What you get

    About this experience

Would you like to experience traditional Japanese crafts in Kyoto? This workshop is located an 8-minute walk from Shugakuin Imperial Villa. This is a workshop where you can make spoons from pure silver. I think it's rare to find a workshop where you can make cutlery from pure silver. Since ancient times, silver has been considered a talisman to ward off misfortune and evil spirits. There is also a custom of giving a silver spoon to a baby to wish them happiness. Please rest assured that our craftsmen will carefully assist you. Place the finished spoon in a paulownia box. I think it would be great as a souvenir for yourself or a gift for a loved one!

Great for beginners like me too

It was a fun time and an interesting workshop that let me get a little creative. Emi and her husband were wonderful instructors, demonstrating and explaining what to do, while also helping to correct mistakes too (e.g., stamping too lightly or when I forgot to add a design before moving on—oops!) Most of the time was stamping designs, then hammering to shape, and then smoothening/polishing the piece. You get to choose (and draw) what designs to add to the spoon. We took a bit of time figuring out how to make the outline of snow of Mt. Fuji, and it worked out! I ended up staying past the original end time to finish the spoon, and Emi and her husband were so patient, kind, and generous to help me get it done. It’s great for beginners since they gave space to experiment on other metal before trying it on the silver. Plus, their encouragement and guidance made it feel safe to experiment. Highly recommend the experience, and I got to take home a great craft souvenir!

A great experience and break from crowded touristy areas, and we are excited to use our spoons!

A memorable way to spend the afternoon! The couple hosting the workshop was so friendly. They welcomed us with tea and snacks. The language barrier was not a problem, they had English instructions prepared and were patient in demonstrating each step. I was happy that they checked our spoons thoroughly before we would proceed to the next step, as they want to make sure you leave with a good spoon! They had more of their original metalwork handicrafts on display as well and it was extremely impressive. Overall, we had fun and the afternoon flew by. Would highly recommend, quite possibly our favorite Kyoto activity!

Well worth the money, I definitely recommend for any travelers heading to Kyoto!

This workshop was well worth the money! They are so friendly and welcome you into their workshop like family, I was given tea and snacks while they showed me how to perform the art of silver smithing with the spoon. They even give you a copper spoon to practice on at the beginning I was able to keep as well. The couple that runs this workshop is extremely skilled in fine metal working, they showed me some of the small intricate pieces they create and I was amazed at their craftsmanship. Ask them to show you what else they make! Well worth the money, I definitely recommend! Thank you again! :)

How much does Pure Silver Spoon Making Workshop in Kyoto cost?

    +

Prices start at $33000 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Kyoto usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

    +

Plan for about 2.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Kyoto is not rushed.

Is Pure Silver Spoon Making Workshop in Kyoto worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 54 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 4 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Kyoto, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Pure Silver Spoon Making Workshop in Kyoto?

    +

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 2.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Pure Silver Spoon Making Workshop in Kyoto?

    +

Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Kyoto can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Kyoto and add a light layer if any part of the 2.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Pure Silver Spoon Making Workshop in Kyoto start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Kyoto within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Kyoto?

    +

On Outty we rank every Kyoto experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Kyoto : Gion Make Your Own Chopsticks with Engraving Option, Award-Winning Authentic Ramen Making Experience in Kyoto, Hidden Kyoto E-Biking tour. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Kyoto?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Kyoto?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
