About this experience
This Private tour is an option thinking of people who like hiking and nature and do not have many days, on the route we will appreciate beautiful landscapes. After we pick you up at your hotel, we will start our adventure to the Humantay Lake with a 4-hour-drive in private transport to Mollepata (3850 m.a.s.l.). Mollepata is the campsite for the first day of the Salkantay trek. In Mollepata we will have a delicious breakfast to start our day well before beginning our trek. In Soraypampa we will start our trek up to the Humantay Lake (4200 m.a.s.l.) with beautiful views and if the sky is clear enough, we can see the impressive snow-capped Salkantay and Humantay. It is a 1.5-hour-walk to the lake with a low to moderate difficulty, and more than worth it when you see the magical view. It is also possible to rent a horse instead. We will have enough time to take pictures, bring an offer to the Apus, and for the real brave ones; swimming in the lake when it’s sunny! After some free time.

Humantay after 50 years
We went in 4 people and climbed Humantay after 3 days in Cusco, we did the Private Tour by Guru Explorer and I recommend to everyone, they were fantastic since the beginning extremely professional guide Luther, the walk is long and prepares the foot because it is very gravel. I am 53 years old and weighing 94 kilos so you can be sure that anyone with good psychology can, get up and get tired logically but it is one step behind the other. It took 1 hour and a half and it was worth every step the view is stunning and the tip is coming up the sides to take a photo, the edge is beautiful but from above is surreal. Questions and suggestions are just asking.

Look at a magnificent view free from animal abuse.
The lagoon is beautiful, the path is a bit tough but it is worth it for the view. Now, what I completely disagree with is the treatment of animals, especially with horses and mules. Those who offered the service threw stones at the horses when they could no longer move forward. I saw several of them lying down; it is not normal for horses. While this is not necessarily a sign of abuse, I saw guides throw stones several times, and I even saw one throw a water bottle at one of them. Many had marked ribs, their heads down, and sad looks. They were not given water, and according to the local person who took us to that place, they made them walk for 4 days. If they fell behind, they threw rocks at them, and then in just one day, they had to do the work of 4. When they were no longer useful, they were sacrificed. And that is not all; many tourism agencies offered the service of carrying things on mules. It was clear that these were not light loads, and according to reports, sometimes due to the load, they would fall in narrow places like ravines, and well, that was it; it is not an isolated case. PLEASE, for anyone who wishes to go, the view is stunning, but not at the cost of supporting animal abuse. It is a crime, and in Peru, it is penalized. Do not be a part of this. If there are no adequate regulations to provide these services, refrain from using them, in this place or in many others in Peru. Unfortunately, it is more common than would be considered acceptable.

+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 57 out of 100, which we label "Worth a Look". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.5/5 across 4 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Cusco, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

+
The operator sets a minimum age of 7. Older children generally do well here, and families should factor in the 13-hour running time when deciding.
How far in advance should I book Private tour to the Humantay lake - Cusco?
+
Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Cusco can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Cusco and add a light layer if any part of the 13-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

+

What are the best things to do in Cusco?
+
On Outty we rank every Cusco experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Sacred Valley Full Day Tour, Peruvian Cooking Class Cocktails and Market Tour in Cusco, Cusco: Rainbow Mountain & Red Valley Premium Day Trip with Meals. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Cusco?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Cusco?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
