From the port of Salerno
We booked from the port in Salerno while on a cruise. Francesco was prompt waiting for us at the end of the gangway. He was courteous, knowledgable, friendly, and provided excellent music for our drive to Pompeii. After our tour of Pompeii he drove us to eat lunch at the Casa di Amelia which has fabulous authentic Italian cuisine. Finally he was even able to accommodate our request to visit Mt Vesuvius so we could climb to the top. Without Francesco our stop in Salerno would not have been the same! I would highly recommend him to all my friends and family visiting Italy.

Paolo and Francesco are wonderful!
We booked a private tour with Paolo, who gave us a three hour tour of Pompeii and who set up lunch and wine tasting at Bosco de Medici (see my separate review). Paolo also arranged a private driver, Francesco, who drove us to and from Praiano (on the Amalfi Coast) and who accompanied us on a tour of the winery. What great choices! Paolo is an archaeologist with experience in Pompeii (among other sites) and our three hours with him were fantastic! He pointed out many details that we would have overlooked had we been on our own. He took the time to explain what the residents of Pompeii must have been going through at the time of the eruption. He also showed us several different kinds of buildings and even showed us how the streets were laid out. Paolo explained the differences in private homes based on the status of people, and showed us the public meeting areas as well. Paolo taught us a great deal about Pompeii and we were lucky to have him as our tour guide! Our driver for the day was Francesco, and he was fabulous! Francesco is very friendly and you can tell he loves his job. He picked us up on time at our hotel in Praiano and kept us entertained with his awesome music playlist. Francesco gave us a tour of the Amalfi Coast during our drives. He also accompanied us on our tour of the winery. Being a Pompeii native, he showed us several points of interest there. He even stopped at a ceramics shop in Positano on the drive back. Overall, it was wonderful spending time with Francesco! The wine tasting and lunch were at Bosco de Medici, a winery right in Pompeii. Their main vineyards are on the slopes of Mt. Vesuvius. The wines we tasted (courtesy of Anthony) were delicious, and we ordered a case to be shipped to us. Lunch was very good. After lunch, Davide took us on a tour of the winery. He was very friendly and gave us a great tour. Overall, this excursion was fantastic. We definitely recommend Askos Tours, and will use them again in the future.

How much does Private Tour: Pompeii & Wine Tasting at the Slopes of Mt Vesuvius cost?

Is Private Tour: Pompeii & Wine Tasting at the Slopes of Mt Vesuvius worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 65 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 4 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Naples, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

How far in advance should I book Private Tour: Pompeii & Wine Tasting at the Slopes of Mt Vesuvius?
+
Around 1 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Naples can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Naples and add a light layer if any part of the 7-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Private Tour: Pompeii & Wine Tasting at the Slopes of Mt Vesuvius start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Naples within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Naples?
+
On Outty we rank every Naples experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Full Day Private Amalfi Coast Tour from Sorrento/Naples/Salerno, Caserta Royal Palace & Gardens Small Group Tour with Shuttle, Naples Pizza and Tiramisu Cooking Class. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Naples?
+
Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Naples?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
