A unique way to experience the Great Wall if you are an avid hiker. You can see both the unrestored and restored sections. A guide was essential and I would not attempt alone. The tour logistics were professionally coordinated by Lily. Excellent communication. My tour guide Jiang was wonderful.

Sensational hiking tour
I had a very nice hike across the unrestored to the tourist part of the wall. The transfer was fine so far. I was picked up at the hotel on time in the morning and dropped off again later in the afternoon. Since I was traveling alone, I hired a private hiking guide, which I can only recommend to anyone. The booking also went through the same agency as the transfer. He was very friendly and explained everything to me and also knew exactly how access to the not quite official part of the wall worked. The track has about 10km and 600m altitude, so you should be fit and wear good footwear. Was a super historic hike with best sunny November weather.
Response from the operator: Dear Dabble, Thanks so much for your wonderful review of our Jiankou to Mutianyu Great Wall hike! We’re absolutely thrilled you had such a fantastic, historic hiking experience with the perfect sunny November weather—what a great day for exploring the wall! We’re glad the transfer was smooth for you, with on-time hotel pickup and drop-off, and that our private hiking guide made your solo trip so great. Big kudos to him for being so friendly, explaining everything in detail and showing you the way to the unrestored section of the wall expertly. Your tip about being a bit fit and wearing good shoes for the 10km, 600m elevation hike is so helpful for fellow hikers too! We truly appreciate your recommendation and are so happy you loved every part of the hike. Hope to welcome you back for more amazing Great Wall adventures soon!

Very cool experience for hikers 😄
The driver was very nice and the car was quite luxurious 😄. You will have to hike 30 mins from the village to the wall, it is a steep and nice hike following the farmer guide. From there you will be walking on the great wall. The first part it's going to be a bit more demanding but also super beautifull, i was alone almost the whole part. You will then reach the touristic part (Muttanyau) which is "less" intersting if you like to hike alone, since it will be crowded. The only problem i encountered was the guard that didn't let me go through so i had to walk back a little and then i just climbed the wall down ( you don't have to do that ) instead of going back to the entrance and than hike back to Muttanyau through the woods on the right side of the wall. Once you reach Muttanyau you can just walk all the way to the "gondola" that will being you down to the village where a shuttle bus or a 20 min walk will bring you to where the driver will be waiting for you 😄. Super experience, highly reccommended. You will be able to take pictures of yourself on the wall with no one around, which feels special 💫
Response from the operator: Dear Nicolo, Thank you so much for this fantastic, detailed review of our Jiankou to Mutianyu Great Wall Hiking Private Transfer Service—and for the awesome insider tips for fellow hikers! We’re thrilled you had such a super experience and loved the quiet, stunning sections of the wall for those perfect solo photos 💫 We’re delighted to hear our driver was so nice and the car was lovely and luxurious, making your trip seamless from start to finish. It’s awesome you enjoyed the steep, scenic hike to the wall with the farmer guide, and got to experience the peaceful, un-crowded Jiankou section—those solo moments on the Great Wall are truly special! Thanks also for sharing your handy tips about the route and the Mutianyu tourist section—this will be so helpful for other hikers looking to do this trail. We really appreciate your high recommendation, and it was our pleasure to support your amazing Great Wall hiking adventure. Hope to welcome you back for more incredible Beijing outdoor experiences with Lily's Tours Beijing Team soon! Warm regards, Lily's Tours Beijing Team

Great trekking and a chance to escape the crowds
My trip was a great success. It began with a smooth pick-up from my hotel at the agreed time. The drive to the village was very comfortable, and the car (a nice BMW) was clean and comfortable. Communication with the driver was via a translation app, but he was very friendly, and it wasn't a hassle. The trip passed very quickly. The hike to the Great Wall was worth the effort. Finally, I sledded down, took a shuttle bus, and met my driver in the parking lot. I highly recommend it. Although you should be prepared to explore some sections of the Wall on your own, it's advisable to prepare a little bit in advance.

Great service, very good driver
Nicholas Wang was my driver and was all the things you want a driver to be. Punctual, patient, helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. His car was clean and his driving skills excellent. He also went out of his way to assist me in the morning when I had misplaced my phone! He pointed me up the path at the village and kept in touch during the hike. The route was straightforward and clear, and I had an excellent day out!
Response from the operator: Dear Guest Hi there! 🚗 A massive thank you for this incredible review for Nicholas—he’s going to be over the moon when we pass this along, and he absolutely deserves every bit of this praise! We’re so stoked to hear he checked all the boxes for the perfect driver: punctual, patient, helpful, knowledgeable and friendly, with a clean car and amazing driving skills—total win! And going out of his way to help you when you misplaced your phone? That’s above and beyond, and we’re so glad he could step in and make that stressful moment so much easier. It’s awesome to hear he guided you on the village path, stayed in touch during your hike, and made your whole day out absolutely excellent—he’s such a gem, and we’re so lucky to have him on our team. Thanks a million for choosing us for your adventure, and for sharing all these lovely details about Nicholas. Hope you had the best time exploring, and we’d love to welcome you back anytime for more great trips with our team! The best Regards Annie

Why this scores 71
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Private Transfer Service: Jiankou Great Wall to Mutianyu Great Wall Hiking Tour: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Beijing.
How much does Private Transfer Service: Jiankou Great Wall to Mutianyu Great Wall Hiking Tour cost?
+
Prices start at $40 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Beijing usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Private Transfer Service: Jiankou Great Wall to Mutianyu Great Wall Hiking Tour take?
+
Plan for about 6 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Beijing is not rushed.
Is Private Transfer Service: Jiankou Great Wall to Mutianyu Great Wall Hiking Tour worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 71 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 10 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Beijing, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Private Transfer Service: Jiankou Great Wall to Mutianyu Great Wall Hiking Tour?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Private Transfer Service: Jiankou Great Wall to Mutianyu Great Wall Hiking Tour suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 6-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Private Transfer Service: Jiankou Great Wall to Mutianyu Great Wall Hiking Tour?
+
Around 4 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Beijing can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Beijing and add a light layer if any part of the 6-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Private Transfer Service: Jiankou Great Wall to Mutianyu Great Wall Hiking Tour start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Beijing within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Beijing?
+
On Outty we rank every Beijing experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Mubus: Mutianyu Great Wall Bus Tour with Summer Palace Options, Beijing: Top 6 Highlights All Inclusive 2-Day Private Tour, Private Mutianyu Great Wall Trip With English-Speaking Driver. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Beijing?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Beijing?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
