Sea Caves
The area boasts caves, as well as spectacular rock formations, which have taken thousands of years to form. Earlier, when the human presence was less prominent, there were seals (Monachus monachus) inhabiting the caves, which added to the popularity of the area among the sightseers.

In this area, between 1952 and 1955, the Department of Antiquities of Cyprus excavated three Early Christian basilicas and a bath, all dated to the 6th century AD. The settlement was probably a port of call for the ships that transported grain from Egypt to Constantinople. The archaeological site next to St George’s is considered to be the most significant early Byzantine site in Cyprus. Off of the coast lies Yeronisos Island (Holy Island) that is supposed to have been part of the mainland at some point. The archaeological findings have shown three major periods of settlement: Chalcolitic, Hellenistic and Early Byzantine. There is a church you can visit, as well as catacombs, which are thought to have belonged to the earlier version of it, as well as a little scenic marina adding to the charm and the spectacular view of St George’s.

Lara Bay Turtle Conservation Station
Akamas is the last large unspoiled coastal area remaining in Cyprus and one of the very few important sea turtle nesting grounds in the Mediterranean. Both the Loggerhead Turtle (Caretta-caretta) and the rarer Green Turtle (Chelonia mydas) nest in Turtle Bay; the latter depends on the Akamas beaches for its very survival in this region. The IUCN (International Union for the Conservation of Nature) lists Loggerheads as “vulnerable” and Green Turtles as an “endangered species”. According to the IUCN, the annual number of Green Turtle nesting females in the entire Mediterranean could be as low as 325-375. From end of May to September, you can see the nests that are protected by little enclosures. In 1989 the Lara coastal region and adjacent sea was declared into a Protected Area. We explain more about the turtles as well while we are here. Here, we stop for swimming and info about the turtles.

Amazing Tour
Just got back from this tour today, we opted for the 3hr buggy tour to Lara bay. We booked directly at venue a few days beforehand and it was quick and easy. Our two buggy trip cost £120 for the 3 hours and it was worth every penny, the trip was simply amazing. We got to see some great areas of the island and also drove off track which was extremely fun 😊 buggy was easy to drive and we got up to 65kph on most parts so was pretty speedy. Our guide, was great and friendly she had her lovely little chihuahua dog as her helper for the day . Stopped at Lara bay for some lunch which had to be pre-ordered which we didn't select, but after seeing everyone else's food arrived wished we had, portions looked massive and food looked tasty. We have been to coral bay a few times over the years but have never got round to booking the buggys, but it will definitely be on our list for next year again

Great dusty fun!
Great morning out - you get to see and access places that are difficult by car. The buggy was fun & really comfortable. Couldn’t face the helmets needed for quads in the heat. Take water!

Rude staff, decent scenery, well over priced
Mixed opinions with this tour, €220 for a 3 seater buggy for 3hr tour. Booked with Tui who told us for the price that googles, face coverings would be included in the price. Picked up on time at hotel, minibus had a faulty sliding door which was very problematic during the collection of guests from various other hotels. Arrived on site to what could only be desired as chaos, people everywhere and various queues which left you standing in the blistering heat with no protection from the sun etc. quads and buggy’s flying about everywhere, dogs running loose and just very chaotic. Finally got served only to be told face covers would be an additional charge of €5pp and that if we wanted lunch we would have to tell them now what we would like to eat. Tried to explain that we were told that the face coverings were included in the original price but this is where things took a turn for the worse. The female became incredibly hostile and very argumentative, this then caused a second female member of staff to also have her say. Both members of staff were incredibly unprofessional, rude, and very hostile. I reluctantly paid the additional €15 euros and informed the staff that I would make sure to leave a review of my interactions with them. This did not go down well and they became further hostile, to the point I nearly just asked for a refund. The actual excursion wasn’t too bad, the buggy was well used and did have faults but after the altercation with the females on the desk we just decided to proceed. Buggy constantly steered to the left when you accelerated, the rear diff made a high pitched squeal under load and the engine management light was on throughout the tour. The guide was good, they seemed to be like a well oiled machine in terms of going through the motions. The views were incredible, the locations were lovely. Out of the 3 hours we had approx 1hr driving the buggy, the rest of the time was allocated to spending time at the church, time at the turtle beach and a big chunk of time for lunch. The tour is incredibly dusty and you end up pretty dirty but that was all part of the fun. Averaged around 35kph so wasn’t an Adrenalin packed drive. Arrived back at base to be told that we were too dirty to get in the minibus and we should clean ourselves off somehow. Conclusion, decent tour but over priced at €220, this may well be on Tui for charging more but can only say it was over priced. Staff were shocking, attitude very poor and incredibly rude. Guide’s were good, friendly, polite so no complaints. Equipment was well used, certainly had its faults and others did expierence breakdowns. Locations etc were good, although packed with other guests on other buggy tours etc so was very busy. Was good fun but the desk staff at the site leave a lot to be desired. I personally wouldn’t book with this company again, customer service is non existent so please consider this when considering booking. This company came highly rated by others so I thought it would be worth while doing. Shame the desk staff have let the company down on this occasion.
Response from the operator: Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are genuinely pleased to hear that you enjoyed the tour itself, the beautiful scenery, the locations visited and the professionalism of our guides. We appreciate your positive comments regarding them, as our team works hard every day to provide a safe and memorable experience. We are, however, disappointed to read your description of your interaction with our office staff, as it does not reflect what took place. Regarding the face coverings, every guest is provided with complimentary protective goggles to protect against the dust. The reusable bandanas/scarves are an entirely optional accessory available for purchase at €5 each for guests who wish to use one. They are not a mandatory item, and quite simply, not something our staff would argue with a guest over. In fact, in an effort to assist you, our receptionist offered you complimentary disposable face masks at no charge. These were declined, as you specifically requested the reusable bandanas that other guests had chosen to purchase. You then stated that your TUI representative had advised you they were included. Following the incident, we contacted TUI directly, and the representative confirmed that no such promise had been made. Furthermore, the booking confirmation you showed us at reception also made no mention of complimentary face coverings. On the same morning, we welcomed approximately 20 other guests who had booked through the very same TUI representative, and not one of them believed that reusable bandanas were included in the tour price. Unfortunately, what should have been a brief explanation developed into a lengthy discussion while many other guests were waiting to check in and the tour was due to depart. This unnecessarily delayed the check-in process, created an uncomfortable atmosphere at reception and placed additional pressure on our staff, who were simply trying to assist all guests and ensure the tour departed on time. Despite this, our team remained professional and focused on assisting everyone as efficiently as possible, and we categorically reject the suggestion that they behaved aggressively or unprofessionally. The incident was reported to TUI immediately afterwards, and we subsequently received an apology for the behaviour directed towards our reception staff. With regard to your comments about waiting in the sun, summer is naturally our busiest period. To ensure guests are served as efficiently as possible, we operate three reception desks simultaneously and provide large shade tents in the waiting area. As can also be seen in the photograph accompanying your own review, guests are not left standing without protection from the sun. Regarding the vehicle, the engine management light you mentioned was not an indication of a mechanical fault or lack of servicing. Following routine maintenance, the warning light may remain illuminated until it is reset using our diagnostic equipment. Every vehicle in our fleet is thoroughly inspected and serviced every single day before each tour, as guest safety is always our highest priority. We also appreciate your comments regarding the transfer vehicle and will ensure these are passed to the relevant department for review. With respect to the price, we completely understand that value is subjective. However, the retail price charged through third-party travel companies, including TUI, is set by those companies and not by us. While we operate the excursion itself, we do not control the prices at which external agents choose to sell it. Reading your review as a whole, it is clear that you enjoyed the tour, the scenery, the locations and the professionalism of our guides. It is therefore disappointing that your overall impression appears to have been overshadowed by a disagreement concerning an optional €5 accessory that was never included in your booking. We respect every guest's right to share their experience, whether positive or negative. Equally, we believe it is important that future readers are provided with the full factual context so they can form their own opinion. We wish you all the best and thank you again for your feedback.

horrible
slow and ugly quad embarassing to ride and the tour guide was rude... the quad also broke down...
Response from the operator: Hello, thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that your experience didn’t meet your expectations. Please note that the vehicle was rented for the duration of the tour only, and it was not sold. All our vehicles are regularly maintained, and safety is our top priority. We do not advertise extreme or dangerous tours, our rides are designed to be safe, enjoyable experiences for all participants. Occasionally, technical issues can happen with off-road vehicles, and our guides are trained to handle them promptly. We appreciate your comments and will continue working to improve our service.

a more boring buggy ride around the world
from a 3 hour driving plan the driving itself is good if it is 1 hour, you have to drive more on asphalt than gravel road! Unfriendly staff, one of the instructors even raised his voice at my family :(
