About this experience

This is not your typical tourist experience; it is a private immersion into the place where tango really lives & breathes everyday in Buenos Aires: the Milonga. In this private experience, you will be guided through a one-night immersion as if you were a local - not just to hear about tango but be taken into the doors of this world of dancing, traditions and codes through a personalized lesson and milonga tour with wine, experiencing the live dancing, music, and culture of tango that can only be experienced in this first-hand context. This immersion is a special experience that many of our guests take back with them and re-live for years to come - sometimes even sparking a new chapter of dancing tango wherever they live in the world. Especially if you are someone looking for an authentic non-touristy experience, this is something we think you will enjoy! Great peek into the tango world of Argentina

This was an amazing experience. Ester and Rafael were great hosts, and gave a lovely introduction to tango (I swear I will nail that Ocho if it kills me!). Then it was off to a Malinga, where we could see the concepts we were taught in action. It felt more like a fun evening out with friends than a paid experience. Would definitely recommend.

Best birthday ever!

This was the best birthday ever! My husband and I had one day in Buenos Aires and I signed up to take this tango immersion class with Rafa. First off, communication with Rafa was wonderful and I could tell right off we were going to be in good hands. Rafa sent me info prior to our meeting date through WhatsApp and was kind to answer a few questions that I had. We had heard that certain parts of BA are dangerous so I was a little worried that we were heading out at 9pm, but we felt very safe while we waited to meet up with Rafa outside his studio. Rafa and Esther were very welcoming and patient with us…we received excellent instructions and advice on how to improve our movements and steps. My husband is just learning and I have taken a few lesson over the years while in the States. The tips that Esther and Rafa gave me are so helpful and really changed how I approach my movements (I have a long way to go). On a side note, it was my birthday the day we met and they surprised me with a cake ♥️ and birthday song!!!!! So sweet and thoughtful!!!! We practiced a little bit more and then we travelled together to a local milonga. This dance hall is a place I most certainly wouldn’t have found or have comfortably gone to on my own. There was a singer/show performance that evening which I really enjoyed and then afterwards we did get a chance to dance and test out my new tango shoes ♥️ (it wasn’t crowded and the location is more beginner friendly - which is not always the case so we were lucky to dance). I highly recommend you take this immersion tango tour. I wish we lived in BA so that I could take lessons with Rafa all the time! Keep dancing!!!

Milonga highlights

My husband and I spent a wonderful evening with Rafa and Andrea. First we spent about an hour on refining our Ocho and closing steps. We also talked about the Tango codes. Then we went to a milonga where we enjoyed some wine, further discussion about the Tango culture and observations of the local dancers. Luckily that night, there was a live orchestra performing with a singer and a dance company. We also shared about our own lives - theirs and ours. All in all, entertaining and educational.

Authentic

So much fun… better than expected. It was really authentic because it was in an intimate setting at first then moved to a wonderful location to watch real dancers and a live band.

Amazing local tango experience

We had an amazing experience with Rafa and Andrea! They make you feel so comfortable learning the basics of Tango, especially with it being our first ever lesson. It was also such a cool experience going to a local milanga and seeing how the locals spend their Saturday nights dancing. Highly recommend!

Private Underground Tango Immersion: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Buenos Aires.

How much does Private Underground Tango Immersion cost?

+

Prices start at $120 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Buenos Aires usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Private Underground Tango Immersion take?

+

Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Buenos Aires is not rushed.

Is Private Underground Tango Immersion worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 63 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.8/5 across 31 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Buenos Aires, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Private Underground Tango Immersion?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Private Underground Tango Immersion suitable for kids and families?

+

The operator sets a minimum age of 15. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 3-hour running time when deciding.

How far in advance should I book Private Underground Tango Immersion?

+

Around 11 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Buenos Aires can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Buenos Aires and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Private Underground Tango Immersion start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Buenos Aires within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Buenos Aires?

+

On Outty we rank every Buenos Aires experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Argentine Cooking, Wine & Beef Tasting at Argentine Experience, Historical Sherpa Food Tour of San Telmo with Street Food, Drinks, Cooking Class with Empanadas Steak & Flan by Argentine Experience. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Buenos Aires?

+

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Buenos Aires?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
