Parque Nacional Cahuita has the largest system of Coral Reefs in Costa Rica, including 6 species of coral, a wide range of colorful tropical fishes and the occasional encounter of a harmless reef shark or sting ray. This beach has a horse shoe shape, with the entrance of the park at one end and beautiful Punta Cahuita at the other end. We start with a scenic 20 minutes boat ride to have two snorkeling sessions. Then we get drop off at the Punta to enjoy a nicely presented fruit and snacks break at the beach followed by a 1.5 hour/3.5 kms guided hike in this wonderful coastal forest : monkeys, sloths, birds, iguanas and other interesting encounters are common and complemented with great info from your guide. We will then have breakfast and drive to the Sloth Sanctuary where you will learn about them, their lives, nutrition and anatomy. In addition, a canoe tour through the channels of the Sanctuary where you will see the beautiful nature and animals. An unforgettable experience!

Experience was great but communication prior was challenging
The snorkling was great, although they were short a life jacket, thankfully most people on the boat were good swimmers. The hike was a super easy hike and our guide pointed out a couple sloths and a small group of monkeys. We were able to see through his telescope, although he did not help take pictures through the telescope. Guide was very informative about the area and animals. The pineapple on our break was delicious (but DON'T feed the monkeys). Sloth sanctuary was nice and informative, it was nice to see the sloths up close. Communication regarding pickup location through Viator was a bit challenging and frustrating and would have been easier to just communicate directly with the tour operator. All in all a good experience and we enjoyed ourselves.
Response from the operator: Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed review. We’re very glad to hear you enjoyed the snorkeling, wildlife sightings, and visit to the Sloth Sanctuary — it sounds like you had a wonderful experience overall. We also appreciate your honest feedback about the communication before the tour. We understand how important clear and timely information is, and we’re already reviewing this internally to make the process smoother for future guests booking through Viator.

Looks pricey, but you get a lot. Good value for money
I went with my teenage daughter to the full day tour. It's really worth it. The guide was super nice and knowledgeable. We saw sharks and other fish in the reef. The hiking in Cauhita park was easy and we saw monkeys and sloths and more. The last stop was the sloths sanctuary. I highly recommend, as it also helps the place financially. And it's very interesting. We ended in a restaurant in Cahuita. Tasty food with pool table. Communication with the operator: A day before they contacted us through WhatsApp. As we were staying in Cahuita, we were supposed to arrive alone to the beginning of the tour. However, they picked us up from our hotel. That was cool.
Response from the operator: Thank you for your very positive feedback. Your comments are very important for us to improve our services and I am glad you had a lovely experience with us and we met your travelling expectations. We hope to be your choice for your future holiday destinations. Kind regards, Customer Service team

Is Puerto Viejo: Cahuita Park Hike and Snorkel, and Sloth Sanctuary worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 67 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 8 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Limon, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

How far in advance should I book Puerto Viejo: Cahuita Park Hike and Snorkel, and Sloth Sanctuary?
+
Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Limon can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Limon and add a light layer if any part of the 9-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Limon within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Limon?
+
On Outty we rank every Limon experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Full-Day Tour to Cahuita National Park from Puerto Limon, The Sloth and Kayak Tour - Ethical wildlife encounters, Bribri Magic Chocolate and Waterfall Experience. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Limon?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Limon?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
