    Pleasant and great memorable tour!

We had a great time visiting Simatai Great Wall and Gubei Water Town. We highly recommend this tour. We were really impressed with it. Our tour guide, Mr.Jason, was excellent and professional. He made our trip so splendid, and enjoyable. The tour began in the morning. Mr.Jason and the driver came to pick us up at the hotel. It took around 2 hours from Beijing to Simatai Great Wall, however the journey didn’t seem that far as we thought since Mr.Jason had entertained us with his excellent English. He told us all about the history of China. We also discussed about the people, economy, technology and etc. of China. Therefore, this made the 2 hours distance seemed so short for us. Moreover, the van was very comfortable, spacious, and super clean. It fitted our family of three people perfectly. The driver drove very smoothly. They also prepared the drinks for us in the van too. Once we arrived at Gubei Water Town, Mr.Jason actively guided us into the ancient old town. Since we went there in Autumn, late October, the weather was very nice. The trees were turning into yellow and red colors which made the water town really gorgeous. Mr.Jason was very kind offered taking a family photo for us. We were so happy that we had great family photos from this trip. He guided us around in the Gubei Water town. We had plenty of time to see Chinese craft, jade, silk and etc. He explained all the good stuffs along while we were visiting each store. We also try some dessert there, Tung Hu Lu, which made from Chinese fruit name “Sun-Jah”(Hawthorn) covered with the sticky sugar. And we had a chance to see Sun-Jah tree around the water town too. The Gubei water town was newly built with some old stone and structures from the past as Mr. Jason told us this information along the path we walked. After we had explored around the Water Town it was the time for the highlight of this tour! The time to see The Simatai Great Wall. Mr.Jason guided us to the Cable car to go up to the Great Wall. The view from the cable car was stunning. We were impressed with this panoramic view. The mountains were gigantic with the Great Wall above it. This scene were a great memory of this trip. Along the way up, Mr. Jason told us the myth and the history of the Great Wall. My son was impressed with it. Once the cable car took us up there, we needed to walk around 800 meters up to the Great Wall. The route was a bit steep. We needed to walk carefully. Personally. I think this route is not recommended for the old people with low mobility. But for younger people and healthy people it is highly recommended. It is adventurous and fun climbing up there. Once we arrived there, the view on the Great Wall was spectacular. Can’t explain how gorgeous it was. We were so glad that once in a lifetime we come to visit the Great Wall of China. It was so amazing to see and it hard to believe how the people could build such a gigantic wall like this in the past. We were really amazed. We had time to take photos there. Again Mr.Jason offered to take plenty of photos for us and he also explained deep history about the Great Wall of China. After we came down from the Great Wall, Mr.Jason took us out of the Gubei Water Town. The driver came to take us for late lunch-dinner. The restaurant was near Gubei Water town. It was like a farm to table restaurant, which we really liked it. The foods were very delicious and organic. We had chance to eat fresh vegetables directly from farms and homemade tofu. It was genuinely delicious. After that we headed back to Beijing. The driver still made a smoothly drive all the way back. We finally reached back to hotel safely. We said goodbye and thanked Mr.Jason and the driver for making this trip so much pleasant. It was one of the best memorable trips of our family. We really recommend this tour from Discover Beijing tour. They provide such a professional guide like Mr.Jason, excellent vehicle, and delicious food. Sutheera K. and family

Excellent tour guide for the wonders of the world

Most memorable part was being able to go onto the least known part of the Great Wall. We were lucky that there were no one around and our guide, Lucy , was excellent in giving us information about Gubei and the history of China. Very friendly and informative.

Gubei Water Town & Simatai Great Wall - Love it!

Gubei water town is beautiful and fascinating. Probably need more than a day to explore the place. The climb up the Simatai Great Wall was really the climax of our trip. The view from the top of the Wall tower was breathtaking. Susan is a very experienced and professional tour guide. She provided very useful information and guidance throughout the tour. My wife and I enjoyed the tour very much. Our driver King also did a very good job to provide us with a smooth, safe and comfortable ride to the destination and back to our hotel.

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Beijing.

How much does Private Tour to Gubei Water Town and Simatai Great Wall with Cable Car and Lunch cost?

    +

Prices start at $100 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Beijing usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Private Tour to Gubei Water Town and Simatai Great Wall with Cable Car and Lunch take?

    +

Plan for about 7 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Beijing is not rushed.

Is Private Tour to Gubei Water Town and Simatai Great Wall with Cable Car and Lunch worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 63 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 6 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Beijing, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Private Tour to Gubei Water Town and Simatai Great Wall with Cable Car and Lunch?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Private Tour to Gubei Water Town and Simatai Great Wall with Cable Car and Lunch suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 7-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

    +

Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Beijing can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Beijing and add a light layer if any part of the 7-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

What are the best things to do in Beijing?

    +

On Outty we rank every Beijing experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Mubus: Mutianyu Great Wall Bus Tour with Summer Palace Options, Beijing: Top 6 Highlights All Inclusive 2-Day Private Tour, Private Mutianyu Great Wall Trip With English-Speaking Driver. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Beijing?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Beijing?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
