Great history, tour of Athens and the acropolis

Hermes was a great guide for our walking tour of Athens and the Acropolis. Our group needed extra time to walk and rest time and he was very attentive to make sure we were all comfortable. The history buffs among us lpeppered him with so many questions and he was beyond patient and a wealth of knowledge. We ran over our tour time, and he still walked us to the perfect lunch spot. Would definitely recommend this Tour.

Response from the operator: Hey Stephanie, Thank you so much for this pleasant review! We are absolutely thrilled to hear how well Hermes took care of your group. He truly embodies what a great guide should be—attentive to everyone's comfort, endlessly patient with the history buffs, and a total wealth of knowledge! Going above and beyond to make sure you enjoyed the rest of your day with a great lunch recommendation is just the icing on the cake. Thank you for highly recommending us, and we hope you enjoyed every minute of your time in Athens! Warmly, Athens Walking Tours Team

Amazing tour with the knowledgable and considerate Annie

We booked a custom private tour for 5 of us that included the Acropolis, Acropolis Museum, Temple of Zeus, Hadrian's Arch, the Roman Agora, the Ancient Agora, and the Agora museum, as well as stops for Loukoumades and for Greek pies. In all it was an 8 hour tour, starting at 7:45 AM and going until almost 4 PM. This was really a fantastic tour, and it was because of our tour guide, Annie. She was truly considerate of how to make our tour work for everyone, and she had overwhelming passion and knowledge about everything throughout the tour. First, Annie's consideration--we arrived at the tour with 5 people, one of whom was pregnant, and another with a medical condition which limits how fast she can tour. Annie took this in stride--finding shaded or cool places to sit at every possible opportunity, making sure to limit how long any given portion of walking was, and ensuring we had chances to rest appropriately. Second, Annie clearly knows the history of Greek culture (...as well as Italian, Egyptian, Persian...) and loves to share her culture. She gave the appropriate background for each part of the tour, making sure we understood the relevant context, and used analogies throughout the day to guide our thinking and enrich our understanding. It was a pleasure to listen to Annie describe Greek history and culture for the full tour! I can recommend every part of the tour--the Acropolis speaks for itself, and the Acropolis museum is a must-see to get the full picture. The Ancient Agora has so many different aspects to see that we probably could've spend a full day there alone. But most of all, we recommend Annie!

Response from the operator: Thank you so much for this thoughtful and detailed review! We're super happy to hear your custom private tour was such a memorable and enriching experience. Annie is truly one of a kind—her deep knowledge, passion, and personal care for every guest make all the difference. It’s wonderful to know she helped make the day both accessible and unforgettable for your group. From ancient sites to sweet and savory stops, we feel rewarded to know that you enjoyed every part of the journey. Warm regards, Athens Walking Tours Team

Brilliant private guided tour of the Acropolis and Athens City Centre

This was my first time in Athens and I fell in love with the city and its people. We had a 6-hour private walking tour of the city, the Acropolis and many other monuments in the company of Vicki (Vasiliki) who was not only a wonderful guide but an archaeologist as well, so she had so much to tell us about the places we visited. And she bought the history of Athens alive by telling us stories and making us laugh. We could not have asked for a better guide for our first day in Athens and Vicki planned a really good route for us with stops for coffee and at places just to take in the view.

Response from the operator: Dear Alun Silver, Thank you for taking the time to review us! We're delighted your first visit to Athens was filled with love for the city and its people. It sounds like Vicki, our expert archaeologist guide, made your private walking tour unforgettable. Her knowledge and storytelling ability truly bring Athenian history to life, making the experience engaging and enjoyable. Thank you for choosing Athens Walking Tours!

    Great Acropolis + Surrounding Tour

Our tour guide was so knowledgable and sweet -- she took us all around the acropolis and several other city monuments leading up to it and it was a great way to be introduced to the Acropolis proper. Very high quality tour! Highly recommend.

Private Walking Tour: The Acropolis & Athens City Tour: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Athens.

How much does Private Walking Tour: The Acropolis & Athens City Tour cost?

    +

Prices start at $79 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Athens usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Private Walking Tour: The Acropolis & Athens City Tour take?

    +

Plan for about 3.5 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Athens is not rushed.

Is Private Walking Tour: The Acropolis & Athens City Tour worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 70 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 52 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Athens, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Private Walking Tour: The Acropolis & Athens City Tour?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Private Walking Tour: The Acropolis & Athens City Tour suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3.5-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Private Walking Tour: The Acropolis & Athens City Tour?

    +

Around 18 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Athens can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Athens and add a light layer if any part of the 3.5-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Private Walking Tour: The Acropolis & Athens City Tour start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Athens within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Athens?

    +

On Outty we rank every Athens experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Athens Small Group E-Bike Tour, Small Group Greek Traditional Food Tour in Athens 20+ Tastings, Athens Scenic Bike Tour with Regular or Electric Bike + Acropolis. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Athens?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Athens?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
