experienced driver, navigated safely at a decent pace with our pickup at 7am to drop off at 8pm).

Queenstown to Te Anau via Milford Sound inc Cruise & Lunch: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Queenstown.

How much does Queenstown to Te Anau via Milford Sound inc Cruise & Lunch cost?

+

Prices start at $175 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Queenstown usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Queenstown to Te Anau via Milford Sound inc Cruise & Lunch take?

+

Plan for about 10 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Queenstown is not rushed.

Is Queenstown to Te Anau via Milford Sound inc Cruise & Lunch worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 76 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 25 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Queenstown, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Queenstown to Te Anau via Milford Sound inc Cruise & Lunch?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Queenstown to Te Anau via Milford Sound inc Cruise & Lunch suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 10-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Queenstown to Te Anau via Milford Sound inc Cruise & Lunch?

+

Around 9 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Queenstown can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Queenstown and add a light layer if any part of the 10-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Queenstown to Te Anau via Milford Sound inc Cruise & Lunch start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Queenstown within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Queenstown?

+

On Outty we rank every Queenstown experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Premium Milford Sound Small Group Tour & Cruise from Queenstown, Milford Sound Premium Small Group Tour & Cruise from Queenstown, Award Winning Premium Wine Tour Queenstown Tasting at 4 Wineries. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Queenstown?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Queenstown?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
