Highly Recommend Cheeky Kiwi Tours!
We had a wonderful experience on both legs of our journey from Christchurch to Franz Josef and from Franz Josef to Queenstown with Cheeky Kiwi tours. Both of our guides, Jannis and Kristina, were wonderfully kind, entertaining, and informative. The tours allowed us to see parts of the South Island we would have otherwise not been able to reach while also providing very convenient transportation between our accommodations. Both Jannis and Kristina went out of their way to teach us about New Zealand's unique flora, fauna, industry, and cultures, while also just being extremely kind and conscientious, going out of their ways to make sure everyone had a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable trip. They were also both extremely good drivers! We would definitely use Cheeky Kiwi tours again when we return to New Zealand!
Response from the operator: Thanks so much for the feedback! Jannis and Kristina are awesome guides and totally passionate about sharing the South Island on the Queenstown to Christchurch Tour. At Cheeky Kiwi we're proud to have the best tour guides in the industry. We're stoked you had such a wonderful trip and hope to see you back again :)

Personalised attention and flexibility
I'm not sure whether we were just lucky on our trips but we went on two trips with Cheeky Kiwi and both trips only had a handful of travellers. This led to very relaxed, informal, and flexible trips, greatly enhanced by the tour guides (special shout-outs to Lynette and Martin), who were both absolutely fantastic. We could really pick our stops, side trips and timing, which was great. I suspect that whether there were 5 people or 12, these guides would still ensure that you felt special and do their best to be flexible.
Response from the operator: We are so pleased that our drivers looked after you so well and that you had such enjoyable trips. We hope you can join us again one day. Thank you for travelling with Cheeky Kiwi

This was a great way to...
This was a great way to see lots of different sites and enjoy the country while someone else does the driving. Sadly for us the weather didn't cooperate with us on the second day, with rain and wind causing some of the walks to be cancelled. We were all okay with that. Both our guides, Colin on the first leg and Logan on the second, were fun, personable, and informative. Would definitely recommend.
Response from the operator: Thank you for your nice feedback. The West Coast can almost be guaranteed to rain on you. But is is also lovely in the rain. So glad you enjoyed your trip so much and thank you for travelling with us.

ROAD TRIP!!!
We spent 3 weeks in NZ. Why fly from Queenstown to Christchurch, when you can see the sights on along the road! This was a great way to see more of NZ. There were about 8 of us in the journey. We had many different stops that weren't just hop out for a picture. We got to spend time to go along some hiking trails/treks. The first half was to Franz Joseph with Jonathan. He was full of dad jokes and was terrific. At Franz Joseph, we were picked up by Joel for the 2nd half of the journey. Joel was young but he was easy going and had some great local information. He'll pickup some dad jokes later. The only thing I would change in this trip would be to allow us at least one full day at Franz Joseph. We arrived there about dinner time, with very little time before the sunset.... then we left Franz Joseph bright and early at 8am the next day. It was such a beautiful place and a shame that we couldn't explore the place. Since it is a new guide and 2nd part of the journey, Cheeky Kiwi could have picked up a day later, allowing us to explore Franz Joseph for a day. No tour guide would be needed. All in all, this was a great road trip!
Response from the operator: You are right it is really worth travelling in a small tour. You get to experience the real New Zealand at a leisurely pace. I believe it is possible to book with a day in between at Franz Josef as the two tours are separate. We hope we see you again some day so you can explore Franz Josef and all it has to offer. Helicopter rides are popular there. Thank you for travelling with us.

Great Tour option for those who don't want to drive themselves.
This tour is a great option for those who don't want to drive themselves. It takes you from one province to another and includes visits to worthwhile scenic spots along the way, offering opportunities for hiking and getting close to nature. The driver also provides plenty of local information and interesting anecdotes. It's an excellent tour choice, and I highly recommend it to all travelers who prefer not to drive. Though it's marketed as a two-day tour, it's actually two separate day tours combined, with two different driver-guides.

Why this scores 69
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Queenstown to Christchurch via West Coast 2-Day Small-Group Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Queenstown.
How much does Queenstown to Christchurch via West Coast 2-Day Small-Group Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $480 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Queenstown usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Queenstown to Christchurch via West Coast 2-Day Small-Group Tour take?
+
Plan for about 48 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Queenstown is not rushed.
Is Queenstown to Christchurch via West Coast 2-Day Small-Group Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 69 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 10 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Queenstown, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Queenstown to Christchurch via West Coast 2-Day Small-Group Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Queenstown to Christchurch via West Coast 2-Day Small-Group Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 48-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Queenstown to Christchurch via West Coast 2-Day Small-Group Tour?
+
Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Queenstown can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Queenstown and add a light layer if any part of the 48-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Queenstown to Christchurch via West Coast 2-Day Small-Group Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Queenstown within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Queenstown?
+
On Outty we rank every Queenstown experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Premium Milford Sound Small Group Tour & Cruise from Queenstown, Milford Sound Premium Small Group Tour & Cruise from Queenstown, Award Winning Premium Wine Tour Queenstown Tasting at 4 Wineries. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Queenstown?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Queenstown?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
