What you'll see and do

  1. Basilica di Santa Croce in Gerusalemme

Your first stop is the Basilica of the Holy Cross in Jerusalem. A gift from Constantine I to his mother Helen, who built a small chapel to house the relics of the Holy Cross which she found in Jerusalem and transported to Rome. Later this small chapel, originally basilica Eleniana, became the great basilica it is today. This basilica is also one of the stops on the “7 Churches” route that pilgrims used to make on foot during Holy Week.

  2. Arcibasilica di San Giovanni in Laterano

Next, stop by the cathedral of Rome and the seat of the Pope himself. The Archbasilica of St. John Lateran is the most important church in the world and the most ancient! It is one of the 4 papal basilicas in Rome, and it was the original residence of the popes up until the 14th century.

    45 minutes here

  3. Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore

Next you'll see the basilica that is said to have been commissioned by the Blessed Virgin Mary herself! She appeared to both Pope Liberius and a Roman Patrician, Giovanni, telling them she wished a church to be built in her honor. On August 5th, the Blessed Mother sent a miraculous snowfall, which rested on the Esquiline hill and outlined the layout of the church! Thus she earned her named "Lady of the Snows", and the basilica is now home to the manger of the Christ child.

    45 minutes here

  4. Basilica Papale Di San Paolo Fuori le Mura

Your last stop will be St. Paul's Outside the Walls. Located on the outskirts of the ancient Aurelian wall, the burial place of St. Paul was originally a small memorial building called a Cella Memoriae. However, Constantine I commissioned a larger basilica to be built on top of the Cella Memoriae to honor St. Paul. It has been demolished and rebuilt several times, undergoing many restorations and expansions. It was the largest church in Rome until St. Peter’s was built.

Really encompassing europe (Paris, Rome, Florence tours)

I reach out to Europe Odsessey for multiple tours because thoroughly enjoyed them last year in Rome/ Vatican. We did holy churches without a luxury car- Michael was also very knowledgeable, professional, and kind shown us all the beautiful baroque churches while not everyone is a big fan of visiting churches, I genuinely appreciated all the effort he put into the tour experiences. All of the tours were wonderful, and I really appreciate how smoothly everything was organized. It truly felt like the best of Europe. Mirella was incredibly informative and knowledgeable about the arts in Florence. She easily brought me to places that I was curious about- Kaws exhibit, wine in the hole, and the santa maria novella perfume. And Irene in Paris was fantastic as well; she took us to some beautiful churches(Miraculous medal) also went above and beyond for an additional stop at roland garros- and shared so much insight. Rick Steves was right—I’m so glad we chose this company again for our tours! Thank you for making everything easy and enriching for my dad and my uncle. making everything so accomodating for us. Highly recommend this tour group. Each tour guide - Michael, Mirella and Irene all went above and beyond and was very accomodating and flexible. We learb a great deal in each tour. Thank you again! Book them if you need a tour!

Response from the operator: Dear Alli, Thank you so much for this incredible and heartfelt review! We are truly honored that you chose to travel with us again and that your experiences in Rome, Florence, and Paris were so memorable. It’s wonderful to hear how much you enjoyed your time with Michael, Mirella, and Irene — they will be absolutely thrilled to receive your kind words. Thank you for your trust, your enthusiasm, and your lovely recommendation. We very much hope to welcome you back again for another European adventure! Warm regards

Amazing experience!

What an amazing time! European Odyssey went out of their way to schedule our church tour at a good time - such amazing communication! They accommodated our schedule and worked around local events. Our guide, Justin, was so knowledgeable about each church and explained so much. What a learning experience! If you are interested in learning about Church history beyond the Vatican (though their tour there is amazing too!), you will love this tour. He answered our (many!) questions throughout the time.

Response from the operator: We’re so happy to hear you had such a wonderful experience! Our team always strives to make scheduling and communication as smooth as possible, and Justin will be delighted to know his knowledge made your tour so engaging. Thank you for exploring with European Odyssey!

Holy doors

Our driver was punctual at 8:30 and picked us up in a nice Mercedes. We met our guide at the first church. Justin was very knowledgeable and never rushed us. Both the driver and guide were exceptional.

Private Tour with guide & Luxury Car: Holy Churches of Rome: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Rome.

How much does Private Tour with guide & Luxury Car: Holy Churches of Rome cost?

+

Prices start at $150 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Rome usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Private Tour with guide & Luxury Car: Holy Churches of Rome take?

+

Plan for about 4 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Rome is not rushed.

Is Private Tour with guide & Luxury Car: Holy Churches of Rome worth it?

+

It holds an Outty Ranking of 61 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 8 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Rome, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Private Tour with guide & Luxury Car: Holy Churches of Rome?

+

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Private Tour with guide & Luxury Car: Holy Churches of Rome suitable for kids and families?

+

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 4-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Private Tour with guide & Luxury Car: Holy Churches of Rome?

+

Around 3 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Rome can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

+

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Rome and add a light layer if any part of the 4-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Private Tour with guide & Luxury Car: Holy Churches of Rome start and how do I get there?

+

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Rome within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Rome?

+

Rome runs on skip-the-line access. The Colosseum underground, the Vatican before opening, and the catacombs south of the walls all require a licensed operator, and the price gap between the good ones and the rest is smaller than you would expect. We rank by guide credentials, group size and how reliably the promised access actually materialises. On Outty we rank every Rome experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Rome Pasta and Tiramisu Class: Ravioli, Fettuccine & Fine Wine 5*, Pasta Making & Wine Tasting with Dinner in Frascati from Rome, Rome: Pizza & Tiramisu or Gelato Class with Flowing Fine Wine 5*. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Rome?

+

April, May, September and October. August is hot and half the city is shut. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Rome?

+

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

+

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
