It was a totally immersive insight into the Appian Way in the history of those times, as well as a comprehensive tour of one of the many catacombs around the city. Our tour guide was thoughtful and well well-versed in her subject matter. Having a driver pick us up and return us to our hotel was a nice benefit.

See historic Rome that many tourists miss
A very comfortable, private tour done with a professional Mercedes-Benz driver. Our guide, Fiona, was able to immerse us in the underground catacomb experience, as well as the historic Appian Way and the Capuchin Church.

Another Fantastic Tour with This Company
After having such a great experience with their Pompeii and Positano day trip, we decided to book another tour with them — the Private Tour of the Appian Way and Christian Catacombs — and once again, they did not disappoint. This tour had a completely different atmosphere compared to our previous one, and that’s exactly what we loved about it. Instead of a long scenic day along the coast, this experience was more intimate and focused on Rome’s deeper history. The Appian Way was peaceful and beautiful, far from the busy city center, and walking along those ancient stones was truly special. The visit to the Christian Catacombs was the highlight. It was fascinating to explore the underground tunnels and learn about early Christian history. The guide was professional, knowledgeable, and explained everything in a clear and engaging way without overwhelming us with too much information. We also appreciated the private setup — it allowed us to move at our own pace and ask questions freely. The transportation was punctual and comfortable, just like on our previous tour with them. What stands out most about this company is their consistency. Both tours we booked were very well organized, smooth, and exactly as described. It’s reassuring to find a team you can trust for different types of experiences. We would absolutely book with them again and highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to explore a quieter, more historical side of Rome.
Response from the operator: Thank you for choosing us again! We’re so pleased you enjoyed the Appian Way and Catacombs tour and appreciated its peaceful, historical atmosphere. Your continued trust and kind words about our consistency mean a lot to us. We look forward to welcoming you again!

Andrea and Federica top notch!
Couldn't have asked for a better tour of the Catacombs and Crypts! Andrea and Federica, our private driver and personal guide picked us up from our hotel and drove us to the capuchin crypts. In here Federica explained the history and reasons of the Capuchin order and really put everything into a lovely perspective. Afterwards, we hopped on back into the van to take a 15mins drive on the outskirts of Rome where Federica guided us through the underground maze of tunnels of the Catacombs of Domitilla, as Federica said, nearly 200k people found peace in these Catacombs. Once back on the van, they toke us around the corner to physically walk on the old Appian road. The first road that made the saying all roads lead to Rome possible! The same road Julius Cesar walked on! Unbelievable it was still intact. Andrea and Federica took us back to our hotel and gave us thousands of recommendations along the way, where true Romans would go eat, shop and go out at night. All in all a great experience and definitely recommending Andrea and his services to all my friends and family back home!
Response from the operator: Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We’re thrilled you enjoyed the Catacombs, Capuchin Crypts, and the Appian Way, and it was a pleasure showing you around Rome like true locals!

Why this scores 61
The Outty Ranking is a weighted composite. Here is how this experience performed on each component.
Private Tour of the Appian Way and Christian Catacombs: questions travelers ask
Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Rome.
How much does Private Tour of the Appian Way and Christian Catacombs cost?
+
Prices start at $90 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Rome usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.
How long does Private Tour of the Appian Way and Christian Catacombs take?
+
Plan for about 3 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Rome is not rushed.
Is Private Tour of the Appian Way and Christian Catacombs worth it?
+
It holds an Outty Ranking of 61 out of 100, which we label "Solid Choice". That score blends traveler sentiment (5/5 across 6 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Rome, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.
Can I cancel or reschedule Private Tour of the Appian Way and Christian Catacombs?
+
Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.
Is Private Tour of the Appian Way and Christian Catacombs suitable for kids and families?
+
Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 3-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.
How far in advance should I book Private Tour of the Appian Way and Christian Catacombs?
+
Around 2 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Rome can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.
What should I bring or wear?
+
Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Rome and add a light layer if any part of the 3-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.
Where does Private Tour of the Appian Way and Christian Catacombs start and how do I get there?
+
The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Rome within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.
What are the best things to do in Rome?
+
Rome runs on skip-the-line access. The Colosseum underground, the Vatican before opening, and the catacombs south of the walls all require a licensed operator, and the price gap between the good ones and the rest is smaller than you would expect. We rank by guide credentials, group size and how reliably the promised access actually materialises. On Outty we rank every Rome experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Rome Pasta and Tiramisu Class: Ravioli, Fettuccine & Fine Wine 5*, Pasta Making & Wine Tasting with Dinner in Frascati from Rome, Rome: Pizza & Tiramisu or Gelato Class with Flowing Fine Wine 5*. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.
When is the best time to visit Rome?
+
April, May, September and October. August is hot and half the city is shut. Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.
How many days do you need in Rome?
+
Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.
Do I book through Outty or through the operator?
+
Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
