    5. Rainbow Falls

On sunny days, rainbows appear in the mist of the 80-foot falls, making for some pretty magical views. The broad waterfall — nearly 100 feet in diameter — plunges over a natural lava cave and into the river below. When it rains, (which it often does in Hilo), the engorged Wailuku River makes the falls wider, muddier and louder. On these days, you won’t see the rainbows for which this spot is named, but the sheer volume of water and the accessibility of this spot for all ages make it a fun, quick and easy excursion.

      30 minutes here

    6. Kaumana Caves Park

This park offers a quick diversion into an unique volcanic feature, a a lava tube. You can descend on a metal ladder into a skylight in a lava tube that was created by an 1881 flow from Mauna Loa. Learn how a lava tube forms. The park features restrooms and picnic tables. 7. Saddle Road

Saddle Road, Hawaii, is considered among the most spectacular roads in the world. This is 55-mile drive of a chance of a lifetime experience. Hawaii’s Route 200 goes through all four of her climates – tropical forests, arid desert, lush grasslands and misty mountaintop fog. Between miles 19 and 23, you’ll see a few places with lava flows and young vegetation and trees. But just after Saddlehouse Road, you’ll see the ridges that show where a 1936 flow slowly came to a stop 2 miles away. Near the road you can see where lava thickened and left the telltale mounds of a slowing flow. Just after mile 23, you’ll come close to a popular local landmark, Pu`u Huluhulu, which is an older Mauna Kea cinder cone, or kīpuka, and it’s surrounded by younger lava flows. At this point, you’re near the peak height for Saddle Road, about 1.25 miles in elevation – 6,632 feet. From here, you’ll continue through the volcanic aftermath of hundreds of thousands of years of history

    Fantastic experience through and through

Zane is an INCREDIBLE tour guide. Passionate, caring, and adaptive. He accommodated all the various needs of our family - two adults, a 13yo, and an 8yo. He was so good he almost summoned lava out of the ground on demand. Truly incredible and highly recommend!

Response from the operator: Thank you for your review! We look forward to seeing you again. Erik

    AMAZING experience with Zayn

AMAZING tour with Zayn!! he is a geologist and extremely knowledgeable about Hawaii’s history and the land and he was such a fun person to be our tour guide. he was also flexible with our schedule, offered great food recommendations, and was very enthusiastic about showing us the stops along the way so that we got the full experience. Couldn’t have had a better tour!

The BEST Volcano Tour on the Big Island!

Zane, our guide, was a wealth of knowledge, not just about the volcanoes, but about all the activities around the island that we could do on different days. As far as volcanoes, he was able to show us geological sights, relate lore and even show us his own videos on the tour bus TV. The restaurants & food were perfect - especially the historic hotel on the volcano's rim! Would do this tour over again and fully recommend to friends and family.

High recommendation for Zane as your guide. The tour was arranged through a travel agent and it was excellent. Took our family of adults. Very fun, educational , and had great experience. It was a long day but Zane made it easy for us to learn and enjoy. Great laughs too. Book it.

This was the most amazing tour day I’ve ever had. Lead by owners Erik and Zane we experienced and explored the Big Island of Hawaii, how the islands were formed, volcanoes and history. Erik is a trained geologist and the breadth of his knowledge is unparalleled. Don’t miss this amazing opportunity to learn!

Private VIP Adventure from Kona or Waikoloa: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Big Island of Hawaii.

How much does Private VIP Adventure from Kona or Waikoloa cost?

    +

Prices start at $2385 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Big Island of Hawaii usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Private VIP Adventure from Kona or Waikoloa take?

    +

Plan for about 11 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Big Island of Hawaii is not rushed.

Is Private VIP Adventure from Kona or Waikoloa worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 61 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 29 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Big Island of Hawaii, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Private VIP Adventure from Kona or Waikoloa?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Private VIP Adventure from Kona or Waikoloa suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 11-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Private VIP Adventure from Kona or Waikoloa?

    +

Around 10 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Big Island of Hawaii can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Big Island of Hawaii and add a light layer if any part of the 11-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Private VIP Adventure from Kona or Waikoloa start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Big Island of Hawaii within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Big Island of Hawaii?

    +

The Big Island is volcano country: Hawaii Volcanoes National Park tours, Mauna Kea summit stargazing, night manta ray snorkels off Kona, Waipio Valley lookouts and coffee farm visits. Summit tours have real altitude rules, so we weight safety detail. On Outty we rank every Big Island of Hawaii experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include KONA Manta Ray Night Snorkel - FREE re-ride if no Sightings, Big Island in a Day: Volcanoes Waterfalls Sightseeing and History, Big Island: Captain Cook Snorkel On A Power Catamaran With Lunch. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Big Island of Hawaii?

    +

April to October, though the island runs year round. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Big Island of Hawaii?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
