Long Packed Day, but Well Worth It!!

This was a great adventure from the scenic spots, to the calm beautiful canoe ride, hike in the jungle to enjoying the waterfall, seeing the tribal people, the chocolate factory, to the "swing" (which was a wooden plank and just one questionable strap to hold you in place) at one of the viewpoints( which was extra $3USD in Oct 2026). Not to mention the people you meet and get to enjoy these activities with, which is a bonus. It is a long packed day, but well worth it! A couple things I'll mention is that, the Driver/ Guide he spoke both English (what I requested, and double checked based on some of the other reviews) and Spanish, he does show some cool things, share info on medicines (while we were trekking in the jungle), but overall it wasnt one of those tours where he is deeply expalining everything, aside from what I mentioned before, he mostly advised on guidelines and timeframes on the activities and stayed back and let you enjoy the moments. For me that was fine, and in my case worked out great because of the group I had, most of us ended up talking to each other. By the end of the trip a lot of the folks were even talking about arranging another activity on their own the following day. Another thing is, maybe try to look for this company in town one day and book directly with them, might save some money than booking through here, but if you're pinched for time or can't get around to it, booking here is convenient too.

Response from the operator: Thank you for sharing such a detailed review! We’re delighted you enjoyed the adventure, the jungle, the waterfall, and the wonderful people you met along the way. We appreciate your feedback and hope to welcome you again for another Ecuadorian adventure!

    Hidden costs and tourist traps

I read all reviews before I purchase an experience, and this was the first time a Viator experience failed me. Our tour guide spoke both English and Spanish, and even though 1/2 the tour didn’t speak Spanish, he didn’t speak English to them unless there was a question. But they didn’t know what to question since they didn’t understand! First, we were taken to a touristy area to take pictures of ourselves in a “ballon” with beautiful scenery, or “canoe”, with beautiful scenery, etc. In my opinion, a waste of time, even though it was along the route. Next we were transported to a waterfall, where we hike along a trail of about 15-20 minutes and then were able to swim for 1/2 hour. Then, lunch— choices were advertised as meat, chicken, fish. But if you wanted the fish, it was 3$ more. Then, canoe ride with no life jackets… hmmm. But, for me that was one of the best parts of the journey. Afterwords, we went to a Kichwa community where practically no explanation was given about culture or anything! It was very touristy. People danced around. We were painted on out faces, some dressed in costumes, and could take pictures of ourselves holding parrots or macaws, or a boa— if you paid 2$ more! Next, on to the swing high in the forest— oh wait, 3$ more… it was fun though. I did go for pictures, partially. However some guy from the tourist agency had his stick right in the middle of my video as I swung above the forest—- not cool! Last, but not least, at 7:30 pm, it was time for cacao bean roasting. With a less tha minimal explanation from our tour guide, we roasted, shucked, and then ground the beans into a paste. Of course, if you wanted hot chocolate (freshly made), it was another 2$. We got back around 9pm- I expected a long day. But do not expect the guide to pass his hat around for tips. I thought it extremely tacky.

Response from the operator: Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are sorry to hear that your experience did not fully meet your expectations. We appreciate your comments regarding the bilingual explanations, as we understand that every participant should feel included and informed throughout the tour, regardless of their language. We will review this aspect with our team to improve communication and ensure a better experience for all our guests. Our Amazon tour includes visits to natural attractions and local communities, as well as opportunities to experience the region's culture and traditions. However, we regret that the explanations provided during your visit to the Kichwa community were not sufficient to help you appreciate its cultural significance. Regarding the optional activities and food supplements, we understand that additional costs can affect the overall experience, and we will review how these are communicated to our guests in advance. We also take your comments about the canoe ride and the filming interruption seriously. We are glad that you enjoyed the waterfall, canoe ride, and forest swing, but we are sorry that other aspects of the tour left you disappointed. Your feedback is valuable and helps us identify areas where we need to improve. Thank you again for bringing these concerns to our attention.

Great day out just Ned the right guide

Overall the trip was fantastic The waterfall was beautiful and we were lucky that it wasn’t too busy. The trip down the river was also interesting especially as our boat driver took us down a side stream and showed us some animals (mostly spiders but they were at a distance). The visit to the village was interesting, they showed the animals which I struggled with as they are clearly being used for show and didn’t seem overly thrilled to be handled. We were given a welcome drink and had our faces painted. Overall a great experience. The bus driver needs a special thanks as he was fantastic and super helpful throughout the day (serving food, pre-cooling the bus etc) One negative was our guide Paulo. We were a mixed group of Spanish and English speakers and he clearly did not enjoy having to repeat himself in English. Additionally he didn’t take great care of the group when walking up to the waterfall, two ladies only joined us 10 minutes after the main group arrived and this had not been noticed by Paulo. He also frankly seemed more interested in the free food or available hammocks whenever we arrived somewhere. If the trip itself hadn’t been well organised it might well could have been a very unenjoyable experience

Response from the operator: Thank you very much for taking the time to share such detailed feedback about your experience with us. We are delighted to hear that you had a fantastic overall trip and enjoyed the waterfall, the river journey, and the visit to the local community. We are especially glad that the day was well organized and that our driver was so helpful throughout the experience. We will certainly make sure your kind words about him are shared with our team. We also truly appreciate your honest comments regarding the community visit. We understand your concerns about the way some of the animals are presented and handled, and your feedback is important to us as we continue working to promote responsible and respectful tourism. Regarding your experience with our guide Paulo, we sincerely apologize. A mixed Spanish- and English-speaking group should receive the same level of attention and enthusiasm regardless of the language. It is also very concerning to hear that two guests were separated from the main group for around 10 minutes without this being noticed. Guest safety and attentive group management are extremely important to us. We will review your feedback directly with Paulo and our operations team. We are grateful that you brought these points to our attention, as they help us identify where we need to improve. Thank you again for recognizing the positive aspects of the experience while also being honest about what could have been better. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to Ecuador and provide you with an even better experience next time.

    Overall, this Amazon tour...

Overall, this Amazon tour offers good value and features some great standout moments, though the pacing could have been a bit more engaging. The highlights included the beautiful waterfall and the fun Tarzan swing, which really delivered on adventure. However, the village visit was extremely uncomfortable; the animals appeared to be in distress, and it felt so distressing that I couldn't leave fast enough. I originally wanted a tour without that specific stop after reading other reviews, but unfortunately, it seems most standard Amazon tours bundle these exact same components together.I truly wish some operator would start offering an option completely without that segment. Skipping it would significantly improve the tour's overall timing and flow. If operators are worried about supporting locals, I would be much happier to simply donate directly to the Amazon communities, or have them show us the items they sell so we can buy from them directly.

Response from the operator: Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback about our Puyo Amazon Full Day Tour. We’re glad to hear that you enjoyed the waterfall and the Tarzan swing, and that these were memorable parts of your Amazon adventure. We’re especially sorry to hear that the community visit made you uncomfortable. We completely understand your concerns regarding the animals, and we take this type of feedback seriously. Your comments are valuable to us as we continue reviewing the experiences included in our tours and looking for ways to make them more respectful, comfortable, and meaningful for our travelers. We also appreciate your suggestion about offering an alternative without this stop. We will certainly take this into consideration when designing our future Amazon experiences. Thank you again for your honest feedback. We truly appreciate it and hope the beauty and adventure of the Amazon were still highlights of your trip.

Puyo Amazon Full Day Shared Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Baños.

How much does Puyo Amazon Full Day Shared Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $40 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Baños usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Puyo Amazon Full Day Shared Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 11 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Baños is not rushed.

Is Puyo Amazon Full Day Shared Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 79 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 50 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Baños, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Puyo Amazon Full Day Shared Tour?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Puyo Amazon Full Day Shared Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 11-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Puyo Amazon Full Day Shared Tour?

    +

Around 18 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Baños can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Baños and add a light layer if any part of the 11-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Puyo Amazon Full Day Shared Tour start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Baños within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Baños?

    +

On Outty we rank every Baños experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Rafting Tour, Full Day Baths, The Best Extreme Canyoning -Cashaurco in -Banos Ecuador. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Baños?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Baños?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.

What is included in Puyo Amazon Full Day Shared Tour?

    +

Included: Tickets; Lunch; In-vehicle air conditioning; and Rain Poncho and Rubber Boots. Not included: Gratuities. Always check the voucher for the final list before you travel.
