    1. Archeological Park of Herculaneum

Herculaneum: The Hidden Treasure of the Ancient World Herculaneum, smaller than Pompeii, is an extraordinary archaeological site preserved by the volcanic mud from Mount Vesuvius’s eruption in 79 AD. Discovered in 1709, the first excavations revealed stunning marble statues and decorations, leading to the uncovering of vibrant mosaics, frescoes, and remarkably intact buildings that showcase Roman grandeur. Explore the luxurious Villa of the Papyri with its ancient scrolls and the elegant House of the Deer, adorned with sculptures. Unlike Pompeii, Herculaneum was engulfed by a pyroclastic surge, sealing and preserving the city in exceptional detail. This unique preservation offers a rare chance to walk through Roman streets, seeing bath complexes and market spaces as they once were. Climbing Vesuvius is a unique adventure. Along the trail, volcanic artworks showcase the creativity sparked by nature’s force. At the summit, the view is spectacular: the vast crater and sweeping vistas of the Gulf of Naples, the city, and distant islands. Exhausting but worth it!!

Great experience! The day was very busy and tiring but our driver Angelo was so kind. We had an extended time between our entry of Herculaneum and Vesuvius so he took us to a couple of shops to waste some time. After Vesuvius he had arranged a lunch for us that was one of the best meals of our time in Italy. Angelo checked in with us at each destination to make sure everything was going well. He made the exhausting day wonderful! Highly recommend!

All we could have asked for in a driver.

Davide was a gracious and attentive driver, using his experience with the Naples region to deliver an excellent day’s tour to all three sites. As a bonus he instantly located a pharmacy when one of us complained of incipient blisters requiring moleskin.

Di Sarno Car Service -- Excellent!

I booked a day trip that began at 8am. Stops included Herculaneum, Vesuvius, and Pompeii. Our driver, Angelo, was a delight. He was knowledgeable and an excellent driver. He communicated how much time we would need at each stop, and our pick up times and locations clearly. He recommended a couple of additional stops and even made a reservation for our lunch (and we insisted that he join us). I have done private tours in many different countries (East Asia, Africa, North America, etc) -- and this was one of the best. Well worth it for the convenience and the experience.

Cesar & DiSarno gave us an Easter Day to remember!!

We came in on the high-speed train from Rome on Easter weekend with a group of seven, including three 12-year-old boys, and Cesar was waiting for us with exactly the right energy. Happy, funny, flexible, never once making us feel like we were on a schedule we couldn’t adjust. When we wanted to shift things around, he just rolled with it. We did Vesuvius first — the crater hike was a great change of pace from our usual Italy activities. With kids it was about an hour up and back, totally manageable, and the view from the top was genuinely impressive. Our boys loved seeing the actual crater even if it was, as one of them noted, “just dirt and some steam vents.” Still cool. From there, Pompeii with a guide Cesar connected us with, she was excellent. Keeping the attention of three 12-year-olds isn’t always easy but she held it together well and the site itself is just fascinating. We’re all really glad we went. We asked to keep lunch to an hour so we could maximize time there, and Cesar adjusted appropriately without complaint. It also didn’t hurt that he’s a dad to a son around the same age as ours. That connection came through. Spending Easter with a group of strangers and bringing that much warmth to it says something. Planning and coordination with DiSarno ahead of time was smooth, always responsive, always prompt. The van fit seven of us comfortably; we had originally planned for eight and I’m honestly glad it ended up being seven, as I’m not sure where the eighth person would’ve gone. Highly recommend for a Naples day trip, especially with kids.

Private Tour of Pompeii, Herculaneum and Vesuvius from Naples: questions travelers ask

Practical detail on this experience, plus the wider planning questions for Naples.

How much does Private Tour of Pompeii, Herculaneum and Vesuvius from Naples cost?

    +

Prices start at $430 per person. The final price depends on the date, the time slot and the number of travelers, and peak weekends in Naples usually price higher than midweek mornings. Live pricing and remaining availability are confirmed on the booking screen before you pay.

How long does Private Tour of Pompeii, Herculaneum and Vesuvius from Naples take?

    +

Plan for about 8 hours from start to finish, not counting travel to the meeting point. Most travelers leave another 30 minutes on either side so the rest of the day in Naples is not rushed.

Is Private Tour of Pompeii, Herculaneum and Vesuvius from Naples worth it?

    +

It holds an Outty Ranking of 73 out of 100, which we label "Strongly Recommended". That score blends traveler sentiment (4.9/5 across 91 reviews), the depth of that review evidence, recent booking momentum, value for money against comparable last minute in Naples, and how flexible the cancellation terms are.

Can I cancel or reschedule Private Tour of Pompeii, Herculaneum and Vesuvius from Naples?

    +

Yes. Cancel free up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Inside that window the booking is non-refundable, and no-shows are not refunded.

Is Private Tour of Pompeii, Herculaneum and Vesuvius from Naples suitable for kids and families?

    +

Yes, all ages are welcome. Families should still weigh the 8-hour running time, and strollers are easier on the earlier, quieter departures.

How far in advance should I book Private Tour of Pompeii, Herculaneum and Vesuvius from Naples?

    +

Around 32 people booked this in the last 30 days, so popular slots go early. Two to three weeks ahead is comfortable in shoulder season, while summer weekends and holidays in Naples can sell out a month out. Same-day spots do open up when other travelers cancel, so it is worth checking if you are already in town.

What should I bring or wear?

    +

Bring photo ID, your booking confirmation on your phone, a refillable water bottle and comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather in Naples and add a light layer if any part of the 8-hour experience runs outdoors or after sunset.

Where does Private Tour of Pompeii, Herculaneum and Vesuvius from Naples start and how do I get there?

    +

The exact meeting point and directions are on your voucher once you book, and they sit in central Naples within reach of public transport. Arrive 15 minutes early: late arrivals are treated as no-shows by most operators.

What are the best things to do in Naples?

    +

On Outty we rank every Naples experience on the same 0 to 100 scale, and alongside this one the highest scorers right now include Full Day Private Amalfi Coast Tour from Sorrento/Naples/Salerno, Caserta Royal Palace & Gardens Small Group Tour with Shuttle, Naples Pizza and Tiramisu Cooking Class. The city page groups everything into most popular, highest reviewed, last minute and family-friendly so you can build a day around what actually delivers.

When is the best time to visit Naples?

    +

Booking patterns follow the same curve: prices and queues climb in peak weeks, while shoulder season gives you better availability on the top-ranked experiences and more room to change plans.

How many days do you need in Naples?

    +

Three full days covers the headline sights without sprinting. A workable rhythm is one anchor experience each morning, such as this one, an unhurried afternoon in a single neighborhood, then a food or nightlife booking in the evening. Five days lets you add a day trip outside the city.

Do I book through Outty or through the operator?

    +

Outty ranks and explains the experiences, then hands you to Viator to complete the booking with the operator directly. The price is the same as booking on Viator yourself, and Outty earns an affiliate commission on the referral, which is how the rankings stay free to read.
